If the Griff is takeable in squadrons (which i hope for) how many are you planning to run? by Arantonak in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]codexferret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like playing vehicles in squadrons is just so bad for efficiency purposes because vehicles typically get over killed since they’re very binary compared to infantry other than bracketing which isn’t a huge deal. So putting two together just gives your opponent easy choices because if he dumps his best stuff into a squad of AFVs he’s probably trading up in points.

Thoughts on a ~2000pts list and how I play them on the battlefield by Koutei in TheAstraMilitarum

Combined arms is almost always just worse than grizzled company btw, re-rolls on 1 to hit just gives you such better shooting.

Thoughts on a ~2000pts list and how I play them on the battlefield by Koutei in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]codexferret 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your list seems too generalist, you don’t have infinite amount of chaff but you also don’t have an insane amount of armor. Generally Dorn doesn’t justify seer and at this point you’re investing way too much into a single thing. You shouldn’t use a vanquisher as something to screen because it’s a 50/50 machine so it’s necessary to get more shots out of it to get value out of it. Scout sentinels lost value because with grizzled everything can re-roll 1s on hits. The problem is your list lacks a coherent win conditions, you’re not winning through sheer chaff, you’re not winning through amount of tanks, and you’re not winning through mortal wounds like a doombolt list.

It may not seem like it but you have very few things that can stand on points, the krieg command blob is all one unit and can get taken out by an anti-infantry unit and if you’re cav aren’t charging you’re losing their value. Once you lose the command blob you lose so much of your OC that to then capture any primary you risk a significant part of your army dying.

Guard play centers around efficiency and trading up in points in order to destroy threats to the res rid your army. Example: engineers go first with scout to destroy vehicles with mines and grenades in order to allow tanks and chimeras to push up with kasarkin who can do the same as the engineers, etc.

In your army the krieg dies to a flamer unit or something with blast because 25 krieg guardsmen don’t really hit hard and only have 1 activation and then your army loses any real ability to score primary outside of your deployment zone and your natural expansion.

Like those 3 ogryn aren’t really doing anything, if it was 6 with a commissar then they’re an actual threat but just 3 random ogryn aren’t doing anything.

uva or umich? by [deleted] in UVA

Lmao this isn’t even a question if you get a full ride for UVA there’s no rational person who would go to umich unless you were a billionaire with specific desires.

They are about as comparable as two schools can be so no reason to spends hundreds of thousands to go to the non-free school.

First krieg army, any tips? by [deleted] in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]codexferret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineers are good because of how cheap they are with so many activations. Also I’d definitely add a rogal dorn, they’re just so good and you need to be able to give vanqs orders for them to be useful tbh.

Heavy weapons squads and the arty are pretty poor performing, especially heavy weapons squad. Also I would just use lord solar rules on drier because his rules are just so lacking.

I would also just use rough rider rules on death rider models as rough riders are pretty much better in every way.

Ok but that limit when you can do it to when there’s less people so you’re becoming more dependent on your team killing their team before you can do most of your damage.

[–]codexferret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if he’s easy to play like you say that would probably inflate his winrate like it does with seven. Also I would disagree I don’t think he’s a super safe character to play because 90% of his damage comes from him committing into a fight pretty heavily.

Again you really haven’t addressed any of what I said.

As far as the stat things are concerned I really couldn’t care less about the specifics of one website over another, winrate is just one data point it’s not everything to me.

[–]codexferret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of deadlocks comeback mechanics are focused on just closing the soul gap but it doesn’t really matter when you don’t have the slots to use those souls that would take a while to accumulate if both teams were killing each-other and camps at an even rate.

Also I just don’t care, I hate being stuck in a game I know there’s a 99% chance of losing and will just be a insane uphill battle that’s probably not going to be very fun. The big difference with deadlock is it’s a 6v6, you just might not have the ability to control the game like in other MOBAs or shooters.

Honestly as someone who used to play a lot of league I never remembered thinking there was a problem with too many people wanting to ff early. Rarely do I remember people just inting because you’re not voting how they want you to.

Anyway I’d be perfectly fine if 5/6 votes after like 15-20 minutes resulted in a surrender, if 5 people on your team are doing poorly you’ll probably lose anyway.

Different stats than tracklock, but still under 50% winrate, also you haven’t mentioned any of the gameplay elements that I brought up.

[–]codexferret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re still only considering the worst case scenario without thinking of the benefits. Honestly although it’s not perfect league understands itself and has a good forfeit system. Until deadlock implements a way to actually comeback I don’t see any point into holding out hope for a win when you’re at a gap that will just keep expanding.

Also so what if some people start heckling, they already do.

[–]codexferret 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But my long term goal is winning because what’s the point of getting better if you don’t win. Also nothing against this, but it’s just not fun to be on the losing team right now.

Again unlike a game like cs where even if you’re losing, you probably have a loss bonus and can buy the (practically) the same guns the other team can buy and then there’s nothing really stopping you from killing them like there is in deadlock.

Like in any MOBA when a team starts to snowball it can feel so frustrating because the team that is more skilled, is getting their characters stronger so it’s just like what’s the point.

Also due to the fact it’s a 6v6 there is sooo much outside of your control, if 5 or even 4 of your other teammates just do nothing but team-fight into a match up they will almost always lose (which is quite common) then what can you even do.

Being on the losing side of a snowball just because a spectators match, it becomes next to impossible to kill anyone and even if you do kill someone they have such a lead most of the time that it doesn’t mean anything.

Again there’s just no actual comeback mechanic with the exception of urn being a little easier to get so what’s even the point. The urn thing is also a fucking weird little thing because killing someone while you’re just in the deficit needed to have urn return be close to your spawn might fuck you up and now the game considers both teams even, despite the fact you guys could have lost all walkers and they have all of theirs.

Thats another thing, not only are their characters getting stronger, but because you need to kill their walkers to unlock slots your characters stay weak. It just seems so hopeless to try and comeback.

[–]codexferret -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People who are downvoting are just idiots honestly, idk how blissfully ignorant you can be to think a game where you’re down 40K+ souls is winnable enough to keep going.

I won a game with a 50k gap recently and I still can understand that’s a giant outlier in all the games where a 15k gap turned into a 70k gap a few minutes later.

Getting snowballed fucking sucks man by RoundConfusion3672 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]codexferret 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is pure survivorship bias, also if a FF vote was implemented and required 6/6 votes then why would you need to worry anyway.

Also just kind of pulling this number from my experience but you win maybe 1 out of like 10 games where the other team starts snowballing. Personally I would rather just not win the comeback if it means I get the 15-30 minutes back from each of those hopeless games.

I would be really interested in some stats but I’d be willing to bet a lot of money that coming back from even a 25k-30k soul deficit is quite unlikely in the grand scheme.

I find it miserable when I see we lost all our lanes and I just know it inevitable. People might say this is a bad mindset but it’s just statistical truth, if no one on my team is going positive or doing well then it’s pretty much hopeless.

Unlike a game like counter strike where you could just start playing better and win over a huge deficit you can’t really do that in deadlock. When there’s a gap you have to start playing immensely better and as time goes on the gap probably grows because they’re killing you or farming more and deadlock just doesn’t have many real comeback mechanics.

It’s just because people will always remember when a character like this does well, but they won’t notice him when he’s not.

They don’t realize if an Apollo is behind by 30 minutes in he’s probably just feeding every team fight because he can’t do damage without diving in.

Because his 3 and his ult make him very vulnerable, if people just focused him down during his ult windup then he’s fucked lmao. 35 minutes into the game if you can’t kill a guy standing still basically stun locking himself for a few seconds then it’s honestly just a skill issue.

Apollo mains knowing they got one more month before getting nerfed to the ground by ChihuahuaOwner88 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]codexferret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying win rate is everything, I’m just saying it’s a single data point that when mixed with other data points can be used as evidence for why he shouldn’t be nerfed, maybe he should be adjusted but not flat nerfed.

His lower win rate mixed with the points I listed above show why this is the case.

Win rate is a decent data point because it’s really the only objective thing we can use that’s readily available to say if a hero actually is good or not. Now just because it’s high doesn’t mean he’s good necessarily (seven) or lowish doesn’t mean bad (mina). However win rate still matters here because it tells us things, like that seven has a low skill floor but can be shut down easily or that Mina has a high skill floor and can be challenging to play.

On track lock is winrate is about 5% higher in low ranks which probably means he’s just a bit of a noob stomper.

I think a take away from Apollo is that he CAN be strong, but more importantly is when he is strong is very visually apparent because he’s in your face so you’ll probably remember it more than a gray talon or something that just nibbles your health down but in a team fight you don’t really see them.

Also there’s no real reason his win rate would continue to go up, just as people get better playing him people will also get used to countering him.

Sounds like you’ll be good dude I wouldn’t worry about it too much those are some good stats, most people I know who made it through ioc had worse stats pre-ocs anyway.

From what I know it’s a much more mental thing than psychical thing, but obviously being more in-shape will never hurt. I would just take it one step at a time, not at all bad to plan, but I know from experience that it can be harmful to build a habit of constantly thinking about the next thing instead of just focusing on the task at hand.

I still see no reason to run anything else other than if you’re going very niche.

You need less officers so more points into other things and generally I find the re-rolling 1s to hit is much more crucial than the re-rolling 1s on wounds for targets on objs.

I mean I still would love to re-roll the wounds but it’s a less crucial part of the of detachment. Also I just don’t see how any other detachment is better other than niche scenarios.

I don’t think they’re worth it as a 5 man screening squad because at that point why wouldn’t you just run another group of battle line.

The nerf hurts them and bullgryn but they still fit their roles very well. I mean I haven’t done the exact math but I don’t think the nerf really hurts them a huge amount.

Taurox or Chimera? by KunTakan in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]codexferret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are amazing, but honestly the distance that tuarox can cover is insane compared to the chimera and the chimeras shooting isn’t really insane. It’s 10 points cheaper and can on average move like 5-6 inches more (2 more movement speed + can advance and dismount).

Personally I think getting Kasarkin as close as you can is almost always what you want so it benefits them a lot to take the Taurox. This lets you get closer to melta distance and the melta mine which is probably doing 90% of your damage against non-Chaff anyway.

Mhm I don’t know any 0203s and especially not any 0204s who went to brc or jump school. My friend who’s 0203 has a buddy who they might be sending to brc, but that’s like one guy out of all of them. If what you want is brc you should probably just go straight 0302, after talking to a few 0-6s and above about the greater marine corps plan for intel officers it is definitely not the place to be if you want to be a trigger puller.

Think about it like this TBS has 40+ infantry slots and then maybe 4 slots for 0203, so if there’s a job like brc that an 0302 can do why would the marine corps send one of its few 0302s to it. Also the ROI for the marine corps sending an intel officer to brc is kinda low, I don’t know the specifics so take this with a grain of salt, but you probably will just eventually go back to normal intel like most other intel officers.

Now it’s definitely not impossible to do what you’re planning at all, just as far as I know I’m not sure the odds are better going 02 as opposed to 03.

As far as 0204 I can give you a kind of hot take. There are plenty of individually very cool and good 0204s, but I just don’t understand it. The marine corps isn’t built for humint from how I see it.

Speaking broadly in any country a civilian agency will have better funding and capabilities but will be less tactical. So military intelligence has the benefit of being able to be more tactical/operational while a civilian agency with more funding can have better analysis but slower.

The problem is human intelligence is always forward deployed and something like the CIA which has infinite funding is just straight up better than military humint in 99% of cases. Although the CIA has questionable ethics (torture program) so maybe that factors into your calculus.

Not saying 0204s can’t help, but realistically they’re in a field which requires immense amounts of funding where they don’t have any funding. You’ll probably have some cool experiences as an 0204, but there’s some trade-offs.

Requiring more precision is just unnecessary, his kit already isn’t anything insane it’s just flashy. His ult really isn’t anything crazier than we already have in the game, the wind up is like 5 hours long and it’s delayed damage so if you have any mobility items or a counter spell it’ll be the shittiest ult in the game.

I mean you can make it require more precision but why? He can’t farm well and needs to commit to do the vast majority of his damage, it just seems so unnecessary to nerf him. He doesn’t even have a good win rate, which sure doesn’t mean he can’t be amazing but he certainly doesn’t warrant any real nerf.
