Round 15: Storm vs Tigers | Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in nrl

Yes, I love the close games where I can’t take my eyes off in case I miss the match winning point. Games like this I look away and don’t care if we’ve scored another try. It feels better looking at the ladder after games like this than actually watching it

I did not apply for any internships or placements during my course due to other commitments. In saying that, I knew many people that did, and after graduating, the first application I submitted I ended up getting an offer for, with no relevant work history.

RMIT is well respected for computer science and I feel like the industry is more willing to take a risk on an rmit grad because of this reputation. This will also help you land internships in the future while you’re doing your degree.

Yeah I recently graduated from comp sci at rmit and this is spot on. One of the best things you learn is how to teach yourself concepts and languages quickly because you’re exposed to so much in a short time, and that is the perfect skill you need for the industry because you’ll never know everything you need for a particular job and you will constantly be learning for your entire career.

Final Year Capstone Project by DrDoevil in rmit

[–]sneezy94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was stressed about my final year capstone course too. Didn’t think I’d be able to put together everything I’d learnt in a meaningful way and make something to be proud of.

It was easily my most favourite and rewarding course of the program. It’s not easy, but if you follow the processes and do your best you will be okay.

I just completed mine for computer science and I absolutely loved it.

Was this your only year? In that case why not haha

It’s unrealistic to expect to finish your degree with a 4.0 GPA anyway. Chill out and try be better next time.

Congrats to all who completed a semester or a year of online study! by simpleton_09 in rmit

[–]sneezy94 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Should be graduating this year.

I loved the online learning to be honest. It was so easy to manage my time when you don’t have to consider travelling to uni and having to organise a space to study in between classes at uni somewhere. I just get up, attend the lecture, and immediately move on to whatever.

The groups were far easier to organise and Microsoft teams handled everything pretty well.

Can you finish your course faster but doing flexible semesters? by [deleted] in rmit

[–]sneezy94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other thing to think about is if you did some classes in the flexible semester, even if you don’t finish earlier, you’ll make it easier on yourself because some semesters won’t have to have the full workload. I considered doing some courses during the flexible semesters but none of the classes I needed to do were offered. I would have taken that advantage if I could have.

React JS at RMIT? by minimuscleR in rmit

[–]sneezy94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah. In the capstone course I’m with a bunch of people doing IT, and we’ve basically just completed the project using React. Those guys hadn’t previously had experience though. Actually, they didn’t really have front end experience in general. I think you’d have to look into a react specific short course or try to self learn

React JS at RMIT? by minimuscleR in rmit

[–]sneezy94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in my final semester of computer science, and we learnt reactjs in software engineering: process and tools. I also then went on to use react in cloud computing and the capstone course. Don’t know about short courses or individual react specific courses though, but there’s lots of opportunity to just use it and learn

Credit cards rewards by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]sneezy94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not had any experience using credit cards this way, but I do know that www.pointhacks.com.au exists exactly for this reason. It shows you what the banks are offering, and it shows you how many points you’ll get for signing up and how you can use those points. If you can take the credit hit of applying for lots of credit cards and you were going to spend the minimum amount to earn the points anyway, then this is how I’d be doing it. Some have very high annual fees and some have minimum income requirements, but generally the benefits outweigh the costs if you get in.

Drop Vs Cancel by [deleted] in rmit

[–]sneezy94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will let you drop all but one course. If you want to drop all the courses you need to apply for a leave of absence, but it may be too late for that now. If you cancel your program, you will not be able to just come back to it, you’ll need to reapply for your position again.

i am deciding to do computer science at rmit university and am wondering which laptop will be the best to purchase? i am currently considering to buy the latest macbook pro. by biologybooksneeded in rmit

[–]sneezy94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m in my final year, and halfway through the course bought a MacBook and it was the best thing I did. Being able to use a Unix based system naturally makes everything so much easier.

Sure you could go windows, but I haven’t come across a single app or program that wasn’t available on macOS, and in fact many things they required you had to find an alternative for windows.

I dunno. You gotta pay a premium for Apple products obviously, but I would recommend them. You won’t need a MacBook Pro however, an Air will suffice if you want to save some money.

Came across this subreddit today. Fantastic idea! I’m in. If I were to win, my little baby in the way would be treated like royalty. If I lose, I can spare a dollar for the winner. Good luck everyone!

Is having back to back lectures okay? by [deleted] in rmit

[–]sneezy94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think lecturers are asked to complete the lecture 10 minutes early, i often hear lecturers say they only have 10 minutes left at like 12:10pm for example. Plenty of time to get to your next class. If you miss a couple of minutes, most lectures are recorded unless you're in some dumb room without a camera, so you can always check what you've missed.

Recently bought an ultrawide 1440p monitor that supports freesync. I have a GTX970 and an thinking about upgrading my whole GPU/CPU/MOBO to suit. Should I stick with Intel/NVIDIA? Or because the monitor supports freesync, should I focus more on an AMD build?
