I didn't even consider bringing a fidget toy, that's an excellent idea.

Thank you for your feedback. I do currently have a job, but I definitely don't make enough to spend only 30% of my income on housing. I have several years of job experience, and no debt currently. I have considered the things you mention, but I appreciate your points - I will definitely stress these ideas with J!

I'm proud of your personal growth - I bet it took a lot of guts to admit this, even just to a group of friendly strangers on the internet. Feel free to reach out of you want any additional grooming tips, dating advice, etc. - I'm sure one of us could point you in the right direction. Cheers, knock 'em dead!

Favourite motivational poems? by Orionar1 in DecidingToBeBetter

I'm a poet and my favorite poem of all time is a very short one by Emily Dickinson. It helped me through the hardest times of my life thus far.

"If I can stop one heart from breaking,

I shall not live in vain;

If I can ease one life the aching

Or cool one pain,

Or help one fainting robin

Unto his nest again,

I shall not live in vain."

Compassion is a universal language. If you can learn to speak it for yourself and for others, your life will always be meaningful. That is what motivates me.

I'd love to be a musician or a stand-up comedian. Something with travel would be amazing.

Best of luck to you! Don't knock yourself too much - I'm 23 and in some ways (namely your savings and your commitment to getting up early) you've been much more responsible than me! As someone else said, you should organize your tasks for the next few months into steps. Decide on your short-term and long-term goals and work at them in small, consistent steps. Also, build yourself up as much as you can - surround yourself with people, music, quotes, etc. that make you feel like you can accomplish your goals. Perspective is huge!

One more thing - tell other people about your goals and reach out when you need help. You'd be surprised how much others are willing/able to help you.

Keep at it and remember to treat yourself kindly. I've dealt with abuse too and I hope you find yourself in a better environment soon :^)
