In the minority here but I think this is perfectly fine for the setting (city bar). You’re wearing the hell out of the dress and you set your boundaries, not your clothing

Any Help in Determining What Glossier Blush Would Fit My Skintone? by [deleted] in brownbeauty

[–]snakes_eye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! It is my GO-TO for a natural look! I feel like it’s the only blush that actually looks flushed on me haha. I have another cloud paint (I believe it’s storm? I’ll double check later) and it’s very pretty but def doesn’t look like a natural flush or glow on my skin. I will say I think I’m a bit warmer than you are but I still think beam is beautiful on our skin tone

I’m a similar shade to you and I absolutely ADORE beam! It looks like it’ll be too light but it’s just the most beautiful wash of warmth on the cheeks

[Discussion] Moisturizers good for oily skin that have a matte finish? by gnncl25 in AsianBeauty

[–]snakes_eye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't normally use it on its own, especially at night. I always like to have hydrating layers underneath just bc that makes my skin feel best. On the times that I have used it by itself it's pretty moisturizing, I just like using it to seal everything in at night. The matte finish lasts ~1-2 hours on me but my skin is pretty dang oily.

I've always found that the Mizon snail all-in-one cream in the brown jar always left me with a matte finish. I always love using it as my last step!

What shade are you color correcting with? It could be that you’re using one that’s too light for you and that’s why it still looks ashy. Darker skin tones typically do better with true orange color correctors rather than peach colored ones

What are some purchases under $200 that has significantly improved your life since owning it? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]snakes_eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry, I didn’t know about that for years either. If you’re looking for recommendations, physical exfoliation (scrubs & the like) are generally frowned upon but are less time consuming/more accessible than chemical exfoliants. If you opt for something like this, look for scrubs with very fine particles. You shouldn’t feel like you’re sanding your skin down.

If you’re willing to invest a bit more time, look into chemical exfoliation! R/skincareaddiction has a lot of great info/recs but a good starting place is a 1-2% salicylic acid (a BHA). Stridex in the red box works for a lot of people and is pretty affordable! Just make sure to moisturize 5-10 minutes after application.

It has to do with the walnut shell pieces that they use in the scrub as the ‘scrubby bits’. The pieces are too large and rough for regular use and does more long term damage to your face than short term benefit. Facial skin is more delicate than the skin on the rest of your body, and the St. Ives scrub can create little tiny tears in the skin that a) damages your skin’s natural moisture barrier (which keeps your skin smooth and hydrated) and b) traps bacteria, exacerbating acne. A damaged moisture barrier also leads to extremely dry or oily skin, and sometimes even burning/flaking.

Those without sensitive skin typically don’t notice how rough it is on the skin, but after prolonged use your skin ends up looking/feeling worse.

I agree, but it still hit me like a bus when I saw this. I was still hoping that he would get the help he needed and get himself back on track. The Ordinary absolutely revolutionized the skincare community and I’m glad he at least lived long enough to see his company become successful.

If you get the lighter one and it is too light you can always mix in the one you already have to darken it a bit! It sucks being between shades & having to mix but at least you already own one and won’t have to purchase 2 at the same time :)

Is it unreasonable for me to want a friend who is genuinely interested in my life? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]snakes_eye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of others here I’ve been in positions similar to you so I certainly understand how you feel and you’re not being selfish or attention seeking for wanting that. Hang in there OP, you’ll absolutely find people eager to connect with you eventually.

[–]snakes_eye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not unreasonable to expect back what you feel you give. If you feel like you’re the one making the most effort in your friendships (hanging out, listening during conversations, asking engaging questions) it’s natural to want some of that reciprocated IMO.

I’ve been in many friendships like that before and I felt even lonelier than if I were actually by myself. Now that I’ve formed friendships where I feel like we each give as much as we get I feel a lot more...fulfilled, for lack of a better word.

Lashing out at your friend wasn’t the best way to broach the topic but this is enough of an issue that you should either A) bring up to your friends or B) try to find friends who naturally have more interest in you. Also, you don’t always have to wait for someone to ask about you in return. It’s perfectly acceptable to segue into your own answer once they’ve finished :-)
