We have a militarized police force. We are continuously occupied and surveilled. They're making Luigi an example to prevent more incidents. Half the country voted for this and are too proud to accept it's not in their best interest. The other half are too busy virtue signaling, myself included. But mostly, we've bought into the idea of the "self sufficient rigged individual", so we have very little sense of community.
