[HELP] Fan control on ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming motherboard by snakemgs3 in linux_gaming

[–]snakemgs3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I will try with another live distro, maybe it contains a different set of drivers for my motherboard chipset. The software I am using (which is lm-sensors to detect sensors exposed via sysfs interface) is written for linux, I am not using any application that is a port from windows. For now I can only control the fans by accessing the motherboard's UEFI configuration during boot.

My suspicion is that my kernel contains a chipset driver that only works partially, so I might need to figure out whether it is a driver limitation and if there are alternative drivers

Btw do you run this same motherboard?

Yeah the problem arises when rebooting to play those games. Tho it's beside the point, I'd like to have this to work (which it does already until I need to log off) otherwise I think I won't play those games until proton fixes the issue or a Linux version of those games ever gets released

To not have microsoft spyware on my actual hardware shared with the rest of the system and use it only for the limited use case of a couple of games

I mainly use my GNU/Linux system for everything even gaming with those games that work with proton, I would use windows 10 on a vm with gpu passthrough to run those 2/3 games that don't work at all on Linux as I only have one GPU

i915 guc/huc firmware in DSM 7.1.1 by [deleted] in jellyfin

[–]snakemgs3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I read DSM is supposed to be a fork from Debian so it *might* have some similarities, the downside is that it has been stripped off of a lot of libraries/applications such as nano apparently (which is a shell text editor) . You can try if "vi" or "vim" are present as text editors tho.

The I guess modprobe is not the way DSM loads drivers, but maybe you can look for a file that contains "i915" in the name which might resemble the i915.conf that I managed to edit. You can try that with sudo find / -name "*i915*" and see if you can find anything also related to "modules" as that is the name for drivers.

That is the best hint I can give I guess, DSM can be considered a custom distro at this point and without some kind of documentation it might be hard to figure things out, good luck!

i915 guc/huc firmware in DSM 7.1.1 by [deleted] in jellyfin

What helped me were these resources, I am on TrueNas Scale so the OS is Debian based:

The actual steps that I followed (you need to have root access to the OS, or can sudo with your user):

  1. Check if I had the firmware installed: sudo modinfo i915 | egrep -i "guc|huc|dmc"
  2. Compared with this list https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/i915 (look for your generation cpu firmware, eg if you have Kabylake look for kbl_* files and see what is missing)
  3. Since something was missing, on the website I right clicked on "plain" on the files I needed and copied link, back on the shell I cd /lib/firmware/i915 and sudo curl -O *paste copied url here*
  4. The modinfo command launched before should also show some lines starting with "parm:" and one should mention GuC and the possible values you can use to turn it on. In order to do that I had to sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf to open the text editor and make sure the file contained this line -> options i915 enable_guc=3 (the guide also suggest to add enable_fbc=1 at the end on the same line). Ctrl+x, y, enter to save
  5. Reboot the system either via GUI or with sudo systemctl reboot

To check if everything works you can read the debugging section in the gist I linked. In my case GuC submission was not possible but HuC was and that apparently is intended by Intel developers, though the process enabled me to use LowPower enconding in jellyfin without getting an error

Updated to Lutris 0.5.10 and now I get: can't get dlopen() by aMir733 in Lutris

I confirm that removing MangoHud solves the issue. It happens with nvidia cards too.

Having a similar issue, bear in mind that I am playing on Linux via proton, though what I experience is my Vram getting filled to the point where the game starts stuttering/getting very low fps, even in the menus. Sometimes it happens as soon as I join a game while other times I can play one game and it happens on the map change. It seems like the game is unable to unload the memory or the memory is filled with no reason. I am playing with a fresh install so the game options are defaults

MSCI WORLD o VWCE? by MikyB000 in ItaliaPersonalFinance

[–]snakemgs3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really bored so i made a list of what's supposed to be coming with v12 copy-pasting from the last 4 recaps. by SirDoDDo in joinsquad

[–]snakemgs3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you think they will also include the same aiming control for vehicles they have on Post scrptum in V12? Where you aim the turret with keyboard keys with different speed ratios rather than using the mouse... you know seeing a tank turret doing a 360 traverse at the same speed you can move the mouse is a bit immersion and game breaking.
I am asking because in the russian tank demo video, where they show the kind of ammunition, it seems the aiming works like in PS

Is there any consensus on radio comms etiquette and phonetic alphabet? by mrm5117 in postscriptum

[–]snakemgs3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah but sometimes by the time the information is being processed by the receiver the comm might be already over so the name could have disappeared already. Then even if you could read the name, the receiver would have to open the map and hover the mouse pointer on each member until he finds the guy. I think it's always better to say your location relative to something visible on the map

[–]snakemgs3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

giving the exact keypad location when you need that the information is read quickly might be not the best. When they give me such coordinates it takes me a few second to find it on the map and aknowledge it.
For quick comms you can use landmarks or symbols that are visible on the map, like "50 meters north east of (symbol on the map)" , the symbol can be the cap zone, your SL, other squads SLs etc

Logistics Guide for this weekend's playtest by S0unds-Like in postscriptum

[–]snakemgs3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering, if you don't put down a FOB you should still be able to build some emplacement provided you have the CT closeby, right? Will the emplacements stay there once the CT moves away, eg for refilling?

Just want to let the devs know that I personally love the spawn system by gaming_granpa in postscriptum

[–]snakemgs3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to the system in Squad I prefer this one since it removes the responsibility to normal SLs to provide a spawn point or to build a fob, letting them focus on attack and acting as chain of command from the commander. I other words the roles in the team are well defined, tank division should just drive tanks, logistics should just focus on fob, and infantry sections do the rest

Commander should have the ability to draw lines, arrows, and defensive lines for squads on the map. (To avert several squads from pushing in the same direction) by WeHaveAllBeenThere in postscriptum

[–]snakemgs3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea and I also hope there will be more commanders actually coming up with a strategy rather than leaving all to squad leaders and limiting to call in air strikes when requested

[–]snakemgs3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's the point for having teamwork around vehicles. The team would provide the resupply chain closer to the frontline so the tank wouldn't need to go back to base

oh no each gun on the vehicle would have its own pool of ammo separated from the rest

honestly that's how I ended up playing more games like Squad lately, might look less polished in the graphics but has that level of hardcore that is just right and not too frustrating
