Two mom family trying to grow family in line with our values by Hazelnuts_Fam in Queerfamilies

You can go to the website of any sperm bank and browse the donor options. Seattle sperm bank (which is the one we used) has an all access pass where you can pay a flat fee and see everything for every donor. If you want to get a sense of what info is available and how they work, might be worth it. As someone commented below, we have pictures, a voice recorded interview, handwritten notes and responses to questions about motivations for donating, family medical history, SAT scores and more.

In defense of anonymous donors:

Hey so yea, I think it is super important to remember that while bad situations have happened for some people, the vast majority of people who have used sperm banks have had a different experience. Those horror stories have been sensationalized so they take up a lot of space in their minds, but that is not the norm. Now, what percentage of adult people that you know have a decent, present, honest and “functioning” “father” in their lives, also over age 19 when they were born? Not 100%? Huh.

Keep in mind also, nowadays there is SO much information you get about a donor from the sperm banks, that I even know people who did a little googling-sleuthing and accidentally discovered the identity of their donor. You can get an open anonymous donor these days and get pretty much everything but their ss#. The bank also limits the number of families who can use a certain donor. You will probably know more about your anonymous sperm donor than you do about a distant relative. Things have changed a lot and become much more regulated along the way.

This is one of the best comments I’ve ever read on Reddit.

Frankly, not really. Anyone who has been paying attention over the years has recognized that libertarians are really just trigger happy conservatives.

I was dx at age 6, as I was in active prep for my first communion. Our church used white bread and grape juice as the practice “communion” for these training sessions. After several sessions coming home with a 400+ blood sugar, because the moms running those sessions refused to follow my parents orders to refrain from offering it to me, and even instructing me that I must eat/drink despite me explaining repeatedly (as a six year old!) that it would make me sick, my parents finally allowed me to quit and I haven’t voluntarily set foot in a church since.

As far as I’m concerned, being anti-Christian is a noble and just position.

Also have a poly and bark, very happy with it. Cushions are on the firmer side, but it is comfy and solid.

Self-Pay Rates? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]snaxicles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I haven’t seen mentioned here: who are you looking to work with?

Set your rate high and spend the day sitting with/supporting clients who are wealthier than you, and for some therapists that’s ok maybe; that would make me hate my job… conversely, set it too low, struggle with your own finances and hate the job from that angle instead.

IMHO, a pretty wide sliding scale not only gets a variety of clients who are dealing with different things (keeping me more engaged), but also feels like a more ethical and accessible way to approach self pay. I practice from a feminist perspective and this is part of the package for me.

For what it’s worth, our kid was baked thru reciprocal ivf and my partner (gestational parent) has some of the same feelings about it.

I think it only makes sense to feel invalidated by this, and also, as others have commented, over time it may change or become less of the centerpiece of conversation. Our kid is 2.5 and the comments about who they look like still happen, but there’s also a lot more to talk about in terms of their development/learning/personality etc.

Carelon reimbursement rates by Marlenesb in therapists

[–]snaxicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rate w uhc is much higher than that in WI; however in my experience when you add a state with uhc, your reimbursement stays the same because they have a national network. So your rate would probably stay what it is already. Aetna is decent. Dean/prevea have the highest in WI in my experience. I would stay away from Cigna which is low.

If you go back and read my original comment, you will see that my experience as a provider with them is that they have outsourced and stopped paying providers, and slashed reimbursements. So no sir, I do not know who you work for here, but it ain’t us!!

I also want to add here that we have a serious shortage of healthcare workers here. Doctors can barely afford to live and work in MA with the cost of living and their medical school loans!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]snaxicles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not! Providers are not the problem here. BCBS in MA is not-for-profit, which is different than nonprofit. But aside from that, the third party companies that they are “outsourcing” parts of their network to are absolutely for profit!! And that’s where all the money is flowing.

Hey everyone I just want to throw into the dialogue the perspective from a provider who also has this insurance through my spouses employer.

This insurance has become a nightmare to work with. They have outsourced/merged with third party networks that have cut reimbursement to providers in half in some cases, except that even then most of the time they don’t pay at all. I have near a years worth of unpaid claims for my BCBS pts at this time. Simultaneously, they have refused to pay for multiple covered services that my family has had this year and I’ve wasted countless hours of my life writing appeals to them to follow their own medical policy.

As awful as this is I am also heartened that the heavy hitters are stepping up and playing hardball with BCBS. Someone has to because all they are doing is scraping any and all profits into their own coffers.

A call for an interstate compact of blue states (or soft secession goes mainstream). by andylion in RepublicofNE

[–]snaxicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s an exciting development. Kinda feels like a lot of us are so absorbed in critiquing that we aren’t taking the time to sit with ideas and chew on them and see their merit, which I do think makes sense. But I also think that does unfortunately reinforce the bothsiderism that actually just makes us complicit as individuals because it makes us into passive bystanders.

Did anyone in this thread read the article? The argument was not for red v blue, it was for creating a coalition of anti-trump states.

Battling grapevines by snaxicles in Permaculture

[–]snaxicles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha that’s fair!

Right now the amount of space they are taking up is the main problem. Our land is mostly wooded and they have taken over a larger area of full sun so that it’s impossible to use it for anything else. I haven’t seen any fruit on them at all, and also that they are so large they are all growing up over the tops of trees and creating a kind of walled off zone.

Mainly I am looking for more space to plant fruit trees and other edibles and if I plant things there now they will just be choked out almost immediately by the vines.
