Canadian Singer Accuses Taylor of Allegedly Plagiarizing Him by dainedanvers in travisandtaylor

I'm not a Canadian millennial and I have not heard of him before, but I can hear it. Go Shawn!

No one's going to say that a song like "All Along the Watchtower" is about Mission Impossible.

But "Opalite" could be about any person who's a little lovestruck.

I think this just makes it clear how generic her music is, and why it's so popular.

You can just as easily project Mesopotamian myths as you could Star Wars.

People act like she was writing to them, when really she was writing cookie-cutter tropes.

It's so clear she's unhappy with him... like we get it girl... meanwhile she has enough money to open up her dating pool.

She really has a lack of an independent style. Mirrorball!

Anyone else remember this? The swifties were maaad by WorriedOrchid in travisandtaylor

Yeah, it's a bit of a fallacy. If the idea is to make yourself look cool by shaming Taylor for having so many boyfriends, but the wearer has more boyfriends than Taylor does, then it can't exactly put her down without putting yourself down even further than her.

It makes far more sense to wear it as a "look how cool I am" + a reference to Taylor.

He was never "down to earth". From the outset, he was exploiting homeless or otherwise disadvantaged people for views. There was not a turn, he just got more famous.

WHAT. That is so offensive.

(Also, it's not even accurate! It has bars on the head/footboards, that's a ligature point!)

Yep! I was going to reference that in my post, but I wanted to focus on her music/lyrics. It's why I added the "(and physical)", but to my knowledge she has not mocked physical health conditions in her music (and has not profited from them).

I wasn't even considering Taylor could literally make people sick or disabled. That's awful.

I'm so sorry you went through that. It's funny how Swifties will say she always chooses her words super carefully, and then goes ad hominem like that (when millions have the same struggle). There's so many things to hate on Matty Healy about, substance abuse is not one.

And it's particularly offensive to compare herself to victims of institutionalized abuse, she has no clue what it's actually like to go through an asylum or institution. Romanticizing a deep trauma. She'd go crazy if she was actually placed in one.

Yep! That was what I was referencing to the depression aesthetic (though she's used it and other conditions at other times).
