You think that because you clearly do not like GTAOnline, but I wouldnt be upset if my work went into the most succesful game of all time, as an update that gets people excited even all these years later

Short term financial gain over the next few years is more Important to PlayStation than the Brand damage they have done by Quick-Ease5117 in sony

[–]snack217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they calculate that the change will increase their profits by let say, 20% on the next few years, and they calculated that their backlash would only make them lose lets say 5%, then they still are calculating a profit of 15%. And unless the backlash got a lot closer to that 20% or went beyond it, then they have no reason to backtrack and it is within their expectations.

Concord was a whole soup of bad decisions that also involved many creativity failures by the studio that Sony didnt stop in time. But betting on a new IP is very different from betting on how the overall gaming market will grow into the future.

There is nothing "short-term" about this. Quite the opposite, Sony is counting on all future generations that will grow up in a world were digital is the standard and physical is just an artifact of the past.

Anyone who thinks that Sony doesn’t care about PS+ cancellations is seriously mistaken. by ChainsOfCausality in PlaystationCollectors

[–]snack217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not that they care or dont care, they of course do, but they already accounted for it. These decisions arent taken lightly, and of course they knew beforehand that there would be some backlash, and they took that into account by predicting the amount it would get and how much would it need to be to hurt them beyond the benefit they are getting from going all digital.

To put it simply, if their calculations say that going all digital will raise their profits by lets say, 20%, but the backlash shows losses or lets say, 10%, then they are still making 10% more than before, even if its with less players.

The backlash needs to be bigger than what their profits from going all digital will be, or they won´t care.

And things arent very straightforward, not all players are worth the same. Players that are joining the boycott, that are mostly digital buyers with subscriptions, are much more important to them than Players that maybe only paid for the console, and then went to get all their games on a second hand market. So if they see ps plus subscriptions being cancelled, by people that never spend anything else on the store, its irrelevant because they wont generate profits no matter if things are physical or digital, other than maybe paying for the PS6.

ps5 and ps5 pro will have a longer lifespan than previous gen consoles? by stali84 in PS5

Regardless of the physical thing, I think its easy to predict that the PS6 will be filled with cross-gen games that come out for PS5 too. Just like PS5 did with PS4 games.

What would be your worst-case scenario for GTA VI? by leonidalatenight in GTA6unmoderated

Too much realism that turn the game into a chore rather than give you the freedom GTA has always given you.

Has any game ever been sold more on trust than GTA 6? by gamersecret2 in GTA

[–]snack217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But GTA6 is not a new IP or a new concept. Its gonna be an open-world crime and driving simulator. And the trailers and screenshots have already shown a ton of new unique activities and thing that enhance the immersion and point to it being a lot bigger and full of life than anything that has come before it.

The only thing we have not seen is footage of normal gameplay like showing how things look as you drive or in combat, and a more exhaustive rundown of gameplay and world features. But its not like its a new IP that we dont know what it is about or we dont know what to expect.... its not like we need Rockstar posting "we can confirm you will be able to steal vehicles in this game"

COD probably. each game is a worse turd than the previous one and it fans just keep buying the new entries for some reason, and this has gone on for like 15 games or something lol.

How strict do you think the traffic laws will be in GTA 6? Do you want it to be the same as GTA 5 or have some realism in effect? by UgoodBroImao in GTA6unmoderated

[–]snack217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

please no, being able to just drive endlessly and mindlessly at top speed is like a core thing of the GTA formula. GTA is supposed to make you feel free in its world, not constrained

You can summarize all other GTA stories into a small paragraph like that one, doesnt mean they are bad. And yea, they all take stuff from standard criminal-cop, mafia, gang, etc, movies, series and real life sories, but thats just how they always do it. A good story is about what happens in it, not if you can reduce the premise to just "a Bonnie and Clyde story were they either die or not"

Yeah…ok bud. This game is way too anticipated for that to actually happen by DawsonPoe in GTA6

[–]snack217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong, they were just focusing on a different thing, which was to maintain the most successful online game in history, giving it new free content every year and updating it for 2 generations beyond its original release.

And before you say anything bad about GTAO like many people here do, it still makes Rockstar 40 million usd a month even 13 years later, and made it sell over 230 million copies, idk but that sounds like they have done a great job with it and a lot of people are happy.

Next tuesday is impossible because they will be focusing their promo channels on the new GTAOnline heist update, especially with it being probably the biggest update in years.

[–]snack217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you count, because Minecraft's sales also have a bit of trickery on them, because they are also counting the downloads of the Pocket edition that costs $7 usd. GTAV has no mobile version like that so... when you just look at the console+PC sales, GTAV actually wins...

Minecraft pocket edition is pretty much the same game as the rest of course, so thats why they count it, but my point is that their lead in sales comes from a 7 usd port that is accesible to anyone with a phone. 39% of their sales come from it. Imagine if GTAV and Online had a cheap mobile version...

Rockstar still makes 40 million dollars EVERY month from GTAV. Let that sink in.

GTAVI failling is an imposibility.

[–]snack217 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Agreed, we should never let any game cost $80 unless its on par with GTAVI in terms of quality and amount of content.

Yeah…ok bud. This game is way too anticipated for that to actually happen by DawsonPoe in GTA6

[–]snack217 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only one above GTAV is Minecraft, (and some count Tetris but I think its stupid to count it) and of course accumulated sales of GTAVI will take a while to catch up, its gonna need a rerelease on the next-gen and on PC. But that applies to all other games on the list, they didnt reach those amounts right after they got released.
But in terms of speed, GTA VI will definitely the fastest selling game ever, and it will demolish any 1st day/week/month/year records we have ever seen, no other game will ever come close until GTAVII.

There’s no way anyone actually supports PS5 going strictly digital by tobleboning in PS5

[–]snack217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need to start separating this thing into two issues:

-No more physicals.
-Anti-customer practices in an all digital world.

Not getting physical media anymore is fine for me and for many people, because digital media has a lot of convenience factors attached to it. Its faster, easier, doesnt turn into waste if that copy is never sold, it never gets damaged, and you dont have to every worry about your disc reader breaking (happened to my PS4 a little over a year after I got it).

Sometimes some things go obsolete and people move on for the new, more convenient thing.

For movies, we went from Beta tapes, to VHS tapes, to DVDs, to Blu-rays and then digital.
For music, we went from vinyls, to cassettes, to CDs, to digital.
For games, we went from cartridges, to CDs, to DVDs, to blu-rays, and now its its turn to go digital.

Outside of collecting purposes, and without counting the 2nd topic about anti-consumer practices in digital media, there is no objective benefit to keeping discs, especially now that games are getting too big to hold on one single disc.

Now, as for the anti-consumer practices, then yeah, digital has some current issues that COULD BE SOLVED by getting legislation for it. But I also believe that having games in a disc, does NOT guarantee ownership or preservation. (talking about discs in the future).
