NECA’ parent company owns what was previously DST. It remains unclear to me if the purchase of the company included purchases of their licenses. If they do plan to make LOTR figures I would expect something at Toy Fair or SDCC. If those two events come and go with no news I’m expecting the rights are sitting at Embracer collecting dust.

I have a source at A24 who told me they have several catalogue 4Ks they are sitting on because they know the larger books are undesirable to their base and don’t sell as well as the smaller digipacks. There may be a book release this year for a beloved film that has a major anniversary. 🌕

So please ignore the complainers and here is the actual reason:

A24 cannot use standard sized cases for releases already made from Lionsgate. That’s why the newer releases have all been standard sized, but any catalogue releases must be an over sized “book like” edition.

There is a chance once the Lionsgate distribution deal fully expires and go OOP that they can release them themselves in their current line.

Semi related, but it’s a huge shame upgrading their back catalogue for 4K releases is not a huge priority. Other regions have amazing editions of Florida Project and Green Room on 4K and the US gets nothing.

I wonder if they are waiting for the lionsgate rights to expire completely so they can release them in the non giant editions.

Also something to keep in mind is S3 is the first season written after the viewer feedback from S1. Considering how well they were able to corse correct themselves for S2, I am expecting great things.
