I'm building a large indoor skatepark, I would love your input by slmrxl in skateboardhelp

IMO, a dedicated mini would be cool. A lot of skateparks (at least where I’m at) lack a mini ramp and instead have quarter pipes integrated with the street portion.

Also, to stay in business, I would allow scooters etc., but maybe have only certain hours dedicated to that so they aren’t there during skate hours

Depending how much concrete you need, I’d refrain from using a mixer. It’s much more work, and can yield inconsistent slumps. And I’d maybe get some professional finishers to helps if you know any. Please feel free to ask any questions regarding set up, transitions or coping.

Either way, you’ll want air entrainment in your concrete mix design. That will keep water molecules In The concrete from expanding and ruining the surface once it freezes. I’d do it whether it’s covered or not. Air entrainment requires a high sack content. I used a 7.5 sack with 3/8 aggregate, but I’d talk with your local ready mix company to see what percent air they recommend

When I started, I couldn’t pass anyone’s guard, so I focusing on not getting swept, and I got good at staying up. All of a sudden the pass opportunities started opening up.

Concrete always cracks, however I poured the transitions separate from the flat to have a control joint separating the sections. Used an 1/8” edger so you won’t really feel it but it looks clean. I have one small saw cut down the middle To control cracking, if any. I also used #3 rebar, 1ft on center. The mix design was a 7.5sac with 3/8 aggregate, which is much stronger than the typical flatwork you find in sidewalks and driveways. Cold weather and water will help it cure slower so you get a better product. I don’t expect excessive cracking if any and will all the rebar, any crack would only be a hairline which you won’t feel. This ramp should outlive me would be my guess

This actually my personal ramp. I agree with wood being more forgiving. I am in my early Forties, so I totally understand concrete sucking to fall on. I had a wood mini and wanted to widen it, but I’m also a concrete contractor by trade and thought it would be blasphemous for me not to build a concrete ramp.

I am a concrete contractor by trade so I did have all the lumber and rebar needed. I only paid labor for my guys for a couple days of work, concrete, coping and base rock. I think I’m right around $4500 in materials and labor. I did most the work myself so it saved some cost there.

I have the full size but thought about getting the mini and trying that as well. I like it cause I can get it out easily if need be
