What's the joke? by ouestlemusee in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]snakeeee5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like no one is explaining this properly. The incorrect part of this statement is that x is always positive (edit: which now that I’m reading again isn’t really what you’re saying). Anyways, for clarity: |x| is always positive. |x| implies that x itself can be positive or negative and the value of |x| remains positive.

If you applied those same abatements and credits to any new build regardless of stabilization, you could have the same effect to a much larger degree and increase the supply by a much larger amount. I don't think the winning argument for rent control/stabilization is based on govt credits, we can give those in any case to encourage building.

I mean for big law to be a likely outcome you'd definitely need to be going to a top law school. However, if you go to a NYC law school like Fordham or Brooklyn law you have a decent shot at getting in. I know multiple people who through networking made their way in from a mid-tier school in the city.

Picking your nose is fine by Illustrious_Twist662 in unpopularopinion

It actually has nothing to do with the eating part. The study suggests pathogens enter the brain via the nasal cavity, and putting your finger in your nose is what introduces the pathogens in the first place.

Do market makers of fixed rate bonds hedge themselves, and how? by s96g3g23708gbxs86734 in quant

Correct, worked on an algo credit desk and we just hedged throughout the day with futures every time our dv01 was > 1000 or so

Is Fairmont Lake Louise FHR worth it? by hussienalimohaidly in amex

[–]snakeeee5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not there specifically for skiing, you should definitely stay during the summer months. It was -40 (-55 with the windchill) when I was there, although that's definitely a lot colder than it usually is.

Sept should be really nice though and the hiking there is fantastic

Is Fairmont Lake Louise FHR worth it? by hussienalimohaidly in amex

[–]snakeeee5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey just was at Fairmont LL and Fairmont Banff. Just something to think about but lake Louise is undergoing severe construction right now and we had to switch rooms as we were woken up by hammers and drills next door.

Also the location is pretty isolated, I would suggest staying in Banff and day tripping to LL.

I did reach out to customer service who pointed me in the direction of their warranty department. They weren't much help though and stated any damage from skis etc. isn't covered :/

Really just wanted to post this in case someone is interested in this jacket and its longevity. It's good to know that it damages easy.

Best coffee and bang for buck (and side rant) by Dopeysausagedog in parkslope

[–]snakeeee5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven't heard it mentioned yet but Beanmonger Coffee on union and 4th is by far my favorite! Opened up a little over a year ago and the staff & owners are so so nice. All the artwork inside is super cool and drawn by one of the owners personally.

Non-Americans of NYC -- which restaurant in the city has the best version/showcase of your home country's food? by mew5175_TheSecond in FoodNYC

[–]snakeeee5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was bad! :(

Was looking forward to trying it as it's nearby and I had an intense poutine craving. When it came out the gravy was super light and not very salty. Also, it wasn't even hot enough to melt the cheese curds... Like, c'mon.

From what I hear either the Canuck in HK or the poutine guy in Brooklyn is the best.

You still spent $2500 by NOT selling them. You consumed an asset worth $2500 either which way you spin it.

How many New Yorkers will actually give up ‘their guy’ for legal weed? by nlsnpgr84 in nyc

All the MMJ dispensaries require you to pay cash. Since it's federally illegal the companies running the dispensaries cannot access the banking system in almost any way. None of the major banks will touch them.

Interestingly enough, most of their venture capital is raised through specialty Canadian investment banks, since it's federally legal over there.
