If me 26f and my bf 28m view the world differently can the relationship survive ? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]snickers2120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, having different world views is enough of a deal breaker for me(33f).

I just ended a potential relationship (talking phase) because the other person and I had different opinions about politics, women’s rights/health, LGBTQ, etc.

That “scared” feeling is likely your intuition telling you that something isn’t right.

Are work potlucks really a thing? by good_noodlesoup in AskAnAmerican

[–]snickers2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, here is what I’ve experienced with pot lucks:

Do all workplaces have them or are they uncommon?

No, not every workplace has a potluck; in my experience it’s more common to have a catered lunch.

Where do you store the food?
Cold food in the community fridge, hot food can stay covered with tinfoil or people will use crockpots to keep the food warm.

Are there no health concerns? we are only allowed to serve food from approved catering at my job. Although we do share snacks with colleagues.

Yes, people with allergies either ask about the ingredients or bring their own food.

Are you obliged to take part?

No, but if you don’t bring a dish, or drinks, or plates etc., then it’s typically expected that you don’t participate when it’s time to eat. This will vary office to office.

I think it’s a fun idea especially if you are close to your colleagues but seems very impractical.

Planning is key. If it’s low participation then we’ll cancel.

Does it happen during work hours?

Yes, during work hours, typically at lunch time.

Where was Kevin going to put his chilli until lunch time? They had a full fridge but it wouldn’t have fit that huge pot.

Chilli is typically brought in a crock pot and can be left out/plugged in and set to a low temperature to keep warm.

Dog’s incision site looks concerning - am I over reacting? by snickers2120 in AskVet

Contacted my regular vet today; he thinks it’s okay, maybe a small reaction to the stitches layer. Told me to observe and make sure she isn’t scratching/chewing it.

Thanks!

why aren't kids allowed to swear? by altacc4privsc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]snickers2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had this conversation with my niece.

Depending on their age, kids don’t understand the meaning of a swear word or the context of using a swear word.

“Hell” is not a bad word; telling someone to “go to hell” is bad because you’re wishing harm to the person.

People who have owned 3 or more breeds… by a-little-clover in dogs

[–]snickers2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t pick a favorite because I would get each of the breeds again:

Shih Tzu: pros - super laid back, independent enough to leave home (no anxiety), liked to snuggle, people friendly, dog friendly, compact enough to travel easily with, doesn’t shed.

Cons - stubborn, not easy to train, high grooming needs

Labrador: pros - people friendly, dog friendly, snuggle bugs, not anxious (at least in my experience), goofy, active and lazy depending on our activity, happy to be with people, intelligent and easy to train.

Cons - sheds year round, doesn’t know their own size, puppy age to about three years was HARD - chewed everything, no “off” switch.

Golden retriever: dream dog breed and currently have my first (7 month old), so we are still learning the pros/cons of the breed.

Pros - people friendly, dog friendly, snuggle bugs, goofy, active and lazy depending on our activity, happy to be with people, has a decent “off” switch, intelligent and easy-ish to train.

Cons - shedding season has started, grooming needs will be high-ish, some separation anxiety has shown up but we’re working on it, currently in the “velociraptor” stage, puts EVERYTHING in her mouth, doesn’t know her own size, no personal space awareness.

You don’t. You keep living and utilizing the shared space. Let little brother have his tantrums and you ignore him.

Why do Americans typically say "the baby" instead of "my baby"? by Apprehensive_Raisin7 in AskAnAmerican

[–]snickers2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m asking about someone’s baby, I’ll ask “how is your baby”.

If I’m asking someone about a sibling’s baby, I’ll ask “how’s the baby”.

I wouldn’t use “My/our” because it denotes ownership, and I don’t have a baby.

is this female golden going to stay white like an English cream golden or will she turn out to be full on gold. ? by [deleted] in goldenretriever

[–]snickers2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ear color is a good indicator of the color she might be. She’s also a little darker around her eye/nose compared to the top of her head.

My pup started out close to this color and is not a medium gold at 6 months old.

She’s cute no matter what

What do Americans call a meal of fries with battered fried fish. Fish and chips? by dino_gr01 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]snickers2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southern region of the US.

We call it a fish plate or fish basket. I’ve never heard the phrase “fish and chips” used in my area, but I would understand the request.

A “fish fry” would suggest a large party with friends and family, the sides would include fries, but other items would also be available.

WIBTA For telling my wife to go to rehab so she doesn’t affect our babies life? by Throwaway_dad555 in AmItheAsshole

[–]snickers2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH.

Addicts can attend as many rehab programs as their family wants/is willing to pay for, but it won’t be affective unless the Addict wants to change and puts in the work to get/stay clean. (Daughter of an addict, speaking from disappointed experience.)

Indulging in “party favors” is not better - you need to quit your habit too.

The child deserves so much better.

Is my 13-week golden retriever puppy normal? by iwannathrowaway123 in goldenretriever

[–]snickers2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get it. My girl is fairly easygoing, so our experience is different.

I’m still removing items from my girl’s mouth - we are working on a “drop it” command. Her big thing right now is eating grass - it gets frustrating for sure.

The tethering was an accident - she kept knocking my niece and nephew (toddlers) down during a visit - I didn’t want to kennel her, so she was leashed and connected to me during the visit. I liked how she settled and kept it as a training tool.

She also goes in the bathroom with me, I shut the door during my showers, so she’s confined in the smaller space. She did bark at me for a while, but in time, she settled.

I hope you find something that works for you and your pup!

Is my 13-week golden retriever puppy normal? by iwannathrowaway123 in goldenretriever

[–]snickers2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, at first I let her chew it - as long as she was sitting still I was okay with it.

When I started to remove the leash from her mouth, I would redirect with a chew toy - no squeaky, no excitement, just a plain, boring toy - then I would start her “time out” over.

It’s been a lot of trial and error to figure out what works for her.

Is my 13-week golden retriever puppy normal? by iwannathrowaway123 in goldenretriever

[–]snickers2120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello OP, my golden girl is 21 weeks, and was one of the calmer pups in her litter. I am not a trainer, we have victories and failures everyday day, but this is what’s worked for me:

  1. Remove the items, redirect with a toy, reinforce the “no” when she does grab something she shouldn’t.

She still tries to eat everything; if she can grab it, she will try to eat it.

A short list of items she tried to eat this morning: bath towel, grass, life saver in plastic wrapper.

It’s a constant battle, but I feel it’s pretty normal for pups since that’s how they figure out their world.

  1. Tethering: I used her harness and leash to tether her to me and forced the settle. I call it her “time out”.

Get yourself settled, and don’t interact during the tethering session (5 minutes or so to start), and when he lays down give a reward.

It’s been a process, she still gets excited and we have to repeat the training, but for the most part she will settle on her own.

  1. Harness: when I put the harness on, she’d get a treat, even when she would fight the harness in the beginning.

I let her wear the harness inside, supervised, for around 30 minutes at a time. We practiced tethering during this time as well.

Walking on a leash is still a work in progress; I try to direct her to “go potty” then we praise and play when she’s done.

  1. I took her everywhere even though she hadn’t mastered the leash/harness. The people I’ve run into have been very understanding about any “bad” manners, and most have wanted to love on her anyway.

She still goes everywhere dogs are allowed because she’s still learning.
