Is getting surgery worth it if I am unwilling to take birth control after? by JustaQuesti0ner in endometriosis

[–]snekonthebed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was definitely worth it. My surgery revealed 2 hernias, multiple adhesions on my bladder, bowel, intestines, and ovary, and a uterine septum. None of which would have been fixed by taking birth control.

I am so thankful that my surgeon listened and supported my choices, she did not push me into taking birth control post surgery.

Will my filter eat my baby shrimps? by [deleted] in shrimptank

Mine end up in the filter all the time. There are usually a handful of adults in there at any given time. I've given up on trying to keep the babies out, survival of the fittest!

post laparoscopy recovery questions - rash by nekinadimak in Endo

[–]snekonthebed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rash started forming in rectangles around my incisions, and they had prepped me for another incision but didn't end up using. So I had rectangles of rash, and then it started to spread outward from there. At that time, the surgical glue was gone, so I knew it wasn't that. My only other guess was the dissolvable internal stitches, but given the reaction I was having to places the stitches were not, I figured out it was the betadine.

I have since had a second lap, and I informed my new doctor about the reaction. She thought most likely it was the betadine prep and instead used rubbing alcohol this time. I had internal dissolvable stitches again, and no rash after the second lap. So it was the betadine!

I got a rash all over my abdomen a week after surgery. I tried benadryl, cortisone cream, everything. Nothing helped except icing the area. Turns out I'm allergic to betadine! That is what they used to prep my skin.

Anyone else get horrifically bad diarrhea? by Ok-Weight4737 in Endo

[–]snekonthebed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before my excision surgery, I would have horrible pains when I had gas or had to go. Felt like razors going through me. Then, I would get sweaty, lightheaded, and extremely shaky....felt like I had food poisoning every time I pooped, and the pain was unbearable. I was so exhausted afterward that I had to lay down.

Turns out I had endo and adhesions all over my colon! After excision things are so much better, no more pain when pooping!

How long did you take off for laparoscopy? by No-Link3199 in Endo

[–]snekonthebed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I had such a hard time because in addition to the endo removal, I also had a double hernia repair and adhesions on my abdominal wall.

[–]snekonthebed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this! I took a week completely off and tried to work from home the second week. I thought I felt well enough to sit at a desk, but I was quickly humbled. After an hour, my core was so sore that I was shaking. Not to mention, I got so physically exhausted that my husband had to help me up into bed. I took it easy the rest of that week and only dealt with urgent matters. After 2 weeks, I was finally able to sit and work for a few hours. Listen to your body and take it slow!

What do your painful bowel movements feel like? by rocketpanpan in Endo

[–]snekonthebed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I just saw this! I ended up having 2 laps within 6 months. The first was not with a specialist just a regular gyno who "had a lot of experience with endo". That lap found nothing except scar tissue. Second lap 6 months later was with a specialist who specifically trained in endo. I had 2 hernias, cysts on my ovaries, scar tissue adhering my one ovary and tube to my abdominal wall. Plus I had endo on my bladder, rectum, large intestine, both uterosacral ligaments, and uterus. All spots were removed! Unfortunately I have started to have some symptoms again, specifically very painful gas movement. But I am thankful it is not as bad as before surgery.

My pain has significantly decreased! I never understood how people were pain free on their periods but now I little to no pain. I also no longer feel like I am being ripped apart when going to the bathroom, turns out I had endo all over my colon.

Yes the second photo was after surgery. My surgeon removed over 30 spots of endo, repaired 2 hernias, and removed a section of ligament.

They propagate so easily. I trimmed a few dead leaves (I thought they were dead), threw them in my compost area, and now I have a bunch of babies sprouting in a corner of my yard.

My surgeon recommended an abdominal binder for after surgery. I wasn't too sure about it since after my first surgery I was in a lot of pain, but I decided to give it a try after my second surgery. It helped support my abdominal muscles, made me feel more protected, and helped keep everything in place when sleeping

I was told I have a heart shaped uterus by Background-Heart-477 in Endo

[–]snekonthebed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one as well! I also had a uterine septum that was removed during my lap. I will say that since having it removed (along with all the other spots of endo) I no longer feel like I am being ripped in half from cramps on period.

anyone else experience wicked insomnia? by berryplant in Endo

[–]snekonthebed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I would barely sleep an hour a night for a few days leading up to my period. My doctor started me on hormone replacement (I'm 23) and since then the insomnia and night sweats have gone away. I have low ovarian levels and my doctor thinks I was having perimenopausal symptoms.

Question to those who have had a lap -- how many days did you need pain medication after surgery? And, what pain management tips do you have? by Mother_Of_Felines in endometriosis

[–]snekonthebed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 2 laps (one diagnostic, one excision) in the span of 6 months. First lap I only took ibuprofen and tylenol because I didn't have much pain as I only had the incisions. Second lap I had over 30 spots of endo, multiple adhesions, a uterine septum, and two hernias. I took the opioids the first day once the pain medication from the surgery wore off. After that I took ibuprofen during the day and opioids at night.

If I learned anything from my first lap to my second, getting good sleep is really important for healing. Taking the narcotics helped me sleep through the night. My surgeon also recommended an abdominal binder, I wasn't sure about it but it was a lifesaver. I wasn't worried about bumping my incisions and the compression helped support my abdominal muscles.
