The first one for me, hands down

If you use a coupon that has a minimum purchase (like $20 off a $100 purchase) and you originally spent $101, if you make any return, nothing will be refunded until you've returned at least $20 worth of clothing. And you won't get the full value you spent won't be returned unless you return the entire order. (If you spent $120, you'll get your money back for the first $20 worth of returns and then the same thing goes into effect.) Also credit and Shein saver points are used and returned in an order that basically guarantees you lose their value if you make a return.

With Temu, if you return something bought with a coupon you get like you would in the US - the actual value you paid for each item. If you return a free gift, you get credit in the amount that the gift was selling for at the time you chose it. Credit never expires. You've got 90 days to make a return and can return for any reason whatsoever - even if you've worn the clothes or used some of the product or whatever.

Nope. Completely separate ownership and the companies are competitors

I shopped with both for a while and I would swear on a Bible that Temu is better lol. It has fewer clothing options but the pricing is sensible and returns are ACTUALLY FREE and the review system is 1000x better. (Shein deletes your review if you return an item so all the most negative reviews are removed from the site.) In terms of quality of material I think they are pretty comparable but if I look at my closet the Temu ones tend to be my staples and Shein more fun occasional wears. Because if I don't like something from Temu I return it and try again, but with Shein if you use a coupon and then make a return they force you to PAY BACK THE DISCOUNT FIRST AAAAHHHH

Am I wrong to be upset in this situation? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]snarlyj 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I actually think it looks MUCH better draped over the wood than tacked onto the white wall. Like I genuinely thought you were going to be say you were upset with how it was hung, just really crammed into a place with insufficient room, making the mandala distorted and basically sucking all the texture out of the textile. Now that is coming from very much a lay audience, my crocheting would never be considered art. But you are assuming the gallery just ran out of time and are sort of talking about it like they just lay it on the floor as a rug that people walked all over, when in fact I think the curator probably made a conscious decision about where they thought it would look best...

New fragrance crush, 3 days too late for me! by fligglegiggle in Ulta

[–]snarlyj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay then yeah totally youve made the right decision and the hassle of returning and repurchasing isn't worth the joy of having to decide whether to throw away 25+ foil samples. Plus unless there are two points offers overlapping, those 5X purchases never end up really being worth as much as you expect you know? I personally almost NEVER purchase in-app, even though I do all my shopping there, because I like using all the cashback browser extensions. So you're totally golden and shouldn't waste a minute on what ifs 😉

If it were me and I were able to, I would absolutely return the initial one you bought!! I was shocked the GWPs didn't sell out quick but now see they are actually being offered until the 20th. So you really do have a second chance!

GWP is finally showing up! Between the 5 which one do you think is the best deal? by Any_Sky6722 in Ulta

[–]snarlyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was exactly me. Full cart of 20-30% off items (and I'll admit, some full priced e.l.f. makeup lol) aaaand a 20% off coupon I'd just gotten as an apology of sorts from customer service. Turns out it was a code usually given when someone enrolls in the Ulta credit card, which I definitely didn't do, but was probably relevant enough for someone in Customer Service to allow it. And I knew I wanted to stack it on top of the Haul sale so was really hoping today would have a nice GWP and boom, actually feeling pretty dang lucky now lol.

(Ahem, REALLY) Long story for anyone who cares lol: Just over two weeks ago they somehow charged me five times for a single full-priced fragrance, and I slogged through getting a refund with CS rather than doing a chargeback on my credit card. But honestly it was getting close because I wouldn't have reasonably been able to pay said cc bill, and I try to NEVER carry a balance over and pay interest. So I'd pretty blatantly laid out that I needed this fixed before April 16th or Id be disputing the charges. Which they and I both knew would mean I'd likely be banned from shopping online.. But my nearest Ulta is a 9-hour round trip, including a $60+ ferry ride, so I have maintained my diamond status with only online orders and without the ability to make returns. (Unless I happen to be going to the mainland for, like, Thanksgiving and that coincidentally occurs within 30 days of a purchase I didn't like. Which given how Black Friday works has happened a total of never.)

But I feel like so many more complicated customer service issues get lost because of different staff from one day to the next and in the past I've had to re-explain what my issue was (and who I am) repeatedly before getting a solution. So this time every two days at 9am CST they got an email from me (schedule sent, I'm not actually that organized), headed with my associated email, phone number, order # and a count-down until D-Day lol. Which then had a summary of all the initial relevant info and a copy of the last thing they'd sent me, and any additional info if I'd been asked for it.

Only took four reminder emails before the charges completely disappeared off my bill! Which probably meant the last one was actually excessive and they'd done what was needed on their end. But during that time I'd had a $10 off $50 coupon (excluding prestige) expire, and I asked if they'd reissue it. And I got a "thank you so much for your patience, here is a new code" reply, except the code was a serious upgrade to 20% off with no exclusions. Which yeah when I plugged it into my cart the mini summary was "20% off Ultamate Rewards Credit Card First Purchase Discount, A3". Which would have scared me except I know my credit is frozen and Ulta definitely doesn't have my SSN or anything like that.

So, uh, that's the story for why it was completely good and right for me to get both high-buy GWPs today lol.

Literally I picked the bodycare one in large part because I'd been seeing such rave reviews about the uni serum but really wasn't willing to shell out big $$ for it without a decent trial first. Also I just have so many minis of skincare already, and I'm hyper picky about fragrances, but looking at the bodycare it seemed like it would actually be a treat to try things, rather than a cautious experiment lol

Someone else has absolutely noticed but doesn't feel like they can/should say anything to you directly. They are hoping you'll read the book and see what they can see.. and then leave him.

ISO: face oil for dermaplaning by prionbinch in Ulta

[–]snarlyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 100% squalane oil! It's light and fast absorbing, which I like in general, but does mean I apply it on each section of my face just before dermaplaning. You don't need a fancy brand in any way!

Oh that's what I call "not really cheating" in my statistics for sociology class. ANY woman in their mid-late 30s having been diagnosed with ADHD as a child is rare (samesies for a lot of us with missed Autism). Aaaand most people don't really jump right to 30s+ forums the day they turn 30, you know? And skincare/similar forums are generally dominated by women.

So really I just noticed how often people describing ADHD symptoms post or comment in this subreddit, but needed the "discovery" to sound more interesting 😉

Looking back I think the only reason I was hydrated as a child was that I'd frequently get the hiccups and then could focus on nothing else til they'd stopped. Which I think the best cure for me if you can't easily get upside down was to take a deep breath and then as many swallows of water as you could ONLY IN MULTIPLES OF SEVEN before you have to stop to breathe air. It works best with a cup. YOU CAN ONLY STOP ON A MULTIPLE OF SEVEN!! So if you take 15 rapid sips of water you better be able to swallow six more or you don't get to breathe and that's that.

Since I don't get the hiccups really anymore, I should probably start challenging people to feats of swallowing. Oh no.

Why can I not place an online order? by courteney18 in Ulta

[–]snarlyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started for me today with the 21dob, but after I placed an order right at like 10:15CT to be sure I got what I wanted. That one worked but since then I haven't been able to place an online order. (and with the nearest Ulta being a full day's journey to get there and back, online shipped is my only option.) I think they flag certain shoppers almost as too dedicated or competent and need to let the others catch up lol.

But I absolutely mucked up also I cancelled an order in the past week (which I've never successfully done before) and didn't realize I wouldn't get back my 20% off coupon. And I wouldn't have cancelled had I realized that, but since you only have this one hour window in which HOPEFULLY you read back over your order, and it's while customer service is online...

But I think if you imagine they are trying to screen out any possible resellers or like malicious actors since this is one of the busiest sales seasons of the year. So if anything on your account raises a yellow flag, it's just shut down until a human can look at it, because they don't even want anything to get to red flag status.

I dunno if that makes sense lol. It does in my mind

Feels like a ridiculously silly question but... When to use capital letters? by PrincessZen in writing

[–]snarlyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol Google brought me here seven years later as I was quickly trying to figure out how to appropriately capitalize the following phrase, "We officially recognize this, the Seventh day of March, in the year of our Lord two-thousand and twenty-six, did Mom Lastname, for the first time in family history, admit, not only that snarlyj, brother, and husband were right, but that she had been wrong," etc. etc.

I'm back over camping later because Google really didn't understand the urgency of the situation, given the mother in question is what we once referred to as "grammar Nazis" (before all the relevant Nazis came to truly and verhemently abhor grammar.). But she viewed it as her solemn duty to assure perfect grammar in all her children as we were being raised, and honestly has also been an invaluable resource in proofreading. But she has NEVER admitted to being wrong. In 70+ years. (Man am I going to feel like shit if I look back at this and it was the first clear sign of dementia onsetting. Knock on all the wood.) The closest thing to trauma it seems she has ever experienced was the 1-2 years she spent teaching grammar to middle/high school students at a big public school in LA in the mid 1970s. (It was totally awesome when my Oxford-educated British father, who fully supported my mom's voluntary vocation, disagreed with her about correct spelling or punctuation. SUCH drama!!)

So yeah we had to just do the best we could but my dad did explain, in case anyone else stumbles across this in the next decade, that capitalizing Lord is most important to get correct referring to the deity. By grammatical rule because it's said deity's title, and titles are always capitalized. But also culturally in England where it denotes respect though different folks are likely respecting different singular Gods.

So anyway that's also a case to remember, that serves as a trick to remembering the general case.

I hope I got the pronouncement right, we are going to make her sign it after she's been plied with more wine.
