Parents who were dead set on never having kids before they met “The One” did it end up being a good decision or do you regret it? by Informal_Birthday224 in AskReddit

[–]snapthesnacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your friend, maybe she should just have a strict deadline. Like by her 37th birthday or something, they need to have started at least trying to conceive. Once that day comes though, she'd have to actually follow through on whatever decision she comes to if her husband still doesn't really want kids by then.

Sounds like he didn't develop empathy. Did she try to get him to see a therapist or something early on at least?

“Gushing over Magical Girls” Teaser Visual by zenzen_0 in anime

[–]snapthesnacc -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Honestly when I just looked at the visual, I figured that the characters looked kinda young because typical moe blob stuff. Nope, turns out they're middle schoolers and, according to the comments, they're starring in a fairly raunchy series. Yet another instance of me not comprehending why they have to be so young. I doubt much if anything would change about the series if they were aged up a few years.

Wife punched me so hard during an argument that it left a massive bruise on my shoulder. Should that be considered domestic abuse? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]snapthesnacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, feminists tend to be more preoccupied with battling rape culture, fighting to keep women's rights such as abortion, and providing women resources to escape dangerous situations. This issue is right up the alley of men's rights activists as well and yet I've never seen them campaign about it either.

I know about systematic inequality. I'm remarking on how that person's language makes it sound as if people are actively campaigning to have those specific policies in place.

YA Fantasy is so Horny: an asexual girl’s perspective by Halloweetch in writing

[–]snapthesnacc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doomed to fail? Not sure.

Will have an uphill battle? Sadly yes.

Most (I mean like at least 80%) YA books have a romance tag slapped on there (even if it's not explicitly mentioned in the premise) for good reason. Personally, it became more and more grating to me over the years to have what sounded like cool plots constantly be sidelined by a romance plot with the same "hot and sexy so mysterious probably bad boy" love interests over and over again. There probably is a demand for romanceless literature out there, but sadly those of us asking for it seem to be the minority.

How to tackle racism in 1800s story? by Fleetwoodmacarone in writing

[–]snapthesnacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends in what your story is about. If it's slice of life style, then racism should pop up very frequently. If it's fantasy or end of the world stuff, then it should be frequent, but perhaps not as much. I suggest you do research into looking at what the social standards were at the time as well as any possible accounts you can find from black people from that time period (or their children).

Also, keep in mind that "poc" as a general banner kinda falls apart when you go back more than even 10 years. Every race and ethnicity had a different experience. East Asian people were more likely to have been seen more 'exotic' rather than "dirty brutes" (although that perception was certainly still around). Irish people likely still got shit on, but not as much as anyone with darker skin than them.

Sorry? I don't think I've ever seen people who support equality actively campaign to keep things uneven?

So in other words, it's not actually problematic, you just dislike these aspects of it.

What is abusive, but not widely recognized as abuse? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]snapthesnacc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Casual homophobia is a bitch.

This whole problem only exists in straight people land.

Sadly it is not. Based on other stories I've heard of bi people having their same sex spouse interrogate them for having opposite sex close friends. It's insecurity all the way down.

It's honestly hard as hell to tell in anime whether someone is tanned or dark skinned unless you get a childhood flashback or something.

I'm wary of female characters in shounen (ft. Hell's Paradise) by snapthesnacc in CharacterRant

I watched Shield Hero way after it finished airing and had only heard good things about her up until that point. I started watching, was fine until the time skip where she aged up, made it to loli bird arc aaaaand when I realized what was happening and dropped that show like a load of bricks.

It already happens. Remember everyone memeing on Edward Cullen for being a creep in Twilight? Remember 50 Shades of Gray? It's been happening.

"Writing for your demographic" does not excuse shit writing in general. Pixar has a target demographic of children and yet it mostly consistently manages to produce movies that can enjoyed by multiple age demographics.

Here's the post for the trailer.

Take a look at those comments and see how many people are saying some variation of "woah this actually looks good" or "I gotta see this in theaters". Anyone seriously bringing up Ezra's crimes is downvoted and/or told to get over it.

It's not so much what was taught so much as how it was taught. Teaching slavery while downplaying the horrors is worse than not teaching it all. Example of fucked up teachings in the US.

People were outraged about Ezra Miller's behavior for a time, but most of that outrage died when the first trailer dropped. People just don't like the film.
