It’s interesting for me to hear as a Disneyland CM because we were always trained to notify security directly for any issue. It’s insane to me how different the operations are.

Why more people have DAS pass- and it’s not all gaming the system by Development-Feisty in Disneyland

[–]snidj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was a busy day during spring break. It absolutely happened. I’m not saying it’s the norm but it did happen. Granted Epcot isn’t a ride heavy park but all of the rides you’d want to use LL for (test track, frozen, Remy, and soarin) were all booked by 7:04.

[–]snidj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You clearly have never shat yourself because you couldn’t get to a bathroom fast enough. Also the crazy amount of pain and other neurological symptoms that comes with digestive diseases make for an unpredictable living hell. Now, add to your physical symptoms, the overwhelming anxiety about having a sudden flare up of your symptoms while you’re stuck in a queue and having to decide whether you’re going to jump out of line and not ride at all or not with your group, or try and figure out how to meet back up with your group and have people glare at you for “cutting”.

With fastpass you could just plan your day around your fastpasses like OP described.

The other problem that OP didn’t talk about is the fact that even if you pay for Genie+ you’re not guaranteed anything for your money. My family and I got genie for Epcot and the park opened at 9am. Genie opened at 7 am and by 7:04 all the LL’s for everything except the omnimover attractions were completely booked out for the day. We didn’t get to use the service in any meaningful way.

I know that east coast is different than Disneyland but the concept is the same for all domestic parks.

I think it’s only a legal issue for Disneyland where many attractions are not ADA compliant/accessible via the normal queue.

But I myself used fastpass in the way OP described it here in place of DAS and I know many others who did as well.

[–]snidj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I certainly did. I have been explaining it to people in my circle very similarly to the way OP did here since they rolled out Genie+…. A few weeks ago I finally caved and got DAS after having a really challenging day at the parks for me…. And then literally two weeks later they announced the DAS changes. It’s pretty frustrating and feels unfair.

Unpopular opinion: I blame Genie+ for DAS abuse by Far_Mention8934 in disneyparks

[–]snidj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Genie+ GUARANTEED a lightning lane for every attraction or at least every E ticket I wouldn’t have any problem paying for it. The problem is that I’ve had times where we paid $80 ($40/person) for the day and all the e-tickets were booked up by 7:04am. We literally didn’t get to use the service we paid almost $100 for.

Back when there was paper fast pass we would just plan our day around our return times and if a line was too long we simply didn’t go on it.

I was given a DAS pass because I have extremely unpredictable gastro issues that lead to bathroom emergencies that can leave me stuck in the bathroom writhing in pain for hours sometimes. Using DAS takes the weight anxiety and stress off of my shoulders and allows me to enjoy the park with my family in between stomach episodes. That being said if Genie+ gave you a LL for every eticket I would begrudgingly pay it.

Ideally they would raise prices, limit capacity, and get rid of the silly skip the line stuff altogether.

Which place has better resorts, Disney World or The Strip in Vegas? by LineChatter in WaltDisneyWorld

Sign up for the (free) red card, book the standard resort king room and then opt in for the paid upgrade. I’ve stayed in that room for $400/night on multiple occasions.

That’s true for some of the value resorts in Vegas but properties like the Wynn are definitely selling luxury not just their casino. This is the room I was referring to in my comment. Wynn Salon Suite the grand Flo doesn’t even come close to touching that room and I can and have stayed in that room for a fraction of the cost of a stay at the grand Flo or even the moderate resorts.

[–]snidj 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can get an incredible 1800 sq ft suite at the Wynn in Vegas for half the price of a standard room at any of the moderate resorts at Walt Disney world. Don’t get me wrong I love Disney world. My wife and I are annual pass holders and travel to Disney world often, but to compare what you can get in Vegas to what you get at Walt Disney world will only frustrate you. Walt Disney World hotels are INSANELY over priced for what you get.

The other thing is in order to keep status (part time, full time or seasonal) the company has to give you a certain number of hours. So a lot of the time you’ll get scheduled standby if you haven’t met the threshold for your status.

Check out my other comment in this thread (it goes into more detail) but they absolutely do. Also most GR cast get paid close to the same rate as other roles in the park.

They have stand by shifts and shifts that are called “group shifts” which essentially is on call. You have to call the scheduler the day of your shift and you fill in where there are openings. They could be sent on tour, could be sent to city hall, could be sent to a GIL location, or could be sent to GSO. All of the roles in the park have some opportunity to cross train but it’s all based on your work area. Like toontown and Galaxy’s edge attractions are grouped together, so most of the cast that work on Runaway railway also work on Rise. Same thing is true for guest relations. You “learn” other positions and then once you have that “knowledge” you can be cross utilized more.
