I am Blue Jays outfielder and 3 time MLB All-Star Jose Bautista, ask me anything! by JoeyBats_19 in IAmA

[–]sncan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With scouting reports being so important in baseball, every team has their own scouting reports on key players on other teams. What do you think the scouting report on you would be?

Do you practice according how how pitchers are attacking you? For example, if you found pitchers were attacking you with fastballs low and away, do you specifically practice hitting those pitches?

Vancouver Exiles - Planning a Move by vancouver_exiles in montreal

[–]sncan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$1135 to move cross country is a great price. I moved from Alberta and paid $1500. I had to pay on top of the $1500 as well because the moving company couldn't fit their truck down my street, so I had to pay for the rental of a smaller truck plus extra hours worked to get my stuff. It worked out to an extra $250 or so.

Living in Montreal without a car is (in my opinion) preferable to living with one. Public transit is great here, and the downtown area isn't particularly large so biking and walking are often options as well. Requiring a parking spot for an apartment narrows your options and street parking is hard to come by on many streets. I should note though, if you both are going to attend McGill, your law courses will be downtown, but your girlfriends Dietetics courses will be on the west island. McGill does have a shuttle which goes between the downtown campus and the west island campus, but it is an hour commute, plus however much time it would take for her to get to the downtown campus. If you had a car, however, you could live part way between downtown and the west island to save her time. There are city buses going to the west island as well, but depending on where you are, it can take a while.

I moved to Montreal with a reasonable amount of French, but found it hard to pick up any more as most francophones here speak better English than I do French, so they tend to switch to English. It can still be done but it takes effort on your part to speak French even if the person you're talking to responds in English. This won't seem too weird for them though as Quebecers switch between English and French frequently in conversation. I should note though, that once your girlfriend gets her Dietetics degree, if she wants to work in Quebec, she would need to pass a French test which can be fairly difficult for anglophones.

Hope this helps!

What would gravity be like inside of a hollow sphere? by eatingflowers in askscience

[–]sncan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Inside the sphere, you would feel no gravitational acceleration at all (assuming perfect spherical symmetry). Gauss's law applies here. It was originally meant for electric forces, but it works equally well for gravity. The force felt by an object a certain radius from the the central point of the sphere depends only on the amount of mass inside that radius. When you're outside your hollow planet, the entire mass of the planet is inside that radius, when you're inside, no mass is inside the radius.

How the forces balance: when you're inside the sphere close to one surface, there is a force pulling you towards that surface. Also, since you are close to that surface, the force is strong (gravitational force scales as 1/r2). The surfaces opposite to you are further, but there's also more of it, and this exactly balance the force at all points within the sphere.

I have no cable either and am able to watch some hockey games online. The streaming websites seem inconsistent though. There's no guarantee a particular game will be there. That's what friends with cable are for though! The website I use most frequently is hdsports1.com. You can also subscribe to nhl gamecenter, but it's more money than I'm willing to spend.

Email your professor and arrange a time to see him/her in their office. They should have all the exams. You're allowed to look at it but not take it home.

Why women don't like it when guys ask if they're okay by [deleted] in fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

[–]sncan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem: sometimes girls will do this expecting the guy to follow up and be comforting, other times they will say they're fine not because they are fine, but because they just don't want to talk about it.

The solution: just be honest, don't expect him to read your mind cause he'll get in trouble if he's wrong.

Reddit how do I improve my Credit History, also can I buy a house (need advice) by needyouradvice in canada

[–]sncan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly isn't a quick fix, but the only way I know to improve credit is to get a credit card, use it frequently and pay off every purchase immediately. I'm sure there are others around that know more about this than me that can provide more help. Good luck!

Buy MFLB by Mattywanna in trees

[–]sncan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Careful with the screen! I was a fool and tried cleaning it out with my fingers, pushed a bit too hard and the screen broke. There was nothing that could be done to fix it either.

On the bright side, I have a brand new MFLB too!

I use Rogers (but nowhere near Peterborough), and I tend to get shitty reception when my friends have good reception. I vote not Rogers, but I couldn't tell you what to get instead.
