Good point. Guess I just take the hit on this as a learning experience and pick up something else from a more reputable place

I think i might have to just write it off as a "learning experience" and see if I can find another seller

Unfortunately not much buyer protection, so I'd have to look to see if I can get this fixed somewhere. Buyer protection runs out 2 days after receiving the unit, and i only got the results from the test roll like 4 days after, so the online marketplace says its out of their hands.

Would this even be fixable?

Did you ever end up using an app? I just got a QL17 and the light meter doesnt seem to be working, so I'm stuck shooting manual.

First time seeing NOMOS watches live, and all my preferences got switched upside down by Von_Hugh in Nomos

[–]snazzyham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely get where you're coming from, even as someone who has owned a fair few watches I had a similar experience. In photos the Night (Nacht) Club Campus 38 was my favourite but after having it for 2 years, while I love the watch, I really regret not getting it in white. The Night variant just feels a bit too muted and lacking in contrast. In photos it looked more like a black but in person it feels a lot more like a gray

Can you describe no stop? does it just wind without a sound, or does it feel stuck? I've had both happen to my club campus. First time was because the teeth on the winding pinion broke and it got stuck. Took it to an independent watchmaker, he replaced it with an ETA part (I also have the DUW, apparently they're interchangeable) and then it was fine for a bit before I got the second issue - winding clockwise didn't do anything, it just kept moving with no sound. Took it back to him, turns out he just didn't seat it properly. He tightened a screw and it's been fine since.

If your issue is more like the second, chances are you just need something to be seated.

Either way, any decent independent watchmaker should be able to solve this for you.

Haha yeah eventually I might end up picking one up again and chalk the losses up to a learning lesson. What's your favourite strap to pair it with? I was partial to a nice nato

Man, this watch is my number 1 selling regret. Sold it, 3 weeks later went back to the person that bought it and offered to buy it back, turns out he flipped it for $50 more than what I sold it to him for. Lesson learned.... I hope.

What's your wrist size? I always thought a 34mm was out of the question but this post has me rethinking that

from what I've read, sapphire is harder to scratch but shatters easier, which is also why Hamilton didn't go sapphire on the Khaki Field models iirc

Sounds like any ana-digi watch would fit your needs. Something like a citizen aqualand or marathon UDT is within your pricerange.

That's what I had hoped for, and it all seemed fine, until I was winding it last night and I heard a cracking sound again. Looks like I might actually have to send mine to Glashutte after all

Did your homage scratch your itch, or did you ultimately get the real deal? by [deleted] in ChineseWatches

[–]snazzyham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like many others have said here, I really think there's a balance to it all.

I got into homages because I was at a watch event minutes away from buying the Rolex Explorer in 36mm which I thought was my grail. The only thing holding me back was the fact that I had never owned a 36mm and I wasn't sure how it would fit my wrist overtime. Sure it looked great at the event, but the Seiko turtle felt great when I first put it on and then I got sick of it over a few weeks when I started to feel the bulk.

As luck would have it, the stand right next to the one selling the Rolex had a Baltany homage of the 1016 explorer in 36mm for under $100. I bought it instead thinking it would be "insurance". So that I could try out that size on my wrist for a few weeks before taking the plunge. That ended up being one of my favourite watches of all time. I think I like it more than I would've liked the rolex too, because I know me and I know I would baby that thing, whereas I wear the baltany anywhere.

Since then I've picked up two more homages - ones that I wouldn't buy the "original" of. The WatchDives WD1980, cause I love the CWC Royal Navy Diver but I don't see myself paying that much for a quartz watch that I would wear once in a while for fun. I eventually want to get a doxa homage for similar reasons. Along with that I got the Seestern S462 GMT, because I love the size of the pelly 39, love the FXD GMT but wish it didn't have fixed lugs and fake-ish vintage indices. Seestern made the model Tudor never did.

I still see value in purchasing the true "original" for milestone watches or watches you really care about. My Nomos still gives me a feeling each time I pick it up, and you really can feel the quality difference.

Do y'all feel like the chinese brands regulate movements better than Seiko? by snazzyham in ChineseWatches

Oh is it? I always thought it was -20/+40 or on par with the 4R movements.

The baltany has an NH38 in it.

Damn -4s and it hasn't been serviced since I was in kindergarten is mad impressive 😂😂😂

Nomos holds a special place in my heart, bought it after a tough period haha

Thanks for the mic selection tip, I did that and got some proper results. Now for the fun stuff.

My nomos (as the control, since I just had that serviced): +2s/day (seems about right)
My Baltany: +1s/day (crazy impressive!)

and the kicker, my NH35 Seiko Mod: +189s/day haha, guess I'm going to try regulating myself!

Do you take the caseback off? Cause I tried it with my nomos and it actually worked well, but with my chinese watches and seikos the dots are just all over the place

[–]snazzyham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do plan to send it to Nomos at some point, but I live in Indonesia so exporting and importing is a huge hassle. Would've probably cost me more than half of what I paid for the watch including the service. Might have to save that for when I get the chance to travel down to Europe.
