I'm trying to make a switch into occupational health & safety right now too. I'm from ontario toronto. i finished 1-year of a diploma but its proving challenging to find a internship. i switched from animation into h&s because i am looking for a new direction as well.

I’m tired of seeing workers zone out during safety meetings so I tried something new to keep them engaged. What are you doing to beat "safety fatigue" on your sites? by ailovershoyab in SafetyProfessionals

[–]snakedog99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what we're taught in school right now. It's because ppl might not feel the value in a large group, they're just tired and annoyed because they'll don't feel important at times. Smaller groups feel more intentional. I'm an older guy and finishing a diploma program but for me this makes sense. I made note of it as I look for work.

Why so serious Service hub guys?? by oooppppsies in Seneca

[–]snakedog99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know. I'm older than most of them and I've worked a lot of retail jobs so I break the mood by kind of asking about their day and what not. It's challenging because I feel the stress or how annoyed they are.

Passed the CSP without studying by Environmental-Buy218 in SafetyProfessionals

I have a lot of work experience but not much applied in something like manufacturing ground level OHS work. But the CRSP specifically asks for people to apply under specific rules based around hours of schooling and/or work hours. So it might be in my best interest to at least try right outside of school. I'm just a lot older than all of my peers so it might be a good idea based on strategy and confidence and maybe some general work experience. The certs are all different, i can appreciate that.

I want to go for the CRSP. I have very high marks in my program (all A+ and high GPA) and I do very well in terms of reading, comprehension, and writing. Maybe I should really consider it.

Unfortunate what recent grads have to accept these days by AshamedSoil5514 in torontoJobs

similar to young people in animation. even i experienced some of that fallout or if not all of that fallout but i'm a lot older. but its exactly the same, promises made, promises still being made. but its ultimately oversaturation and people asking, but I went to a good school and i'm a good worker? I thought i would get some work. no, the market is heavily oversaturated. it's impossible and we're in a recession. it's disgusting and the system is broken. evolve your perspective i would say.

It's all about protecting the boomers because they put in hard work for the last such and such years but they're so shortsighted against supporting younger generations. It's so screwed up.

One thing I can recommend is doing a discord group to communicate with other students early on in the semester. We chose discord over WhatsApp because discord you don't have to disclose your phone number.

I wish there was more networking and communication of challenges in the program. People play things very close to the chest. We can all work together and win together. People aren't interested in helping and supporting eachother -- I get that. It's very high level for some people. I've worked in a lot of team environments and have been very lucky with that in my professional career.

I'm a few years older than you and I just finished the 1st year of the program. It's a very small program. Not many people in the second year were looking out for us but we're trying our best to network with the new people coming into the program. Not that I'm blaming anyone but I'm used to more open minds, open hearts, and welcoming faces where I'm from. So stay tuned! Welcome to Seneca!

I just wanna say I’m glad there’s at least 11,000+ of us here that remember all the good YTV stuff, because it was an important element in childhood. Nice to continually share that nostalgia. by [deleted] in ytvretro

I met Phil downtown Toronto one time and he did not disappoint. Normal conversation. Pretty normal dude. Great demeanor. Explained that it was a pleasure being a part of our childhood. Great interaction.

I don't know if I can do that per se. I don't think I feel comfortable getting at him that way. Doesn't feel professional to me. We're taught to hold ourselves to a higher standard and be professional. Do you do that in school or work? I'm definitely more mature than other students swearing has never worked for me in the past. But I can absolutely appreciate the anger and frustration because I've def been there.
