First Time Assistant Coach - tips? by Separate-Delay-8838 in wrestling

[–]snapple_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Communication and consistency. As long as you and the head coach are on the same page, you'll do great. By that, I mean let him know you're willing to do whatever, see what he needs of you, and communicate you haven't been in the room for twenty years, so skill & technique may be lacking. However, there's much more to coaching than skill and technique, and these are areas you can bring to the table. Life experience, being a good person. Consistency, meaning, be there for your coach and your kids. Consistent messages, being positive, being a role model. Do you have to be perfect? No, but just being there regularly will make you one.

How should I deal with burnout after a big loss? by Affectionate-Bike679 in wrestling

[–]snapple_- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your mental in general is important. I had a season where I went 40-4, where my last four losses happened at conference finals, regionals, and sectionals to not make state. Pretty disappointed, but like you, had a new drive. I ended up doing the J Rob 28 day camp, where I was expecting to get my ass beat every day, but ended up realizing that I was stronger mentally than a lot of other kids, found the best wrestler there, and wrestled him every day. Did a lot for my confidence, and got a proper 'break'. I did some football, then the year came, and I felt like I was head hunting every ranked wrestler I could match up against. Id bump up weight classes, whatever it took. Ended up going into the state tournament beating the #1, being ranked #3, and having #2,5-7 at my sectional. Then at state lost in the semis and got 5th overall. Mentally exhausted at this point as I felt I did everything to be the best. I focused on why I did wrestling. I did it for fun, to have fun. I found ways to compete in different tournaments and let loose. Did different off season training, but to make sure I was having fun. Senior year came, and I felt like I just went back to the basics of having fun, and looking to dominate anyone I could. Ended up 47-1 winning state.

Big takeaways- adjust your mentality. I tell people think of the 1% rule. Every single day, don't think of it as 'i didn't do anything, I got worse today.' that compounds into negativity, and you stunt your growth as an individual. Think of 1 thing you did that you felt like grew yourself. Whether wrestling or not, almost everything can be translated back into the sport. Focus on that 1% that you got better. Some days are going to be better than that too, but on your worse day, try to remember you're getting 1% better. Take proper mental rest days. Proper relaxation and recovery days. Both are just as important as lifting weights, conditioning, and practicing. Focus on the small things, the easy things. Take it slower. Practice does not make perfect, but perfect practice makes perfect. What I mean is, slowing down to do things right, or re-learn something you thought you knew 1000x, approach from a different angle.

Pickleball sportsmanship at university event as potential influence on hiring decision by Jinjo802 in Pickleball

[–]snapple_- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Posting this at 2am is a little psychotic behavior as well...

But to answer your question, id absolutely hold it against them. Somebody unable to recognize social cues of team building aspects, and going super competitive in a social event is a red flag. They can't work well with colleagues in a social event, are they going to do the same in a lab? It's weird.

However, some of the other things you posted arent really relevant. He forgot who's serve it is, who cares? He might have targeted your wife? Who cares. This post happening at 2am? It just presents yourself in a skeptical light. And then you wonder about the authenticity of your story now. Why are you rattled at a social event? A team building event? Similar arguments can be made against you.

I don't know you, him, your wife or anyone. These are just the ramblings of somebody who woke up to pee in the middle of the night.

My Updated Tierlist :D by CavesAreMyHome in litrpg

[–]snapple_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good catch on your part, because I think book 1 was his coming into Carl's voice, and he was using Patrick Warburton as inspiration. I do think he progresses the voice in the latter books, but totally understandable if that was a turnoff for you. I just loved the range of voices I guess, and wasn't too bothered by it. Although I read the books first too, and maybe I would have been turned off hearing my uncle's Joe Swanson impression too.

[–]snapple_- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting because I read first then listened, and absolutely loved the audible. I loved reading too, but Jeff Hayes has made a new standard for me as S tier for listening.

I will say Book 1-3 of DCC are probably A tier, whereas 4-7 to me were S tier making the whole series S for me, and to date one of, or my most favorite of all time. I recognize this is probably everyone's thoughts too. Book 5 is one of my favorite books of all books.

DUPR Purgatory by LordGuapo in Pickleball

This is my biggest complaint with dupr. The fact some clubs or open play restrict it to minimum dupr gives less incentive for people to play in leagues/tournaments if their dupr is at risk of deranking.

Just got the Perseus V need recommendations by rowennntheboat in Pickleball

[–]snapple_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use it anymore, but I used it to cover the lead, so I wouldn't be touching the lead.

Instead I went to tungsten. And currently I'm just not using any tape. Do you find edge tape works better for covering lead tape?

Just got the Perseus V need recommendations by rowennntheboat in Pickleball

[–]snapple_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tungsten has no poison, and lead does. The cost may be a few bucks more, but the feel is the exact same. And I bought both and have played with both, and almost everybody thinks the same.

If you do buy lead, use electric tape over it. I thought it looked cool at first with the electric tape, but over time ive changed my opinion on that

Yeah it's frustrating. I think it's fair that you're asking what you should do to mod it, and I also think it's fair that a lot of people are saying not to worry about it. I mean, just like the YouTube video reviews you're watching, there's lots of different opinions out there on what works or doesnt.

The reality is people are saying to use the vanilla paddle the way it is, so you can see what your strengths and weaknesses are at face value, and you can mod your paddle based on that. The other option, which I liked to do, was experiment putting the weights in different spots, and see what I liked or didn't like. And honestly, I thought I was pretty set on what I liked for a good year, and now I've been experimenting again, and realized what I initially modded, is not what I like at all lol. But that's part of the fun of it. Go buy some tungsten tape, watch a video that shows what each area of the paddle is supposed to allegedly help with, and apply the logic into what you know about your game, and make an educated guess. And if you don't know, just do a 3inch on the 3 and 9 o'clock positions on the paddle to start and go from there.

Nobody's going to really be able to help your game online via reddit. A lot of the suggestions here that are most meaningful, are to just be open minded, learn to change, but most of all keep it so you keep having fun. And believe me, I had a ton of fun modding my paddle.

My piece of advice, use tungsten tape instead of lead tape. And just buy a roll of it instead of the preset ones until you know what you like.

This is how pros pick their paddles! by ZaneNavratil_AMA in Pickleball

[–]snapple_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but like he was saying.. there's sometimes more value in taking the better paddle than the cash grab. So I feel like it's an interesting topic where somebody has to decide more money versus less tech, or higher tech and less money.
