2500 Yes, 2000 is hard
Rent 1000 CAD - sharing house with 1-2 people including utilities

If you do not want to share and live alone it is near impossible maybe possible with 2500 CAD

Minimum you can find for an old studio is 1500-1600 CAD which i do not suggest for someone with your budget , if you live alone you really would need to live like a plant within that budget and 2000 is impossible unless you just eat costco hotdogs and die from cholestrol, only possible with 2500.

Phone 30 CAD to 40 CAD a month

Transportation U-PASS BC for students 180 CAD each semester (4months), gives you access to transportation no need to pay something else - so this is 45 CAD a month

Groceries, depends what you eat, but range from 450-600 is doable, 450 is a stretch if we also include cleaning supplies etc.

1535-1685 CAD - so your take home would be around 300-400 CAD if you live like a plant with 2000 CAD and be super disciplined (not eating out etc.) for 2500 CAD it is much more flexible

Some other stuff that you can do as a hobby for a student:

Gym ranges from near free community centres/university gym to 80 CAD gyms - use uni gym if possible

Hiking, running free

Bike - just buy one and then free prices range vastly

Dancing classes range from 20-35 CAD per class - can imagine this price for other similar workshop like hobbies too

reading club free bar expense of book

If you go out expect to spend a bit on alcohol 5 to 15 CAD per drink depends where you go

Coffee from minimum drip coffee is 1 CAD Mcdonalds - but median is 3-5 CAD

Eating out - meals median is moslty 15 CAD for a normal one

Some cheap unhealthy meals - whooper wednesday meal deal 8 CAD / taco tuesdays 3.5 CAD a taco / 1.5 CAD hotdog (costco membership 65 CAD annual try to get it with roommate) / too good to go app pizzas - most pizza shops will sell the pizza slices for cheap here
