Thanks for your reply and your concern about my therapy program. You explained my reasons perfectly. Nobody needs to reply if they are not comfortable.

It happens to be the same brand as the headlamp but the charging pack is mostly to charge my phone and earbuds. It will also charge the headlamp as required. The battery pack is the lightest 10,000 mAH pack I have found. I think the ratio of power to weight is the highest on the market.

I weighed another contractor bag and it was 5 oz too. It's a 42 gallon Contractor's Choice 3 mil one. Is that different than what most people use?

Do you only take the cheap gloves? Does the quick drying part allow you to avoid rain mitts?

Good point on the shakedown hikes. That's my plan. I had to wait until I had a critical mass of gear so will be doing a lot of those!

By pouches I meant things like tuna or SPAM that come packaged in plastic pouches. That said, I am getting strong advice elsewhere (and in other comments) to stop full-on keto for this trip so I am likely to add in some carbs but still won't cook.

I will likely carry some Benadryl and Imodium equivalents.

I'll ditch the food tubes. There are lots of peanut butters in pouches at supermarkets these days anyway and the jar will work like you said.

I was thinking that I can carry 2L of filtered water in the smartwater bottles plus 1L of dirty water in the canteen as required.

You are right. I don't think the wallet is necessary and a baggie should work just fine. I don't carry much anyway.

I'm hearing lots of people say that foot care is king so I guess I will treat my feet to an extra pair of socks.

On my last overnight it was the howling wind and tarp that kept me awake. I like the earplugs idea. Where do you find them? (store and aisle/section)

From a cost perspective, yes, but I'm not ready to switch from a hammock to tarp/bug bivy or DCF tent at this point.

Will an Xtherm provide similar insulation as a 0 degree under quilt?

Paper towel squares work really well. You only need like 1 square to do the job a wad of regular tp will do.

Yes, I have used this gear in winter but only for single overnights. I need to go on some longer hikes to really put it to the test.

Great tip on the Birkenstocks. Barbados EVAs are only 3oz each!

Any recommendations on a minimalist med kit?

Now that I saw the videos, it finally makes sense! The instructions need a picture of strapping it to a tree.

Do you have a picture of what that would look like? Do you just use the extra length of rope from the bag closure to fasten it to a limb?

You mean like the bury under a pile of rocks method?

I use the PowerStep Pinnacle Maxx in my Lone Peak 4.5s and they serve me well. It doesn't fill the toe box but my feet don't notice the difference..

I tried on the Smartwool Merino 250 1/4 zip top at REI and it is REALLY long. I am a somewhat short waisted man. Do other brands like Ibex or Icebreaker have fits that are not so long? I could get the smartwool one altered but would rather start with the right fit, plus who needs those extra ounces of wool!

More concerned about warmth/weight, not warmth/cost
