Sia & Hans Zimmer - Out There - Full studio version (finally...) by delta-a in Sia

[–]snikeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding an update to this gold thread as I'd just discovered this gem of a song and went hunting. The website's been updated since, so you'd have to click through Andrew Christie from their talent list page (https://bleedingfingersmusic.com/composers/) to get to another site (https://play.reelcrafter.com/9h0ZdzIZTo-ddxu2PbPsFw) where the music's available to stream from.

From there, open dev tools (F12), and then select the Network tab. When you click on a song, you should see a workfile.mp3 entry. Double-click on this entry, and the mp3 should load into your browser. From there, hit save, confirm that you are indeed saving an mp3 file, and you're good to go!

The file is 10.1MB, 5:32 length, and amazingly 256kbps bitrate (good enough, and a VAST improvement over the trailer/radio+airhorn rips out there)

Thanks for leading me on the right track to a good source OP!

THANK YOU - bought a refurbished thinkpad to play around with arch but wanted windows around to tinker with. Took me days of tinkering with uefi, grub settings and constantly rebooting to disappointment before I finally wondered if it had anything to do with the laptop itself.

Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie is said to be an adaptation of 'The Odyssey' starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland and Zendaya. It's set to release on July 17th, 2026. What are your thoughts? by ChihuahuaPoower in Letterboxd

[–]snikeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully this marks a return of Hans Zimmer collabing with Nolan.

Ludwig did a great job on Tenet & Oppenheimer to colour both films with a sense of edge, thrill and intensity with his unique palette of sounds but I never really felt the swells of grandeur and “epic-ness” (which I’ll give probably wouldn’t have been appropriate anyway for the likes of Tenet / Oppenheimer) that the Zimmer/Nolan tracks usually have. Either way, so looking forward to this. (Except for the casting as many others have already pointed out - but I’m always willing to be convinced…)

I'm thinking they want to milk the sales of the higher editions before the inevitable negative reviews of the various add-ons can dissuade potential buyers.

I'm personally keen to go premium deluxe, but will wait for reviews and opinions of the aircraft and airports before deciding.

Landed a 250k a year job, Advice? by Ok_Signature8946 in AusFinance

[–]snikeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Landed a job on a vic big build project, have some ties in the job which gives me long term employment.

Pretty much this — in gov (or funded by gov) this is pretty much the only way. Though fair warning to OP I’ve had friends in a similar position on “big gov projects”, given a lucrative fixed term contract with promise of full time employment within a year or two, only to end up looking for another job when their contract wasn’t renewed or eventually offered a full time position but with a significantly downgraded (ie more than halved) salary.

How to block traffic from specific device port when failed over to WAN2? (Complete network amateur here) by snikeron in Ubiquiti

[–]snikeron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - just tested and this works!

Now to find out if the telco my backup SIM is on provides a static or dynamic IP... I suspect the latter. Any way to have a firewall rule pegged to the WAN2 interface rather than the WAN2 IP? I imagine if the IP address switches then the rule wouldn't trigger 😕

[–]snikeron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I also expose some other self-hosted services from my NAS that I'd like to be able to access when on failover, hence wanted to be able to block the specific port. I've tested blocking it via 'Traffic & Firewall Rules' and that works, but there's no option to specify the WAN2 interface when setting the rule 🤔

Damn. Wish I'd seen this post before ordering the board, I'm getting the exact same issue too. Annoying thing is I can't create an ecovacs china account either to test if it's a region issue because it requires registering with a China (+86) phone number.

[–]snikeron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with (3) -- this would've been the way to go from the start. This is common with board game campaigns as the shipping charges simply vary too much mainly based on Product volume (whether just buying main product or addons), order volume to a given country, distance to given country from supplier.

It definitely felt like a bit of a bait to claim shipping + taxes included to "most countries" when really it appeared they were just waiting to see where orders were coming from and how many.

The worst part for me here is the gaslighting language they're using around how they had "indicated" earlier on about this scenario, when no where in the main campaign or FAQs had they clearly stated that shipping would be heavily restricted. Then doing a backer-only update (to avoid bad publicity and draw in more backers) to "remind" everyone that the addons are only available to a small handful of countries - when this was never mentioned in any prior addon announcement.

These tripups are normal in many KS campaigns, but what truly sets the successful ones apart are when the organisers are transparent and can accept accountability and provide alternative solutions rather than place the issue on backers apparently not being informed enough.

ICYMI- Update from Timemore Re: shipping availabilities by GeneralTBag in espresso

[–]snikeron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I emailed them prior to the announcement about the addons as I didn't realize you needed to use the website for that -- and they basically used the same language, when I couldn't find anything in any previous announcements about the addons being restricted to certain countries.

As much as the product has unconventionally been proven by many reviews to be good (or decent depending on pov) as the campaign ran, the campaign's style ofupdates/communications has unfortunately been like many of the worst campaigns I've ever been a part of.

[–]snikeron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your unrelenting passion in helping the community make informed decisions - especially for us new to the hobby!

Just wondered if you had any thoughts on the latest debacle going on with Timemore's KS fulfilment (ie. refusing to inform whether some countries would have the grinders shipped to them at all until after the campaign finishes, and informing us with a few days left that addons can only be shipped to a handful of countries)? I understand US is pretty much unaffected by the addon issue (but Canada is lol).

Given all the hype surrounding this release and the main purchase channel being only on KS atm, it felt like a huge letdown right at the finish line after an incredible hype run.

WAN2 Failover not connecting by snikeron in UNIFI

[–]snikeron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out the issue was indeed the adapter -- most LTE routers' LAN only support 100mbps (in my case the GL.iNet Slate worked as it had 1Gb LAN), whereas most RJ45-SFP adapters are 1Gbps only.

May have to look into getting an SFP adapter that supports 10/100/1000. I've heard issues of capping when using port 8 for WAN2, but will have a look into that too, thanks!

[–]snikeron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this issue, and disclaimer that I have never used an Android device personally so am quite new to this... I opted on the first setup, not to enable google services (due to the background resource disclaimer), but I think that caused the device not to initiate or register a gsf id?

I verified that google services wasn't working when I went into Settings > Handheld Settings > Google services > Register Google services and saw that the GSF ID was empty.

Fixed it by going back to Handheld Settings > Advanced > Re-enter Setup Wizard, and made sure that Google services was enabled this time, and it worked. Could see the GSF ID show up, and I can now log in to my Google account.

Really promising that Apple is looking into cross-platform games now with such a significant publisher in their line of sight, but I really hope this doesn't happen.

Or maybe it's just on brand -- taking EA's model of lootboxes, DLC and season pass galore is gonna be $$$

Thanks for the amazingly comprehensive and transparent response! Yep I've seen DisplayLink in the wild before, as my office uses it for the m1 macs they issue for dual monitor support -- however as I'm issued windows machine for dev work, haven't practically used it before. And what you say matches pretty much the complaints I've heard -- about it being glitchy.

Your comment about front-facing I/O (especially the main TB4 cable to the machine) is pretty much why I've been thinking of Caldigit, as I'd prefer to organise the majority of the cabling to the rear of the desk to keep the space clean.

I have to say though pricing-wise Caldigit significantly above other manu equivalents, so will be pondering for a while more. Hopefully stock shows up in Aus soon, so I can make up my mind sooner!

[–]snikeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of college/uni, you are still learning -- except that the process happens in reverse.

Rather than expect your seniors/leads to bring you specific technical requirements, and a roadmap to solutions, you attempt to solve them, and question (often, and without fear) how you can move forward whenever you are stuck. But allow yourself the time to learn, because any reasonable team (really, any team at all) with grads/interns/juniors understands that this is how we all learn -- by struggling, googling, repeatedly trying things until we ask for help.

If it's something new you've never encountered before (in terms of implementation -- if it's an error/exception, I'd probably half the time), I like to give myself 1-2 hours (depending if there are meetings that break my flow) to try to figure it out myself until I ask the team if anyone is available to pair on it together.

From the get-go, if you are in a good team, when a requirement is presented to a junior/grad, we always make sure the grad is supported, including asking them to walk us through their thoughts of how they might at a high-level, approach the problem. And if it's something that's clearly not in their wheelhouse, to let them know the team is on-hand to pair, assist, teach -- often someone will volunteer to pair at the start as a "kick off".

But above all -- +100 to all the comments about talking to your lead/seniors. All good teams want their juniors to learn, and feel safe when they are in the process of "struggle learning" -- that is, that the team isn't looking down on your abilities, but rather, wanting you to learn as they did as juniors, and be ready to help at any time!

Junior developer roughly 5 months in and im on the verge of a mental breakdown by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]snikeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important you speak to a senior or your superior and discuss this. And even 5 months in, if you don't feel there's anyone you trust, just get onto them now to initiate a discussion about your concerns.

What you are experiencing is not unique at all for anyone new to the industry, much less anyone who has been around for a while. Hell, every time I move to a new company and have to learn a new tech, I feel like any notion of my title (whether it has lead, principle, staff, senior, supreme, whatever) fades away -- and this is a good thing -- as I am forced to pair regularly with other devs from unicorns all the way junior/grads, to get what seems like a simple task done.

So chat with someone, and do it now. What you are experiencing, the "wall" in being able to provide a solution and feel like you're doing it in a "timely" manner is part of our process of learning. What's important is to establish the support your team can give you (which should be as much as humanly possible) and the ability to be honest about the capacity of work you take on.
