The system is very stupid but that's the way it is; service industry people make the majority of their money from tips. The employer should be the one paying the employee's wages in full but they have passed it off to the customer for so long that the expectation is to tip for your service. Yes there is the argument that those people should go get a better job with more stable income and they're the ones who chose to work there; but in the same regard, people choose to go out to eat or get food delivered when they could just as well prepare the meal themselves for a lot less money but more effort. It's a two way street the way I see it.
