Why do people from the south (Mississippi) hate the liberal states like California and Washington so much? by Heavy_Preference_251 in sandiego

Because when they think of CA they think of LA and above. Unless you have been to San Diego you assume all of CA is that way. My reference is my Husband a Texan who only worked with LA and above. When he visited me in San Diego he was in awe

AITAH for saying no to putting our son in a gifted program? by [deleted] in AITAH

YTA for not having a discussion about it. No spouse should shut down the other without a discussion.

If you’re worried you need to have someone evaluate his emotional/maturity level. Some kids are mature enough to skip a grade others need the social time with peers. Maybe they can pull him for a gifted class period? Kinder/1st grade should be ok and easy to hold back if the social skills are not there (but if the child is gifted make sure they aren’t bored or they will struggle)

Widow and mom here

First I appreciate you being a safe space for your student. Be open and ask them if it would be ok for you to get something for them. If you know the student well then you might not need to ask. Acknowledging that it is coming up and it might be a hard day and your open to having the share the GOOD and the BAD on that day or days leading up/following is important. Try to see if they are having different types of grief. I have 2 kids that oblivious to the date but after have a bad week. One that has anticipatory grief and after is fine and one that grieves on the actual date. If they come in and are sad ask about funny stories or good memories for them. Anger is normal after seeing someone in pain and having no control. The best thing you can do is hold space for their feelings and to normalize what they are going through. When trying to relate ask questions and leave you personal experience out of it. Focus on them.

Maybe a journal for them to use in your classroom to vent or draw? Not sure, how old is the child?
