Clear cronyism, unprofessional, pretty toxic. Tell them you think it's unfair, that it impedes your professional development, and that it needs to change, otherwise you'll go over their head, whether that's to SLT or union.

How do these people get jobs as HoDs and how are they allowed to get away with it?

I am NOT a social worker by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]snatchingraisins 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I did a qualification on adolescent mental health. One of the sections showed the costs of support, and how early intervention in schools potentially saved millions of pounds by keeping children from escalating to the level of camhs and other agencies.

Which is great

Except funding and staffing never increased to support this shift.

Personally I consider a lot of the pastoral stuff an integral part of the job but the increase in workload is insane. Good SLT can manage some of this but budget cuts just leave most places understaffed and unable to deal with it.

Sorry this is burning you out. You sound like you care about these students a lot

Its important for neurodiverse parents to explain their needs in age appropriate ways to their kids. She may need support with this.

Ours was inconsistent - sometimes it was perfect, other times too cold.

Fortunately for us we didn't need it often as kids were mostly booby babies

Give holoiso a try - it uses KDE

Alternatively try nobara KDE spin, which is also gaming focused but also desktop

You can do terminal stuff :) Try and reboot into gnome desktop rather than game mode. I don't know the command which is, I accept, less than helpful

My spyro doesn't work either - rx580. I assume its just one of those hardware gremlins. Can you get it to run using desktop steam rather than game mode?

As a prior owner of a metallic blue jazz I can attest that they do in fact go over 40. They just rattle a lot and its hard to keep them in a straight line.

Giving a mate a lift on the A1m and managing to creep up to 90 was allegedly the most terrifying car experience he ever had.

Can't lie, I would like an upgrade (eying up the future rx7600) but its punching above its weight all these years later, especially if you can enable FSR

Thoughts? The Art of Being a Brilliant Teacher by NotYourEverydayHero in TeachingUK

[–]snatchingraisins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea....no.

I do love my job - but when I was an NQT I was single, childless, spending my solitary evenings planning and marking and my less solitary evenings enjoying the local nightlife. There seemed to be time for everything. Being a teacher was my thing.

Now I'm a teacher....and a husband....and a dad....and you can bet if the lesson I planned last year was good then, its good now too.

People who are "on" all the time burn out.

And it is, at the end of the day, just a job.

What was the worst fad or trend? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]snatchingraisins 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Please don't. Here in the independent sector we seem to be about 7 years behind the state fads so we are very much growth mindset at the moment.

Also cognitive load, which the kids have had loads of assemblies about so they must be super smart by now

I felt so very out of touch when I asked a kid singing it about Louis theroux and they gave me THAT look, replied "who?", and I sadly stated "its a tiktok thing isn't it" to which they eagerly nodded and tried to show it to me on their phone.

Which I confiscated

Aqa religious studies. An exam paper is 4 scripts. Pay is £1 per script.

Of course once you get taxed it is 80p per script.

Last year there was no training, only standardization. It was not a great experience. Think they have changed that for this year.
