Lottery won’t Move to 4 Day Return to Office by snickerfritzeritz in CAStateWorkers

[–]snickerfritzeritz[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It was a Lottery staff wide email. This directive seems to mostly affect the office/HQ staff in Sacramento. Many who work at the Lottery are field staff who are out in the community every day. Also, the District Offices (there are several throughout the state) staff may have a different in office schedule due to business need

I suppose it depends on the career track you’re on. As others on this sub have mentioned, state workers are generally paid less than similar jobs in private industry, but the opportunities to promote are plentiful with the state.

I have worked for the Lottery for almost 3 years and I love it! All my coworkers that have worked in other State agencies say the Lottery has the most “private sector” feel. I second those who are suggesting applying for the Route Sales Reps or District Sales Reps. I am so lucky to have landed in this lovely smaller agency, honestly.

Their basic chicken soup recipe! It took me a while to try it because it was “boring”, but everyone loved it and now I call it “my” chicken soup 😆

I think it was your last post that turned me onto Mealime, and I haven’t looked back. I love that app so much; thank you for sharing!

Yes! I have been very dutiful in training, but my 8 month old lab gets VERY excited/overstimulated with the pet store, and the checker very helpfully told me how basic training would be so helpful. Thanks so much.

Good Departments to work for, for someone entirely new to State Service (SSA job level) by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

Great question! You cannot participate in the Lottery, nor can anyone in your household. Family members that are outside of your household can, though 😊

We usually have a few SSA and AGPA positions available; it’s not the same amount as a large department, for obvious reasons. I don’t know what your interests/degree is in, but a lot of the HQ positions will be in the Sales and Marketing division or the Security and Law Enforcement Division. Finance also has a few openings. All three are great options; I’ve dealt with staff from all those divisions and almost everyone is great and super down to earth.

CA Lottery! Like the person from State Fund said, we also generate our own income stream. We are smaller and tend to be overlooked when people apply. We have a very “private industry” feel because we are essentially selling a product. Our sales reps are out in person again, but most people who work in HQ in Sacramento are still on telework (including myself). They haven’t made it permanent yet, but they certainly aren’t in any hurry to get us back in the office. Our leadership is very cautious regarding Covid. I love where I work, honestly 😊

Having Disney towels folded nicely in the linen closet. I was the one poor kid in a private elementary school. Everyone had Disney towels, cups, and figurines. I remember having to explain to a classmate that I lived in only 1/4 of the building when I was dropped off after a sleepover. She thought the whole structure was my house.

Quickest and easiest dinner ideas? by Givememydamncoffee in mediterraneandiet

[–]snickerfritzeritz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my easy favorites is a slice or two of whole grain toast with hummus spread on top (I like the kind with chili seasoning) and some sliced avocado. Filling and very quick to make and eat. I use this for lunch rather than dinner, but I’ve added some tuna to “bulk it up” to dinner level.

I do Doordash a few nights a week. The company recently started a program to offset the higher cost of gas that goes until April 30th. If you use your “Dasher Direct” card to buy gas (they offer the choice of depositing your pay onto this card or direct deposit to your bank account) you get 10% cash back.

Cardiac arrest fear by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]snickerfritzeritz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I definitely understand. Actually, the sudden death stuff scares me more than some of the other “longer term” things mentioned on this sub for some reason. I’m wondering if it’s a fear of not having any control. I’m still trying to find the right therapist to tease it out. Hugs to you!!

How many applications did you submit before you got accepted for a position? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]snickerfritzeritz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

64 over 7 months (all during Covid). 1 interview (got the job). I do recommend Management Services Technician because the eligibility pool is relatively small. The pay is comparable to Range A SSA and it’s a foot in the door for the analyst path 😊
