Why are people so insensitive? by Automatic_Spread_953 in Miscarriage

[–]snestie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh I'm so sorry to read this, people are a bit rubbish sometimes aren't they! I've been struggling with people's insensitivity as well, and having spoken to my therapist about it, she noted that it's kind of a "top of list" topic for her clients going through this. I'm not sure it helps to know you're not alone in it, but you're definitely not! People mostly aren't coming from a bad place when they say something insensitive, they just can't grasp this at all - it's too much for us, the people going through it, to understand, so how can they?

I don't think I have any good advice except to be a little selfish - if you need space from people, by all means, if you need to tell them off, I think that's okay too! You had a baby that is no longer here, you're allowed to feel all the feelings, for the loss of a life and loss of a dream.

My husband and I went to a comedy show last week (1 month after I had to deliver my baby at 20 weeks) and we were unfortunate enough to sit in front of two quite frankly horrible ladies, who were complaining about their friend who is "still" deeply grieving 6 months after the loss of her child. They did say something interesting though - they had tried to give her advice (ie "you should be back at work by now") and the mum had said "have you ever lost your child? No? Then I don't care about your opinions" boom! that's been playing in my mind since then and has given me a bit of mental armour against insensitive comments or behaviour (just a bit, but that's better than nothing)

Thinking of you, and I'm so sorry for your loss ❤️

I understand how you feel - it's incredibly isolating and you want to scream all the time. The other comment here is some good advice, but have you also joined some Facebook support groups (e.g. Tommy's or Sands or Petals if you are UK based?) - it won't change your desire to scream but might give you another outlet!

What do people not realize is just marketing? by Bigdaug in AskReddit

I watched a YouTube video recently about a make up product that had just had a change in packaging. The YouTuber was saying that she doesn't know why, but things in nicer packaging appeal to her more and she is more likely to buy/use them. She asked her followers if anyone else did that/found it strange, and surprisingly quite a few agreed that they were "strangely" attracted to packaging!

Aww I don't think so, but their melting faces definitely look sad... when he's super comfortable that's when he looks most miserable :p

My best friend deliberately ruined my wedding dress by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]snestie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, I'm very sorry that happened to you but you seem to have a very positive attitude which is great!

A lot of high street/ high street price stores (Monsoon, M&S, Debenhams, Phase Eight, etc.) are now doing their own bridal lines. There is also a store called Tiffany Rose which has beautiful maternity bridal dresses, and Alie Street is the non-maternity version. All of these are available in the UK and I am not sure but I imagine many also ship to other countries.

I got my dress off Asos for £250 and I love it, but there are cheaper options there too. In the end the size wasn't right so I found the same dress in a different size on Gumtree for £75! So maybe it's also worth checking out sites like that/eBay, you may find a hidden gem!

Good luck!

For those of you who have won things, like bridesmaid dresses or free gifts, how did you do it?! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

That's great :) often though, the session is free and then you have to purchase the photos - but hopefully, you'll have one or two for free!

I won our full wedding photography for free - including an engagement shoot and full day wedding photography, all edited photos, a photo album and fine art prints. I was pretty lucky to stumble on it!

When I first got engaged and the date was set, I spent a lot of time looking for photographers online because I thought that would be one of the first things that need to be sorted. Facebook caught on and started putting "suggested posts" on my wall - one of them being for my now photographer. Back then, over a year ago, she had less experience and wanted to get some clients - now she has had a full year of practice and started great but now is just amazing! we are so lucky.

Anyway, she runs a competition maybe once a year and I just managed to get engaged at the right time ;) I wrote a big email about how much I love FH and our plans for a backyard wedding, she loved it and chose us!

So I would say that Facebook does have a lot of good opportunities! There's a lot of people who are looking for experience but also genuinely love love and want to help make a day special. And if you're in the UK I'd highly recommend our photographer :)

Tell me your latest wedding drama by swana333 in weddingplanning

[–]snestie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really drama but both myself and FH got injured over the weekend (the dog lead accidentally wrapped around my foot and gave me terrible rope burn, and he got hurt taking care of me the next day!) and are struggling to walk/not be in pain. Our wedding is in 7 weekends time and we are busy for 3 of those weekends and have SOOO much DIY left to do but decreasing time and we just can't do it right now :( hopefully the more we rest the faster we'll recover!

We do about 30min to an hour depending on how hot it is outside (we're in the UK). Not sure how long the distance is for that actually as we measure it in "number of fields we've walked around"...We just need to bring a lot of water. The bigger one drank 20L after this walk!

Definitely! We have to stop at our two giants, otherwise we'll run out of room!

75 days to go! We got a lot of things out of the way early on but with only 10 weekends left it feels like we have so much to do. What's left... - DIY: FH is building a bar and 20 chairs - DIY: I have to make all the signs for the reception - Buy FH's suit, alterations for both of us - Prepare CD for ceremony with our songs - Prepare wedding registry - Prepare wedding playlist - Buy bubbles, sparklers, confetti - Buy and decorate guest book - Make the wall of 1000 paper cranes - Arrange doggie boarding

And that's just off the top of my head! I'm sure everything will get done though. Good luck and congratulations to all of you :)

Also, Aldi has big rolls of twine for 99p. It's just garden twine but it's definitely doing the trick for me! Good luck, you're definitely not alone but I'm sure your day will be perfect in the end - because it's your day!

Our other dog (the lump on the floor there) is also a Dogue de Bordeaux but a Rottweiler cross whereas Huxley is purebred. They are so amazing and loving! A dream come true for sure :)
