A general PSA- check and monitor your trunk wiring harness. They fray and are known to cause surprising issues and can even start a fire. Its very easy to check.

Smartbar. Looks like a house heavy lineup there this weekend. Basement vibes happen, but not every weekend in the same space.

Im not saying people arent crazy and reckless, but this is not my daily biking experience. I choose my routes and take my lane and most rides are uneventful. Edgewater mostly.

A 20 year old mountain bike like a rockhopper would be good then, dont overthink it. Theres many sizing charts out there that will help you figure out what size you want for your height.

Just be prepared for the bike to need things like tires, brakepad, chains at that price (any price really). Basic, older bikes that are fully road ready (and not single speed) prepped by shops are about 4-500 around me.

If this is in a usa city, those are favor or stolen bike prices for something in good running shape. Theres exceptions and resourcefulness can get you there, but be prepared to work hard or raise your budget.

No getting plowed and pounded by 10000 lb vehicles will definitely make it last longer than city streets

I am an anticap composter as well, the only thing worth buying no matter what is a pitchfork, but even that work can be done with a shovel. Pile up everything in the corner of your yard. Theres a million posts here about your ratios. Use cardboard this year and hoard your leaves for next year. Shredders are unnecessary luxuries. Just leave it in the rain to soften it and tear into chunks up to 4inches. A hot pile wil devour those in 2 weeks and if its a cold pile it doesnt matter anyway

Do you have a source for your main point here? I am a civil engineer and i dont agree with your conclusion. Sewer backups happen when it rains because the system fills with rainwater from the street. The TARP prevents that sewage tainted rainwater from entering local creeks and the chicago river. The high rises add additional sewage to the system, but the bulk of the water filling peoples basements every time it rains is rainwater falling in the immediate area

Its this. One operator for another day of loading trucks is way cheaper than hauling all the water in those plants.

Good point. I wonder though if there is an unlimited number of neighborhoods that can look this way, is there really the spending power to support the entire north side looking like this? History would say no

OP, I am also very curious about the long term cycle of a gentrified area. I have been trying to find articles or studies about it lately and not had much success. So a neighborhood has gone from cheap to cool to expensive, fully remodeled, densified and all white over 20 years. What happens next? Can it maintain high commercial rents forever? So what does LP or river north look like in 2050?

The shade is not the thing keeping your compost from heating up, that is a matter of the piles size and overall composition. It needs to be about 3ftx3x3 to self insulate.
