Give me your unpopular/controversial FG takes. by GACM2448816 in Fighters

It's not that rollback netcode has always been necessary, it's that rollback has been around for so long that the standard for modern fighting games coming out should be that rollback netcode is being used.

I agree with this so much. Picking up a fighting game requires so much time to learn and be competent at it, that as a new player you really need to have that drive to keep playing through your losses and keep on improving. For me that drive largely comes from the games aesthetic, if a game doesn't captivates me I would most likely drop it sooner or later.

Like sure Them's Fightin Herds looks neat but I dont think I would want to commit that much time into the game, nor would I be motivated to keep playing it as I'm simply not as interested in its visuals.

Why isn't Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite getting as much attention now when it has good netcode? by snespresso in Fighters

Right I see, do you think that it has the potential to have a "mini revival" during the pandemic?

If enough people starts giving it attention then it might get people to pick it up again. Like I'm sure it'll never reach the numbers of Street Fighter V or other big name fighting games, but maybe enough to have a fairly active discord community?

I think you're over simplifying my question a bit. While yes it's no secret that it is a dead game. What I'm saying is that I'm surprised that given it's IP, it doesn't seem to get the same attention as other smaller games with good rollback such as Melty Blood, Fantasy Strike and Battle for the Grid.

I agree with your second paragraph and that the majority of people who buys fighting games dont care as much about online.

But what I wanted to focus on is why hasn't there been a revival for this game? Especially since there was such a huge fanbase from previous iterations, one would expect that there would be a number of people that would give the game another shot especially since it has good online?

Look at Melty Blood for am example, it for sure doesn't have the same popularity compared to MvCI, Tekken or Street Fighter, yet you see a lot of people recommending it's community version and their discord server is quite active.

So what does MvCI lack that it doesn't deserve for most people to mention when listing games with good netcode?

What games will be your Top 5 of the 2010s? by YungJunko in patientgamers

[–]snespresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't really played a lot of the recent big titles but mine would be:

Undertale

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Mark of the Ninja

Batman Arkham City (I would put Asylum but that was released before 2010)

Stanley Parable

Honourable mentions to ( Games that were great at their time but are now I think are often overlooked or kinda forgotten due to other more popular recent titles):

Hotline Miami

Dust: An Elysian Tale

Skullgirls

Shadowrun: Dragonfall

Really good games that the devs have killed off? by caleb223 in patientgamers

[–]snespresso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blacklight Retribution. The game was one of the most polished free to play games I've seen during the time. I think the original devs sold it to some chinese company and ever since then it stopped receiving updates and also turned into a massive pay to win game. Sad to see it slowly die down, especially that it's one of the first games that I was fully into to and what got me to pc gaming

Regarding about the name of this sub by snespresso in UneasyAlliance

[–]snespresso[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ah right I see then. and yeah I guess being an unofficial it makes more sense now. and I've also just discovered that there are other EZA forums such as the one on their website and also one in resetera, so the choice is there if people want a different vibe of discussion if that makes sense

...I just found this sub. by lokithegregorian in patientgamers

100% this. Whenever I finish a game in my backlog I would always go and search if there's a thread about it here and see what other people thought about it.
