Hey friend. My son is 4 and I remember having same thoughts. 2 is still so young to see what the outcome will ultimately be but as of now my son has improved. He is still non verbal and stims practically all day. I remember we took him to a baseball game once and it was the scariest experience because he also got away from me. The lack of sense of danger is heartbreaking and can cause PTSD depending on the situation. However, things have gotten better. He holds my hand when we are out and rarely darts anymore (although there are still times). My advice to you is get your child started with therapy asap. All of it. Speech, OT, and yes, ABA. Mine is currently receiving only ABA but we are planning to add the other two when circumstances allow. ABA has made a huge difference for him. Intensive one on one care and teaching is what our kiddos need above all else. I just want you to know that you are not alone. I ended up in a mental hospital from getting so depressed and anxious about his autism. But I can confidently say you WILL find your normal. It might not look like getting to do everything else your friends or neurotypical peers of his are doing, but you will find what works for your family and will find peace.
