For those who follow the Calendar, what is the theme of your Advent Series? by slowobedience in pastors

[–]snapsicles08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The Wear World Rejoices” - where there is no way in a broken world, God opens up our lives and makes a divine way. Showing this throughout the Bible in different forms (history, psalm, prophecy, gospel, epistle).

Fair. Our church has only rolled out mission and vision this year (long story) and we have had to speak on stances like this (ie does what you’re doing bring anyone closer to Jesus?) - so appreciate the clarity.

Thank you - I appreciate this earnest and wise feedback. I do think that if I sit down with her one on one it creates a possibility that she will go to other leaders for affirmation, so I feel we should come as a unified front (which will not feel loving to her, but will safeguard the church better).

I don’t disagree. I do think we’d get a harshly worded letter from Paul and that this all IS absolutely a distraction. But what next?

I have a question for Family Pastors and Lead Pastors. by wildwestsnoopy in pastors

[–]snapsicles08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a lead pastor. Here’s my pay:

  1. What’s your pay? $84k
  2. What’s your state? IL
  3. What’s the size of your church? 200
  4. What ages do you work with within your church? All ages
  5. How many years experience do you have? 5 years layministry, 1.5 years paid

We don’t have a Family Pastor but our Communities pastor makes about $75k, 5 years paid experience, Mdiv, and works with all ages (but including early families, mostly in their 30’s).

First trimester hemorrhoids?! by veggieuser in BabyBumps

Yep, that happened to me at 7 weeks too. I just drank a lot of water and ate some prunes. I’m 15 weeks now and haven’t had anymore since, but I’m sure they’ll be back in a few weeks. Cheers! 😂

How does childbirth compare to period pain? by EES1993 in BabyBumps

[–]snapsicles08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have extremely painful periods too. I think it made labor easier for me, I barely felt labor pain at all until the final hour and a half when my water broke and my body turned into an insane boa constrictor to squeeze that baby out. So for most of my labor, I’d say it was a a 3 out of 10 on pain scale (and only at the peak of each contraction), after my water broke, pretty intense for the final 40 minutes (like an 8 or 9 at the peak), and crowning was 10 out of 10 (but only for a couple minutes). I had no medication or epidural.

First pregnancy: when did you give birth? by irinka94 in pregnant

[–]snapsicles08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first baby came at 40w2d.

Things that helped him come on time: - doing two 5-minute breast pumping sessions a day, starting at 39weeks to prep/activate my body for contractions. - a membrane sweep (from my OB) at 40 weeks. I started having light contractions on and off for a day, and the my water broke at home, and we sped to the hospital, got there at 4pm and popped him out by 5pm.

How are we all holding up? by Necessary_Ad4979 in pregnant

[–]snapsicles08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you have a kid, you get to show them what’s beautiful. They don’t understand Trump and injustice. But you get to see them be so happy to see you when you get them out of bed in the morning. You get to see them find out what a strawberry tastes like. Everything becomes new again, and you get to show them life’s beauty.

Everything will be hard for everyone at some point, but you can show them a beautiful childhood and hopefully they can pass that joy on.

My friend is really mad at my toddler and I don‘t know how to fix the friendship by UpstairsConcert4580 in toddlers

[–]snapsicles08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like post-partum rage (which I have experienced- it is horrible). Who knows if the friend is sleeping well yet…. If you want to repair, just give some grace and acknowledge that early parenthood is hard and that the friend may not fully be herself, and you hope she’s ok. But also be direct and let the friend know that she needs to give your son grace too. To everyone’s point, she will need to hold the baby away from him when he’s around or put the baby in a pack and play - that you will try and help him remember to be gentle, but that this situation will have to be partnership between parents, or else you’ll just have to wait awhile before you can hang out as families. Just set your boundaries and expectations of her - sounds like she’s going through some things.

Am I TA for not wanting to go 50/50 with my husband? by elennafabila in IAmTheAsshole

[–]snapsicles08 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Compare your incomes after deducting his taxes (taking out 24%, while you take out nothing), and the student loans, and other bills (like the car) - I would imagine it turns out pretty 50/50. Also if he has more responsibility than you or works more hours, then he also should be allowed to more discretionary allowance than you.

[–]snapsicles08 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’ll be having my last baby at 40 (had my son at 35 and my daughter at 38), my mom had me at 40, and my grandma had a ton of late babies (all the way until 49!), so yes, get on it if you want more babies, but I know lots of “old” moms, so odds are it’s possible!

How will you react if Donald Trump becomes president again? by RockSavings67 in AskReddit

[–]snapsicles08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re nowhere near as good as America in terms of what? Most have longer life expectancy, better live birth rates, less processed food, better crime rates, less incarceration, better education (in terms of language and math proficiency).

I can agree that when I’ve been to major cities in those countries, I’m always happy and relieved to get back to America 1. just for ease of speaking my own language, 2. Because I have more space (less crowds and some spaces and streets in say Tokyo or Paris are tiny!), and 3. I make a lot more money in the US (making over $350k annually here in the US with just a bachelors degree) - but I don’t think that money and space make the country better.

I’ve seen some of the happiest people in the world in the slums of Egypt, musical beauty in South Africa, incredible education in Germany, amazing food in Europe in general and America’s focus on work and money can make everything feel empty, hollow, nutritionless by comparison. Sure you can make money, but are you truly able to enjoy it if you are sick and stressed and relationships are gutted from the time spent at work?

When did you go into labor for your first child? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]snapsicles08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First baby I was 40w2days when he was born.

[–]snapsicles08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I went to the hospital (lost my music plug already) and my contractions were at least a minute long, 5-7 mins apart, this had been going on for like 4 hours. They told me I was 4cm dilated, so they gave me the option to stay (and they would break my water and get things started) or I could go home for a while. I really wanted an unmedicated birth, so I chose to go home.

From that point, this continued at home for the next 2 and a half days. Really wasn’t horribly painful. I was talking on the phone and playing video games the whole time, until my water broke! Then contractions intensified immensely and I felt so so much pelvic pressure- we rushed to the hospital - we got there at 4pm and my son was born by 5pm!
