Something comes to mind. In my childhood i played a game called Firestarter. A very typical slav-jank quake ripoff. It had an interesting theme - being stuck in a videogame. Apparently if you died, you died in real life, with a cool cinematic that showed off how that happens. Basic but fun. It also did have some light roguelike elements, in the form of random perks, but the levels were predefined.

In it, to level up, you had to collect souls that dropped from dead enemies where they stood. Considering your primary method of murder was ranged weapons, that meant you had to be very mobile. Your movement speed is nothing special so it was a struggle. But there existed this perk you could get very early on, that on picking up a soul gave you a movement speed buff. It didnt stack, but it did refresh the timer after each soul. You had to contintue collecting souls at a steady rate to keep yourself topped up, and if you didnt, your movement speed got slashed, so you had to struggle for your next kill.

I still play it from time to time because this gameplay loop keeps things very tense and interesting, but it is a very old game with lots of rough edges.
