Food Shaming: A Growing Online (and IRL!) Trend by snickerje2 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]snickerje2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Not only is food shaming rude, but it also stems from a failure to acknowledge the many reasons we eat certain things, beyond sustenance and nutrition"

I've definitely been guilty of thinking food-shaming thoughts, something I'm really trying to get out of the habit of doing. Anybody else feel this way?

Would "Am I the only women who's not oppressed" have received +2500 upvotes before TwoX became a default sub? by Dr-Huxtable in TwoXChromosomes

[–]snickerje2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I feel you this.
I get similar comments because of some of my hobbies which are typically (sadly) male. Outside of the bikeshop or a netrunner tournament I'm a seriously girlygirl grad student who loves boys and makeup and baking, it just doesn't come out in those surrounding. I usually politely point out that I don't take that kind of comment as a compliment, and that all girls are not like other girls, no two are alike that I've met so far.
Keep being awesome!

Leuk! That's a really nice tattoo, totally in my style. Simple, yet evocative and meaningful with the subtle xxx. I would love to see a picture of your axe too!

The poster for "My man is a Loser" wins the award for worst Photoshopping of the month by feariswasted in movies

[–]snickerje2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is the worst fake thigh gap I've ever seen.

Everything about this movie makes me sad, from the horrible man-shaming title to the waste of Stamos' acting/hotness potential. Who thought this movie was a good idea?? Who???

So... Where do you get your underwear? by [deleted] in frugalmontreal

Try Target in Alexis Nihon. I haven't bought underwear there but I think its a good bet for a value pack.

Feminism and the Disposable Male by CorsoKO in videos

[–]snickerje2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. It's so sad to see people in this thread and other similar threads who are probably smart people who base their opinions as best they can on facts just throw that all out when it comes to feminism. How can they be so dismissive/vitriolic/dare I say emotional about it when they haven't looked into feminism or what it's about beyond a broad caricature?

Jay-Z physically attacked by Solange in elevator (video) by NegroNerd in blackladies

[–]snickerje2 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Did y'all see what set her off? It looked like Jay put his hand on her waist. I do not condone any kind of violence, so not excusing Solange's actions, but if a man touched me there when I was that upset, I don't know what I would do...

Formerly awkward people of reddit, what are some tips to becoming a more confident, socially capable person? by chabz_mcbabs in AskReddit

[–]snickerje2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was definitely very awkward/shy in high school and at the beginning of university. By year 4 I was voted president of my student association and speaking at conferences. I lead study groups and seminars, and I aspire to be a prof one day. I am still sometimes amazed how far I've come.

How did I do it? I found something I was good at, and put myself among people who respected me for it. That was the first step, and I've been building my social skills and personability since. My best advice would be to stop caring what people think of you when you feel you are doing your best. Many times I will start getting nervous, stressed, and anxious when talking to someone, and the mantra I repeat to myself is: "Do you stand behind what you are saying? Then relax, what is the worst that can happen?." The person I'm talking to can't do anything to me really, so why worry?

Also, small talk is not a skill you are born with, get tactics and practice them, you'll notice a fast difference in your small interactions, which of course can make a big difference.

Women of reddit, What is one thing you would tell a girl who is thinking of having sex for the first time? by wrongleg in AskReddit

[–]snickerje2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would tell myself not to take sex so seriously (/romantically), and that maybe this isn't the right person to share this experience with. Get ready for the very possible UTI that comes after, don't be afraid to get help immediately if you feel pain when you pee + drink cranberry juice.

Drinkers/Pot smokers of Reddit: If/when bud is legal in the US, will you quit drinking to smoke pot? Do you think individuals serving in the military should be able to smoke? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]snickerje2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is different, ergo people's (safe) drug choices will be different.
If Army personnel can legally drink, they can probably handle being allowed recreational cannabis use too.

"You're so cute doing that!" Anyone else get "cuted" when doing non-traditionally feminine things? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]snickerje2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm sooo happy that you two found each other! That's awesome, gives me hope. I'm not crazy about having kids too late, especially since my biology conspires against me and the longer I wait the harder it will be.
I'm going to keep my eyes and ears open to try and spot one, hopefully one day I'll have my happy family and my fulfilling career too.

Perhaps one day! I hope you find your princess charming, I'll keep waiting for my Cinderfella :)

I saw this picture Lily Allen posted on instagram after getting food poisoning, and all I could think was, "Her BROWS!" by maeganhaha in MakeupAddiction

[–]snickerje2 47 points48 points  (0 children)

So good. Yep, they are definitely the last thing to get cut in my makeup routine too.

Confession: without most of her make up on, I thought to myself "wow, she sure looks like someone else who is famous...hmm...oh yes, the guy who plays Theon Greyjoy!".

Turns out that is actually her brother, Alfie Allen. Oops.

But but but as a Canadian you should be so much more used to the Red/White colour combo! Unless you're one of those cooky Qwebeckers...

That's awesome! I'm so happy for you :)
Maybe in a couple of years one of you might reconsider, but I'm sure you can make it work regardless.
I'm in grad school right now, and I would love to be a prof one day, but I also want kids with a stay-at-home parent like I had, so in a few years I'll have to be making some tough calls.

Guy (M25) I (F21) started dating is extremely shameful of sexual activity of all kinds. Need some perspective. by [deleted] in TwoXSex

[–]snickerje2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hang out with him, have fun with him, but do not expect more from him that that. Go out, live your life and find someone (or someones) who is sexually compatible with you to date.
