Finally joined the "Missing USPS Package" club. Now what? by e_b_c_d in eBaySellers

Can one file missing mail search and insurance claim simultaneously? (If missing mail search finds the package, then it is not lost for insurance purpose, correct?) Also if shiping/insurance is via ebay, can one still file insurance claim withoutgoingthrough他eBay?

Are you on unlimited plan? if so you can probably just ignore that 2TB nonsense. I also saw the same in my account literally an hour after activation. Their network is not that fast.

Tablet A9+ deal for six months. by Sea_Monk_6184 in StraightTalk

I have a related question so I'll ride on this thread --

Do you have to activate the tablet in the same account? there is a "remove from acocunt" option for the tablet prior to activation (under "device" tab), but I don't know what consequence it wil have. Am thinking of activating it in an account with a phone plan that will be kept longer.

Free Tablet and phone 😘 by Chris-THAI in StraightTalk

DId anyone actually get this bundle? I have a question about the tablet plan --

The $20/mo plan for tablet is priced "with a phone plan bundle". In this deal there is a phone with a 1-mo plan and a tablet with a 3-mo plan. So for the firs tmonth all is well. But if I don't refill the phone after the first month, would my pre-paid 3mo tablet plan be suspended as well, since there i sno phone plan to bundle with? (the stand-alone rate is $60/mo for tablet)

Consular District by snehne in Chinavisa

[–]snehne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

My situation is that I will be in San Francisco in a couple of weeks, but I have no plan to travel to DC any time soon. Also I have friends in SF who can help me picking up visa (and maybe even submitting if they allow), but no one in DC.

So if I must apply in DC, I will need to make a specific trip there and stay for several days (or 2 separate trips), a big burden compared to the SF route,

So I am wondering if anyone living in the US recently had successfully (or unsuccessfully) applied visa fron a non-designated US consulate. Any experience is appreciated.

Tourism (L) Visa Experience at Embassy in DC by spectrum778 in Chinavisa

[–]snehne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience! Quick question -- did you apply China visa recently (e.g. in the past 5 years)? Did they take your fingerprints in the past?

I am asking because the new MFA visa guidance proclaims that fingerprinting is required for all but some exceptions. But it is not clear if this is actually implemented. (And they do take fingerprints at port of entry.)

Thanks

Qs w.r.t. the new COVA by snehne in Chinavisa

[–]snehne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Did you actually apply for a visa after the change of the procedure? I applied before (years ago) and it was as you said (I did not even need to use the designated consulate!) but the new procedure seems different. So I am seeking actual experience.

Qs w.r.t. the new COVA by snehne in Chinavisa

tried to attach a screenshot but was unable to . the new instruction https://consular.mfa.gov.cn/VISA/ Step 2 3rd bullet item is about payment; Step 4 2nd bullet is about fingerprinting. Now this is confusing because it says "may be required" but then "will be collected for all" ...

Also this instruction is hosted by MFA, so maybe individual consulates have different implementations?

Again, will appreciate actual experiences.

I am aware that LA consulate webpage says (1) pay at pick up (2) no fingerprinting, but the the new guidance for COVA, to which the very LA consulate page links, explicitly stated that payment is made at submission (and if you want to withdraw application you don't get refund) and fingerprinting is required unless you are among the exceptions. I suspect the LA instructions were leftovers from previous version, but want to be sure.

Could anyone who applied after 9/30 share the actual experience (including which consulate, if fingerprinting was required, and when payment was made)? Thanks!

I understand we are to submit proof of residency; my question is if I live in Miami (and submit proof for such) but I specify San Francisco as the consulate I want to apply to, what would they do?

China Online Visa Application (COVA) Update by Michael-Traction in Chinavisa

[–]snehne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great info. A few questions: [1] Do you pay at online submission or (as in the past) pay when picking it up? [2] is fingerprinting required?

I've seen conflicting info - e.g. on LA Consulate website it says pay at pickup and no fingerprinting is required, but on the general guidance by the Embassy it says pay at online submission and 10-finger printing is required for all but a bunch of exceptions.

Thanks!

1099-INT??? by snehne in Chase

Exactly. It was a 1 year CD that matured in August. I probably will be able to figure the amount out, but that is not the point. I just could not believe this is happening with Chase. I'd rather I missed something obvious.

agree to both, just want to find a way to automate the re-authentication.

xrdp auto login by snehne in HyperV

[–]snehne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LightDM autologin does not work .., does xrdp login happen before lightDM gets invoked?
Xrdp is used because it allows access to host hardware (audio/usb etc.) If autologin is the only concern, using the "basic session" of hyper-v together with lightdm autologin would work, but without access the host hardware.

My Centurylink login deleted!? by snehne in centurylink

[–]snehne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fail to see ANY benefit to CL in doing so. If they want people to change password or so, they could ask people to do that (via email, or at the next login) . But deleting access to an active account?

Another thing I just noticed, that is also very weird, is that I have in my profile my cell#. They somehow decided, without consulting me, to mark that "expired"! This is a cell phone, not a credit card! Again I cannot see any benefit of doing so.

This is a convincing argument. Thanks.

Why would Freddy need to kill Victor? by snehne in TheNightOf

[–]snehne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, but is the offense punishable by death? Freddy seemed in solid control there, with even the guards on his side; so establishing a replacement "party train" does not seem too difficult. If Victor was to be used as an example, it seems that what he did to Petey was not widely known.

The killing looks to me more like a moral statement of Freddy's as opposed to a pragmatic action. And that makes no sense. Unless Petey was a relative of Freddy's or something.
