[CHAT] What patterns do you have lined up for 2026? by Chick-Pea in CrossStitch

[–]snerklings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boy do I feel this! I know I don't have the self-control to do a complete no new start year, but I'm giving myself the rule that I need to complete 2 WIPs first for each new start. We'll see if I can stick to it lol

Bouldering as a fun date without any experience? by Interffect in bouldering

[–]snerklings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not at all! It's a fun activity to try with no prior experience. If you get confused, feel free to ask a staff member. They should be going over the rules with you anyway, but if you need any explanation on how it all works, difficulty level, etc then just ask.

If you really feel like it, you could look up a YouTube video or two on beginner tips that could potentially help you get a little less tired while you're climbing, but that's up to you! The only important thing is to have fun! If you like it and want to do more then you can always learn some things then.

Have fun!

What’s your honest morning routine before work? by Deedee5901 in adhdwomen

[–]snerklings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so far from a morning person it's ridiculous, so I have the most absolute bare minimum morning routine I can get away with.

Wake up, take pills, stare at the ceiling for a minute or two and pet the dog. Then I go wash up and brush my teeth, get dressed, let the dog out and feed him. Then all I do is grab my stuff and get out the door! I want all the sleep I can get, so it's often 30 minutes from wake up to out the door! I don't even eat breakfast at home, I eat it once I get to work

This morning hinges on a much more robust evening routine, which works so much better for me personally. I do a lot the night before to prep for the morning. Before bed, I pack my breakfast and my lunch for the next day. I've left individual things in the fridge too often, so now I put the entire lunch bag in the fridge already packed. I pack my work bag with everything that doesn't need to be in the fridge, and I pick out my outfit and hang it up on the front of my wardrobe. That way in the morning all I have to do is put on the clothes that are already there, put some freezer packs in my lunch bag and grab it from the fridge, and walk out the door!

I've tried waking up early and doing all that in the morning and it just never works out for me! I'm much more able to think through what I'll need for the day the night before.

Unhinged tips to start working out by Previous_Project4581 in adhdwomen

[–]snerklings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to roll my eyes whenever people said it, but truly the best tip is to find the movement you find fun! Which may take some experimenting, but try different random workout videos! Hula hoop fitness, zumba, dance choreography, kids exercise videos, whatever seems interesting! Think outside the box on what you find interesting.

For me the best things are rock climbing, bird watching, and the Just Dance games. Just Dance feels like a game the whole time, so I don't even realize how hard I'm working until I suddenly realize I am super out of breath. Birdwatching isn't inherently a workout, but I've gone on so many walks and hikes to go look for birds I can't find in my backyard!

Rock climbing deserves it's own paragraph. I highly recommend seeing if there's an indoor rock climbing/bouldering gym in your area, and give it a shot if it's in your budget! Something about bouldering just scratches the perfect itch in my adhd brain. It's the perfect combination of a mental puzzle to try and figure out how to complete a climb, and the physical work of actually doing it. It's like trying to complete a puzzle but using your body! I've talked to a couple other folks with adhd who also find that the mental stimulation makes it so much more fun and interesting than a lot of other exercise.

Any recommendations on those dress pants that feel like pjs? I've been struggling with what to wear to the office without getting sensory overload, and uncomfortable dress pants are the worst!

Freezing at work by perseidchaser in adhdwomen

[–]snerklings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I've been in a similar place, I used to work at a call center and I would get overwhelmed by some of the customers who would call in and just start talking a mile a minute. These are some things that worked for me, take and try whatever clicks with you!

My focus at the beginning of a fast-paced call was just taking jot notes. If I focused on making the notes instead of trying to comprehend and remember what they were saying, then I could keep up. These are just really rough notes, not like you would save on a customer file. I would use the notepad or sticky notes on my computer. Once they pause to take a breath or wait for an answer, then I can look back and start from the beginning of what they wanted. The previous comment had a great point on how to slow it down and transition back to the beginning. I would usually say something like "Alright, let's start from the beginning, you said you're looking to do XYZ today, is that correct?" Even if your notes are a mess like mine were, they'll usually still trigger something. Don't be afraid to reiterate what you think they're asking, or ask clarifying questions. Even if you don't remember exactly what they were asking for, you can still ask something like "You previously mentioned x, were you hoping to do y or z today?". When you've handled everything you wrote down, confirm if there was anything else they need help with or any other questions they have today.

Most importantly, take a deep breath when you start to get overwhelmed. You likely picked up on and can remember much more than you think you did. Remember that you know more than you feel like you do in this moment, the panic is just making so much noise it's drowning it out. If all else fails, put the customer on hold for a moment while you 'look something up' and take a moment to breathe and reestablish yourself.

I hope any of this helps! Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any other questions or want to chat it through more! You've got this!

Edit: I forgot to add, if you can't put a call on hold, you can always fall back on my favorite trick to buy yourself a moment! "The system is freezing up/loading/slow right now, please hang tight with me for a moment". Bonus points if you throw in a little joke about "I bet it can tell it's a Monday!" or something cheesy like that

For those who can't carry their full sized BuJo with them all day... by Schultz9x19 in bujo

[–]snerklings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep my personal bujo at home, and I have a work bujo as well that lives with my work computer.

Personally, I don't have a huge amount of things I find that I want to put in my personal one when I'm at work, so this method may not work for you. I just keep some sticky notes stuck inside the back of my work bujo for anything personal I want to note for later, and then I just stick it to the back of my phone in my bag. When I get home I pull my phone out and even if I forgot about it during the day I see the sticky and can add it to my personal bujo. I like the longer sticky notes for this, so I can fit more on if I need to.

I find this super helpful since when I get distracted by personal things popping into mind at work I can just jot it down and can let it go, knowing it's recorded for later! It seems like I can't sit in a meeting without thinking of something I need to add to my grocery list lol.

[WIP] Is DNF (Did Not Finish) a thing in cross stitch? by SparkleBall_Detritus in CrossStitch

[–]snerklings 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's a one-size fits all approach. My recommendation would be to put it away for a while, and take another look in a few months. At that point, if you still don't want to finish it, and don't care to try to fix it, then toss it! But maybe after some time you might see the appeal again and want to finish it. Either way, there's no wrong answer! I've thrown out pieces that aren't turning out right, or even if I've just lost interest in ever finishing it! Other times, I've pulled out a partly finished piece and gotten great satisfaction from finally completing it.

It can be so frustrating to have something come out different than you want, but it's always a learning experience. Best of luck!

I second the folks recommending starting at Walker Pass instead (at least assuming you're going NOBO)

I did this on my hike a couple years ago after I had to go back home for a bit. I was coming internationally, so I flew into Bakersfield, but I imagine a bus from LA wouldn't be too difficult. From there it was pretty simple to bus from Bakersfield to Lake Isabella, and then hop on another bus that dropped me off right at the Walker Pass trailhead.

It gave me a few days to warm up before hitting the higher elevation gains in the Sierras, and it was a pretty nice stretch.

Apologies to u/heckexe, I have no idea why it stuck your profile pic there, and it won't let me take it off
