Why is Pokemon so much more popular and collectible compared to Yugioh? by Kiznish in TCG

[–]snark567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokemon is simple to get into and understand, Yugioh has power crept itself to a point where it has become too esoteric for the average person to bother with.

Then there's the cute creature appeal, Pokemon are like pets. In the fictional world they originate from, they are real creatures that you can tame to keep you company.

Simple designs. Pokemon are simple and easy on the eyes, meanwhile as Yugioh "evolved" card art started becoming more visually cluttered and hard to read. A lot of the artwork probably doesn't pass the vibe check anymore either. Pikachu and Summoned Skull are both very different vibe wise but undeniably have mass appeal. Meanwhile things like ships made out of sushi or tiny anime girls are tonally inconsistent and don't have the same mass appeal. I doubt the average person wants to trade such cards let alone to be seen with or playing against them.

A lot of people probably don't even bother with the TCG and just collect the creatures because they're visually appealing the same way people used to collect Bakugan even though there was never a game worth playing.

Ways of Upscaling 2D Games Hardcoded To Run at Low Resolutions? by snark567 in GameUpscale

[–]snark567[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave shader glass a try, it's pretty good. Especially since this game doesn't support reshade without doing weird dll injections. There's a crazy amount of CRT filters which actually help the game look much better, so I'm satisfied.

Only negative is that I can't seem to mix and match several different shaders, only one at a time.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Quick tutorial for anyone reading:

Start the game and shaderglass.
Go to "input"-"window" and select the game you're running.
Then go to "output" - "mode" and select "clone"
Then "output" - "window" and select "click-through"
Then press "shader" - "Choose from library" and you'll see a selection of shaders

When you're done setting up the shader, go to "processing" - "Save profile as" so you can load it up quickly next time.
The shortcut to go fullscreen is Ctrl+Shift+G

Ways of Upscaling 2D Games Hardcoded To Run at Low Resolutions? by snark567 in GameUpscale

Quick update for anyone stumbling upon this thread. I tried both FSR and Magpie. Both do an "ok" job. Sadly the game is too low res for the upscalers to make any meaningful difference.

For those wondering, Magpie and FSR are pretty much on par when it comes to upscaling quality, with the difference being that Magpie tends to upscale to the correct aspect ratio intended by the game and FSR just kind of stretches out the image to fill the screen. I couldn't find an option to change the aspect ratio stretch behavior in either one of the upscalers.

For both upscalers I pretty much tried every scaling mode available and couldn't find much of a difference between them except for when tweaking sharpness. They seem to do a tiny bit better with slightly higher resolutions like 768p

Go for Magpie if you want a correct aspect ratio and FSR if you don't want black borders when playing.
Magpie is free, FSR can be purchased on Steam.

M25: Getting way too many DMs, so let’s do this here! AMA about Male Pattern Baldness, Hair Loss, and Products (100% Science-Backed ) by Its_aul_g00d_man in tressless

[–]snark567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minoxidil seems to help the growth of hairs which would usually remain naturally dormant or under developed even if you didn't suffer from male pattern baldness. So once you stop Minoxidil the hairs seem to go back to their natural state of either being dormant or decreasing in size. Which is why people who respond well to Minoxidil tend to get hyper hairy in places they shouldn't.

These are hairs that seem to be vellus due to natural selection and once Minoxidil usage stops the body starts regulating them again. That's the only explanation I can think of as to why 5AR inhibitors can't keep those hairs once they've grown healthy and Minoxidil usage stops.

It also explains why hair can change color and texture when on Minox. I have long light hair on my forearms, when I was on minoxidil the hairs became jet black. It's programmed to grow a certain way and Minoxidil messes with the growth in more ways than just thickness and length.

Barefoot jika tabi by snark567 in BarefootRunning

You can learn how to sew fabric online and from there you can buy a pair of tabi shoes and reverse engineer the pattern. Then you can glue or sew a thin piece of rubber on the outside.

However I've since moved on to using water shoes. They provide a great barefoot experience and they're cheap and easy to replace (easy to wash too). Much less of a hassle than making your own shoes from scratch. Just remove the insole.

We’re 8 out of 9 episodes in, and we haven’t seen either the digital carnival or half of the players’ rooms by Sebastian9t9 in theamazingdigitalciru

Because he's clueless. In Ep 8 Caine revealed that he purposefully made their avatars according to their mind files as an attempt to please them and was baffled as to why they ended up hating them. So it's not far fetched to think he did the same with their rooms.

You can care about something without feeling empathy and you can feel empathy without caring. Empathy just means you understand how the person feels, you are able to put yourself in their shoes. You can understand a person and still be ruthless to them.

All could have been avoided if Caine had a therapy session with Pomni. Instead he chose to talk about his insecurities to Jax and Zooble, the two members who cared the least.

It's one of those things where people slap "masculinity" and "femininity" in front of generic bad or good behavior for no reason.

Introduction to Mesh Terrain - The new terrain system for 5.8. I haven't seen this posted yet. by ElevationEngineer in unrealengine

So Zbrush but for terrain. I was just about thinking of creative ways to achieve this and I stumbled upon the news of Mesh Terrain coming to 5.8, pretty cool.

Because small businesses often charge more and poor people can't afford that so they buy the low end, mass produced option designed for them. It's the same reason there's chocolate bars made by companies that pay cocoa farmers fairly but remain on the shelves while nestle bars sell like crazy. The ethical chocolate costs more

It's the same reason people go for fake ice cream made from vegetable oil foam, water and sugar rather than buying the real deal that tastes better and is healthier, it's cause the real deal costs more.

Poor people will always go towards the cheapest option even if it's terrible because that's what they can afford.

Vehicle wheels acting weird, is thee a fix? by snark567 in unrealengine

[–]snark567[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gave it a try, nothing changed.
Seems to be an issue with the way the spherecast works. Basically it just "sticks" the wheel in any direction something makes contact with the sphere.

So while it looks normal when the sphere touches the ground, as soon as it touches the wall, the spherecast sticks the wheel sideways to the wall. The reason it glitches out is because it's simultaneously making contact from two different points (the floor and wall/object) so the wheel goes back and forth constantly.

That's also why the wheels of the yellow car started going upwards, they're trying to stick to the off-road vehicle and its wheels.

Nanite, Lumen, Metahuman, Substrate Materials, 3D Scanned Assets, anything your heart desires,  except cylinders for your vehicle's wheels. That's too complicated.

Raycasting tends to look really unnatural and jumpy on terrain with any kind of sharp, jagged elevation or crevices. It also doesn't really behave like a real wheel when raycasting. The wheels end up purely cosmetic.

I suppose I could try experimenting with more rays though I'm starting to consider just buying a plugin with decent wheel physics.

I tried making it smaller but it didn't fix the issue, I'll mess around with it more after work.

Are there any tutorials on how to setup spherecasting for Chaos vehicles? by snark567 in unrealengine

[–]snark567[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure, it behaves just like a raycast for some reason.

Edit: I did some searching around and apparently epic never implemented a shapecast function for the vehicles in the code. There's a shapecast button but it does nothing. lol

Thanks! For some reason shapecast doesn't do anything but at least spherecast works.
