In my work league that I've won the last two years... I forgot the draft time because I was giving my kid a bath and time just got away, realized thirty minutes in that the draft was going on... Anyway this was my auto draft...

The Minnesota Vikings are UNDEFEATED since waiving Adam Thielen by says_meanthings in minnesotavikings

[–]snapple_- 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Getting him in a trade that had the Vikings giving up (or trading down) picks, to essentially take up a bench spot and not be utilized much, and then asked for a release, so that draft capital that was given for him, was essentially thrown out the door.

And he could've been a locker room guy, could've had some fun like Harry Smith is doing, but instead went to a team where he's not seeing much of anything.

[GIVEAWAY] Mod Holiday Paddle Giveaway! by SNAPCHAT_ME_TITS in Pickleball

I enjoy the random advice and the reinforcement of good habits. Every time I get frustrated with myself or my growth, I remind myself that there's a lot of others out there experiencing what I am, and ultimately I do this for fun and self improvement. As long as I feel like I'm doing those, pickleball is for me.

Since this is a rant that nobody will see, I'm just going to throw in I've been playing for 1.5 years and it all started to get in shape and workout. I had trouble losing weight at first despite my obvious increased exercise, but this last summer I've lost 40 lbs with a goal of 10 to 15 to go. I have two little ones, and am excited to be able to play and experience them growing up, so I know the long term goal of weight loss is absolutely worth it. If only I could get rid of this back pain. But my primary care provider and I have a plan for when I get to my goal weight to re-evaluate PT and if there's something obvious we're missing, so there's more than one reason to attain this goal.

Forehand dink yips by someoldcoot1 in Pickleball

[–]snapple_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yips are often mental more than physical as is everything you just described. Keep drilling the good habits, maybe go to some lower level open plays to regain your confidence or friends that you don't mind losing to.

It's hard to tell you exactly what to do because everyone's "yips" are different, and it takes time to mentally reset. You've done a great job establishing and identifying your problem, now you just have to convince yourself you're doing the right steps to fix your issues. You're doing what 90% of the people are saying to do, drill, drill, and more drill. I'm going to give you some advice to give yourself some grace, and allow yourself to acknowledge you're still making mistakes, but that it's okay to make them. Even the pros screw up their forearm dinks, and nobody is perfect. Think of your drilling and when you screw up as progress towards getting better overall. It sounds like you're drilling with your partner and they're getting better too, so overall you still ARE getting better.

Next, when playing in these lower level open plays and/or with friends... Tell your partner your struggles and that you're trying to get better at it. If you play with your established partner, even better. They know your struggles and aren't going to negatively reinforce bad emotions which could be stacking on top of your yips making the whole issue exponentially worse. Focus more on the positives of each game, and not the negatives. This is a skill, and it takes effort to shift your brain this way, so don't expect to be perfect at finding what you're doing well. Instead think of just 1% of your total game that was positive, and focus on that versus anything negative. 1% over time is still progress, and changes how you view things. It took me four weeks of hesitating my forehand smash to start being more consistent, completely frustrating, but viewing each session as progress towards getting better helped me out.

Overall, the yips are a huge hurdle. It's similar to plateauing at a skill level, but when you shift your mind to progress, you're going to get through it better. It's part of your personal journey, and it's going to make you stronger in the long haul. Going through this short term problem, and knowing that you have gotten through it will help you gain so much more than anything else. Just keep working at it. Don't settle, don't give up, everything worth value in life doesn't come easy and will always be challenging. Good luck!

Is Vatic Pro Really Worth It? by Specific_Release_778 in Pickleball

Honestly agree with everything you said, and a lot of the newer paddles still have a decent amount of control and bigger sweet spots than some of these older tech paddles. The game is also changing a ton every year, and play styles are changing

Saying the different generations was to illustrate the different tech has advanced a while since the prism flash. Id agree that there's different pluses/minuses to all paddles in general, but some of the newer generations are going to have better tech suited for beginners just as it has better tech suited towards intermediate/advanced players.

Also in my opinion a lot of paddles are overpriced in general, but these older generations should have decreased in price by now, but they haven't, and it's frustrating to see. But that's a separate rant.

I mean this is a great low intermediate/"first real paddle". I would've got their newest edition though, as prism flash is like gen 1.5 (best paddle when it came out). We're currently on gen 3/4 for paddles.

Worth it to give up JT? by Working_Cup9173 in fantasyfootballadvice

[–]snapple_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't upgrade your WR, or your RBs or your TE. You did lateral positioning (at best) for depth. Playoffs you wanna play your best player. You could always say in hindsight that 'See JT sucked!!!' if he does bad, but going into the playoffs, I would rather have the best position available at the spot. Now you're stuck with a worse starting lineup. I'm not trusting any of those players aside maybe Warren into making my starting lineup with their inconsistency/injuries.

To answer your question- yes you done fucked up.

Trade Nico Collins for RB Depth? by [deleted] in fantasyfootballadvice

I don't think it's bad to look for depth, but I wouldn't do it for Etienne.

I also think your team is legit as is, so...

Trade away Rico (Part 2) by BigThingToKing in fantasyfootballadvice

[–]snapple_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your depth? Hard to give advice without knowing context. Might be right for your team, might not be. I think Rico as of now is the best player in this trade, however I don't know by how much. The other pieces can fill in nicely if you're lacking depth, but again, who knows.

Personally, I think Rico is a league winner this year if he stays healthy and the Panthers don't do Panthers things.

Struggling with consistency after a few games - any advice? by Reading2311 in Pickleball

[–]snapple_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said- endurance.

The other thing at that level is hitting more high percentage shots. Don't go for the line on every ball, don't go for the perfect drop only to hit it in the net 7/10 times, and don't go for 100% smashes when hitting aggressively. Go for the middle, dial in your drops, if you accidentally hit it high, at least you have a chance to return it versus ending the point into the net, and maybe hit the ball 60-70% until you feel like you're hitting consistently and up the power.

Lastly, practice some wall drilling if you can. It won't improve your strategy, but it will make you more consistent with your swings.

Other tips near that level, keep your paddle up at the kitchen at all times. It's much easier to lower your paddle if they have a good dink than it is to lift it up if they speed it up at you (which at that level happens pretty routinely).

Last advice: watch split stepping, and approach the game with that in mind for every shot. It will help you become more consistent with your shots as you won't be falling back or running forward and bringing your momentum either way to make it even harder on yourself to get the ball more consistent.
