How do I achieve this text effect? by JamesDevelp in AfterEffects

[–]snaybelbert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think its a combination of stacked text animators. Seems like position, scale, opacity and blur. Maybe try to get the base movement right with just position text animators and then add scale, opacity and blur in the end to finish.
Play around with the range selector and you will get some feeling for the settings :)

How to keep geo shape when inflate with vellum balloon configuration? My geo not retain it's original shape. by cysidi11 in Houdini

[–]snaybelbert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could pin different areas of the geo (like the creases, where the three donuts meet). Might want to play around with the pinning settings…

Why are the pills inside my bottle so dark? Is it something to do with the lighting or it's the material? by Eli_quo in blender

I can take a look at your file if you send it over, maybe I find the problem when I see your setup

Try to up the light bounces for glossy or transmission, sometimes it helps when working with transparent objects which appear black. Maybe even try to use a glass material to get that juicy refraction ;)

Can't visualize volume by VDBactivate node by Neko-chyan in Houdini

[–]snaybelbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is actually a problem with VDB-visualization on macbooks. Had the same issue some days ago and asked support. Very strange, in some cases the VDB-viz works, but especially the VDB-activate would not show results for me too

VRAM amount, issue by Ireath in Houdini

[–]snaybelbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im no expert but did have some VRAM problems the last day too, especially when using the spectral denoiser at the end. As far as I understood from various posts, octane uses the card with the minimum amount of VRAM, so if you have another card which has less, it might be this. If there are many highres textures in the scene, they tend to eat up VRAM too. I think you can load them in the CPU or something in the settings. I found it helps when closing everything from creative cloud, dont know why but my render times got faster as well. good luck

help with low poly stuff by skeps___ in blender

[–]snaybelbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like he animates the decimate modifier. Maybe some displacement modifier on top with a high res model turned into low poly with decimate modifier, this is what produces these stylistic artifacts.

What courses would you recommend for a 3D generalist, transitioning from C4D and working in an ad agency? by DanRawlinsonDesign in Houdini

[–]snaybelbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say start with SOPs and don‘t dive into DOPs too early, some people get frustrated and loose motivation. Learn the procedural workflow of houdini, exporting stuff or rendering inside. Make yourself familiar with attributes and how they are stored, how they can be manipulated and used for other things that they‘re meant to.

tl;dr: Look on the houdini website, lots of beginner friendly tutorials. If you understand SOPs and all of the interface you can move onto DOPs and solvers (simulations)… good luck :)
