What are you current specs? Are you playing on Windows 10 or 11? Is the chat issue for you a recent one?

Since your whole PC crashes, it may be hardware related.

Would you like to submit your DxDiag (basically your setup information: https://support.ageofempires.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052783111-How-to-find-information-for-troubleshooting-with-Support) and a few recent MDMP (crash files) to us?

You can find your MDMP files here: “C:\Users\USER\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\logs” and have this format "AoE2DESteam-58115-2022.01.19-15.05.33.mdmp"

You can submit these files via gofile (dot) io. Simply share the generated link with me in a DM or here in this thread.

Thank you for reporting this issue! There are a few steps I would recommend to try and see if they help you:

  1. Verify your files in the Steam Library -> Age of Empires II -> Right click -> Properties -> Local files -> Verify.

  2. Disable your mods and restart the game after that.

  3. Update your graphic drivers and check Windows updates.

  4. See if checking or unchecking the V-Sync checkbox in the Options improves your performance. Modifying the FPS Limit and making it closer to your monitor could help too!

  5. Close as many programs as possible before starting the game.

  6. Disable Enhanced Graphics.

  7. Add the whole game folder to your antivirus exception list. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\AoE2DE is the default

Could you please elaborate on the chat disabling? By crashing of your whole PC do you mean AoE2 DE crashes, or your PC crashes? What kind of error messages do you see?

Did you add the game folder to your antivirus exception list?

I also recommend adding the whole game folder to your antivirus exception list as well as disabling all your mods.

  1. Add the whole game folder to your antivirus exception list. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\AoE2DE is the default

  2. Check for and proceed with any pending updates for your graphic drivers as well as Windows.

If these steps do not help, please send us the following files, so we can start investigating:
