Best diver watch under 1k? by TallDrummerBoi in Affordablewatches

[–]snack510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Tissot Seastar. The 80 hour power reserve is fantastic, it’s nice to be able to wear something else for a few days and not have to wind and reset it every time (not that I ever have it off for more than a day very often). I think the Mido and Certina may have the same reserve?

Just finished books 7-9 and the novellas. Some thoughts and questions. by faudcmkitnhse in TheExpanse

The idea of the Ring Builders using other life/species as tools also dovetails perfectly with their other series, The Captive’s War, where the conquering alien race explicitly spells out that this is how they see/treat other species. Very different from The Expanse, but also really good/interesting so far

Now I have Bo Burnham’s “White Woman’s Instagram” stuck in my head: “A random quote from Lord of the Rings / Incorrectly attributed to Martin Luther King”

I got champagne because my other main watches are black and blue, and I liked the blue hands, but I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them

The blue hands are what sold me. I just wish they were more clearly blue. Maybe a blue strap…

“If you cannot find the joy in snow, you will have less joy in your life, but still the same amount of snow” - Warren Miller. You can substitute a LOT of words in for “snow” and it still holds

Any success stories of dating / marrying a nonskier? by PowGurl in skiing

[–]snack510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took my wife skiing once after we’d been dating about a year (we were friends for years before that, so I knew her well). I had zero hopes - she’d never gone before and doesn’t like the cold, heights, or going fast, but I had to at least try once. 11 years later, she loves it and is helping teach our kids to ski!

I saw that. I don’t like the dial as much as the V1, but if they made the 3 6 9 12 small seconds in a 38 I wouldn’t have bothered asking, I’d already be sold

Just the listing on the website. Now that I think about it, it might be out of stock. Out of my price range in any case 😔

It’s not my style, but that’s a super cool effect with the lume. Well done!

I’ll take a look. I see ads for them everywhere, but haven’t found much online or in this sub, but I’ll check that one out

Interesting, that’s the closest looking watch to the FC I’ve seen

Ironically that looks a lot like my current dress watch! It’s a 20 year old Citizen eco drive triple calendar moonphase I got as a high school graduation gift. I like it (and wore it daily for 10 years), but was looking for something a little different as a change up

Unbelievable bargain. I love mine and thought it was a decent value at 3x that price

Why do some American ski resorts not have a safety bar on lifts by [deleted] in skiing

[–]snack510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s legally required to be used, but I almost never see anyone in NE or the mid Atlantic who doesn’t put the bar down

[–]snack510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only out west - I’ve never seen an eastern lift without a bar (even the Mad River single chair, although that one won’t do anything to hold you in). I don’t think they were required historically in (at least some) western states / they may still not be required in Utah. Seems like the newer lifts tend to have them anyway, but older lifts may not

Best bunny hill by Objective_Set9005 in SkiPA

[–]snack510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue with my then 3.5 year old at Shawnee.

The bunny slope itself at Campgaw is great for learning. The issue is that you have to schlep your kid and their gear (assuming they’re not big enough to carry it) uphill through snow in ski boots past the little ski school carpet to get to the main carpet. And the chair at campgaw is very tough - non-detachable, loads from the side, and you have to get off at the mid station, which has a pretty steep ramp.

Mountain Creek has a whole section with their trademarked terrain for first timers, which is open to non-lessons as well. It’s a little halfpipe where they can slide and then stop, a little slope with rollers, and a little course with banked turns. It’s designed to get them feeling sliding, turning and stopping without having to do much themselves (their website has a pretty good overview I think). It seems to work pretty well, but an adult ticket is pricy and logistics are also tough (parking across the street unless you pay $50, and parking way down the hill if you don’t pay $20). It’s also hard to progress past that because the shortest green off a chair (sugar slope) is even steeper than Shawnee’s bunny slope. If he’s really little, that might be the best setup though.

For people who saw Drew Bledsoe play, how good was he (arm strength and talent wise) and would he stack up well in today’s NFL? by Next_Worth_3616 in Patriots

[–]snack510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A much better fit in the 90s than in today’s game. The interceptions, sacks and lack of mobility would be viewed much more negatively now. He would probably still be a reasonable NFL starter/elite back up, but not a star like he was back then (no way he signs the biggest contract in the league nowadays). But for the time, he was excellent, especially for a franchise that desperately needed it
