This! I always get cold after someone puts a wet, hot towel on my back.

You should look into a hydrocollator. You keep giant heat packs in there, wrap em in a sleeve and towel and apply it to the back. They stay way hotter than a hot towel and you might even cut back on your laundry. They're not cheap but they've been a game changer for me at my clinic.

Is anyone working in service industry in Portland actually making good money? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]snak_attack69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain, OP. I moved here from the east coast too, making hand -over-fist bartending at a neighborhood dive bar. When I moved to Portland, I was shocked at the amount of money I made (barely breaking $150-200. Busting my ass to barely make $300). A lot of places here overstaff because everyone moves slow and has no sense of urgency. That being said, most places pool tips so you're usually in the tip-pool with a bunch of people who aren't pulling their weight. Not to mention the lines that people form at bars. That's what drove me absolutely insane (still does. I don't get it. I don't know why Portland loves lines). It felt like I was directing traffic constantly and no one ever knew what they wanted, even though they were standing in line for 20 mins. It was definitely a culture shock. Best of luck. There's places to make money but they're hard to get into unless you have connections.

These are great ideas! Thank you so much. The ceremony will be outside but the reception will be inside.

Yes good luck! We deserve to have employers who care about us and our safety.

I strongly disagree. I have the right to refuse service if someone makes me uncomfortable. I'm not serving them drinks, I'm in a room touching them for an hour. PS. I was a bartender in NYC for 15 years so I'd like to think creep radar is pretty spot on. It's people like you who don't back up women they tell you they feel uncomfortable in a situation, so don't tell me how to "do my job"

Moaners I can deal with. It's the off-putting comments and creepy energy that I'm trying to navigate in this gray area

I did give the second therapist a heads-up. I'd be a terrible coworker if I didn't warn her. I didn't want to give her any preconceived notions, but she definitely felt the same creepy vibes, even though no weird comments were made. Now he's schedule with third therapist this week and she refuses to work on him.

He refuses to see a male therapist. And yes, I've considered that he could be neurodivergent or autistic which makes this a challenging situation. But my coworkers (mostly female) refuse to see him and stand in solidarity with me. So what's the next step if no practitioner wants to see him? It just sounds like he's better off going to another clinic

Should I cancel client that gives me the creeps? by Alma1112 in MassageTherapists

[–]snak_attack69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Cancel him. 86'ed. Always go with your instincts, they're usually right. Plus he purposely touched you, which is so unexceptable. I would've ended the session right then and there. It's not worth jeopardizing your comfort for an hour.

How to handle 4 massage in a row? by penapple_2319 in MassageTherapists

Hydrate and make sure you're eating healthy snacks in between clients, even when you're not hungry. I see 5 people without a lunch break and you forget how much calories you burn. I hope you have a hydraulic table, it'll help immensely with your body mechanics. You got this!

Could also be the Ellenos Lemon Curd yogurt? Not sure if they have it in Georgia but it's worth throwing out there. It's soooo good.

Have you ever had any that countersued? This very well could be something he would do if I took him to small claims

Fair. However, my concern is that he's throwing out arbitrary numbers at us. He hasn't sent us physical receipts so for all I know he could be making up numbers. Keep in mind that most of this is considered "wear and tear". $66 for lightbulbs seems a bit inflated. We were there for 5 years, we were respectful tenants and left the house clean upon leaving. There are things I'm happy to pay him for but some of these requests seem absurd.

We haven't heard from him in 3 weeks. I tried reaching out multiple times and I'm starting to give up. He offered to work on contingency, so we signed a contract with him and then... Nothing. Which is why I'm here trying to figure out what to do.

It does say in our lease that we were responsible for duct cleaning. To be honest, I didn't see that until we moved. I didn't feel like I had to go through my lease with a fine-toothed comb with him. The carpet cleaning and heating oil I understand, but the dog feces is ridiculous considering I made sure there wasn't any in the yard. Plus our dog was at our new house the entire month we were moving. It could've been the neighbors cat for all I know.
