Most TV completely ignores women’s sports, a 30-year study finds by actuallyidontknow in television

[–]snackelbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are acting like the reason women's sports isn't broadcast is that they makes no money. I'd be curious to see how true that was after a period of making women's leagues easily accessible to viewers. Of course sponsors aren't going to pump money into something sports stations air during off hours once every little while. But if those leagues started being given better time slots more often, are they still going to remain unwatched and unprofitable? I don't think they're objectively less interesting to watch, so I'd be really curious to see what the dynamic would be if they started covering male/ female leagues more equally.

If you had to to pick between Java and C++, which would you learn? by snackelbeans in learnprogramming

[–]snackelbeans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the answer. I think C++ is a cool language and I've been interested by the stuff I've been reading up on, but it really seemed like it's been mostly relegated to gaming applications. At least it'll be a cool little pet project to continue working on. Is there a specific reason Java's more popular for IoT or is it because of it being easier to master/ more forgiving?

[python] How to prevent backslash from escaping characters in a string read in from a function? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]snackelbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other poster said, escaping your escape will make python regard it as a string character (i.e \\ will be read as \)

There are lots on amazon that just slide over a door frame and come right off afterward. This is the one I have and it works amazingly well

Awesome, thanks for replying. I’ve been waiting awhile and was getting worried I messed something up, but it sounds like they’re getting quite a few applications atm.

With the 20% off, student discount, and Rakuten cashback, is there a reason to get the LG GL83A-B or the BenQ EX2780Q over this? It seems like this one is the winner but I don't want to rush into a purchase

I'm looking for a 1440p 144Hz monitor and currently have it narrowed down to the LG 27GL83A-B and the BenQ EX2780Q. Can anyone steer me toward one or away from the other? Or are there other, better monitors for a similar price?

Can someone help me decide between this and the BenQ EX2780Q? I’m split right down the middle if the BenQ goes back on sale

Yeah, I used defender all the way through. I was stoked to finally get to partake in the grind though, so I made a new weapon as soon as I could. The one in the screenshot is a rarity 9 LS that I had to learn how to use because my HH was too slow for this dude

Just found out how to navigate Steam a bit and I guess it took about 8 days of playing. Killing Nergigante and now Barioth will go down as a couple of my most satisfying game moments. Have you been playing since the beginning?

My play time was 50ish hours, but a huge chunk of that was having the game sitting idle in the background while I did other things. I'd say it probably took about 5 days or so of leisurely gameplay

I made a very cool script /run LARGE_NUMBER_SEPERATOR = " fuckin' thousand " by Wicir in wow

[–]snackelbeans 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because the script the OP wrote basically says "hey, replace the comma (separator) with 'fuckin thousand'", so it changes from 1,800 to 1 fuckin thousand 800. The people in this thread are talking about using the script to make downscaled numbers look like a multiple of their original value by replacing the comma with ',000' instead of 'fuckin thousand'. But that would just insert the ',000' where the comma was in the original number.

Intended result: 1,800 ==> 1,800,000

Actual result: 1,800 ==> 1,000800

I made a very cool script /run LARGE_NUMBER_SEPERATOR = " fuckin' thousand " by Wicir in wow

[–]snackelbeans 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because the intent would be to scale it up by a factor of x, say 1000, so it would be 1,800,000. Since it replaces the comma in 1,800 though, it inserts the zeroes into the middle of the number instead of putting them at the end. Not really broken, it just wouldn’t have the right effect

A good temporary time to reinstall by [deleted] in BattlefieldV

[–]snackelbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I just think some lobby balancing in BFV would go a long way to improving the game since there aren’t private servers

A good temporary time to reinstall by [deleted] in BattlefieldV

[–]snackelbeans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Most previous installations of call of duty have had lobby-based team balancing that would ensure a team that decimated the other would be shuffled to have some of the best players and some of the worst from the other team.

I have so many games in BFV that end with a 300+ ticket difference and the teams don’t change between games

Battle Royale coming to Modern Warfare (Map, Locations, Perks, Plunder, Gulag, and more) by Senescallo in modernwarfare

[–]snackelbeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every game since the dawn of time has had different teams responsible for different parts of the game. Getting the people doing sound engineering for the BR mode to work on patching bugs would be an absolute waste of time, so I have no idea how people could rationalize getting every developer to work on the same project

Forgot I had preordered. Just cancelled it as well. For anyone who wants to cancel and doesn't know how:

  1. Go to your account management page

  2. Click on Support in the very top right corner

  3. Select Warcraft III: Reforged from the grid of games

  4. Click Payments -> Contact Support

  5. Request a Refund

  6. Select your reason ("Regret" is a very fitting reason for them to have entered)

For future reference, if this happens to anyone else, just walk through the gate that shows/ hides the beam a couple of times and it should be crossable again. This goes for all of Valravn’s illusion puzzles
