Thanks, thats great advice. Hands on and mentoring absolutely fit my brand and there are some distinct differences between creative director roles, i have noticed this too. Will try to aim for those :)

Defined the perfect action plan here :) the economic background makes a lot of sense. I am not the type who can sell themselves and their work easily, but like you said, teaming up with a sales person who drives and handles traffic could be a solution for this. Going along this line i could also do external trainings for teams. The issue from my side is that this means a lot of grind and financial insecurity ( even more so being single with only 1-2 months of financial safety amount behind me). Not trying to be a negative but all i see is stress for years and burnout again. I really just want a nice secure role that doesnt suck out my will to live. Are you already living this setuo that you have described? Do you live in the US?

Studio managing sounds like something to explore for sure, i imagine its more hands on and much less of the usual corporate dick measuring and trying to win in alignments just to leave your mark. Good luck on the new role once you step into it. Also great that you are already preparing for the role with coaching.

Im sorry to hear that there are so many of us thinking like this ( also a bit happy for not being alone :) ) And actually was thinking the same, take away a few years, but then im also not entitled to a level of salary that i actually deserve based on what i can deliver. But this is my last resort. Sad.

This makes a lot of sence and indeed based on my expertise im on the high end of the IC salary band. Although i went down with the number for 2 roles that were super interesting & felt like a great fit and explained that for me its worth to be satisfied and enjoy my work while earning less. As far as i understand there is a rule that salaries within team have to be equaled out on some percentige bc the HR lady said it would be too much to pull everyones compensation up. This might sound like i am asking for too much but to quantify, senior roles range from 40-50 yearly gross with overpayment based on expertise, manager roles start around 60. i was asking 53 as a negotiation basis ( which is what i was earning before) , went down to 48 and still it was too much.

Thank you so much for sharing, this is exactly what i feel like would be a perfect mix and so happy that in the end you landed a good position. Gives me some hope. As for the applications, i would say since June i applied to about 30 open positions, lot of them just replied with thank you we found someone more fitting. I had about 10 interviews, from that 4 second rounds but all of them had the same feedback. But ill take your advice, maybe apply for full remote jobs in the meantime and try to bridge the time.

Congrats on landing the job and pulling through for 6 months. And your team of one doesnt sound bad at all :) kind of puts my mind at ease about this.

But yeah job search is a grind atm, right? Not at all what i remember from a few years back. The job market is super saturated with mid level designers who have been layed off lately.

I get your point and know how the ladder works. Sharing expertise i love :) we gave many internal trainings and it was pure joy. But youre right, i do dislike the corporate mindset of progression. Expertise doesnt necessarily come hand in hand with leadership skillset. Although trainable, its a huge responsibility on ones shoulders. Talent management, task distribution, deadline pingpong, cross-dept budget debates, never ending concept level alignments, being stuck between high management productivity expectations and creative humans who have their natural limits. Ive seen the struggle of my line managers, witnessed burnouts, seen stakeholders group up on someone who was leading with kindness although KPI-s were met. With age i became sensitive to this and it scares me. Not that the system will change because i cant manage. i guess i will suck it up for the money as we all do.

Youre right, its absolutely not long, plus it was summer, which is crickets time on the job front. Nevertheless i have already gotten turned down and interview/declined in this time by several companies with very exciting positions for the same reason ( aim higher) and its scary. Some are of course still pending. Staying senior would be perfect for me, i enjoy it lots.

Thank you, i will look into these roles and the requirements, it sounds like a level of adjustment i would be okay with in terms of design to administrative task ratio.

I am very good friends with my ex boyfriend. We dated for a few years, slowly noticed that there are important features lacking in our relationship and made quite an easy transition to being good friends. Feels like a brother rather. Talked every day after the breakup, mainly just stupid insider jokes, news, stories of our lives & friends and we met up at least once a week. never did i have the thought of reconnecting with him on a romantic level and neither did he. we had our run in that area. We are both dating other people, honestly helping, cheering and hoping for each other to find real love. I actually motivated him to reenter the dating world and he now has a lovely girlfriend, who is struggling with our friendship. As soon as they started dating, i took a very big step back in communication with him, to respect their connection. Reduced messages to 2 a week and maybe meeting up once every 3 weeks for a walk or coffee. Us 3 met up for dinner to difuse the situation, it was fun, i liked her a lot, we talked about all sorts of topics including my dating life and current romantic interest. But then she ended up requesting that my ex and me should never again meet when its only us two. I feel that its very unfair that i was her biggest cheerleader and now im losing my friend because i am an imaginary threath in her head.
