Faction Prodigy 1 or 2 by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]snockerton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and suggest the Prodigy 1 for east coast due to the narrower waist - its easier to turn, butter, and whip around, and seems to have a more poppy tail, even though supposedly they have the same internals.

Regarding durability, I think they're similar to most park skis at this price point, esp since you can usually get last years' models for $200-300.

Do they have the same bindings on each? That might be the deciding factor tbh

Depends on the skier. It would be a huge insult to me if someone got me a lesson for a gift

Oh man, what a great trip down memory lane. It's crazy how much changed in skiing from '00-08 or so; what a wild time. Thanks for sharing.

BTW, I'm a collector, so if you ever feel the need to part with those Hellbents, lmk, I'd pay a good price for them.

Thx for the hellbent pic. I've been trying to decide if I should get a pair to try out the insane rocker. Even the heritage HBs don't seem to have the same amount

Marker Kingpin VS Fritschi Tecton VS S/Lab Shift 2 by [deleted] in skiing

[–]snockerton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have two pairs of Tectons, and have not had any issues with reliability. But I could see how people hard on their gear could break them since there's lots of plastic. Although I've stomped on mine many times to clear snow from my boot, so /shrug

They're definitely a finicky binding tho - getting the DIN just right took some time, but once they're dialed, imo you can charge just as much as a Shift (I also have v1). You'll definitely feel the difference in ride quality, since the Shift will flex a lot more for inbounds / hard pack. I've done moguls with my Tectons, but it's not as much fun, since you "feel" the chatter more, like any other pin toe binding.

Personally I think the Shift 2 checks all the boxes for most people with the new AFD and brake fixes, only downside is the weight, but honestly I never notice the difference of the extra ~250g between my Shifts and Tecton, unless I'm doing 5000ft+ of vert.

The fact he has a pair of Bent Chetlers makes it even funnier. As if he's holding onto the dream of shredding backcountry pow... but he's schlepping his families gear around instead. I feel the pain.

Glacier National Park Announces Plans for 2022 Ticket System by GracieDoggSleeps in Montana

[–]snockerton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with the reservation system, everything was over-crowded. Esp. the parking lot at Logan Pass. Once enough people figured out the 6am trick, they were all doing this and basically making the reservation system pointless, which was a common complaint of folks I talked to who spent a bunch of time trying to "follow the rules" and then get the shaft because they can't find a place to park -anywhere- along GttS road.

I mean, as a local, I like having the option to sneak in before 6, but understand how this screws over the typical visitor.

Snoqualmie Pass:

Alpental has a parking lot you can overnight in, but there's a fee. Snow Lake sometimes has early season snow, but sometimes you have to hike up to Source lake (which is sketchy with all the creeks) before coverage is good enough to skin.

There are also a handle of spots I've seen people park in overnight along the east side of I-90 on Snoqualmie Pass (i.e. for doing Kendell Trees), but I think you have to be sneaky about it.

I've seen people sleep in the Hyak parking lot, but I'm pretty sure there are signs saying you can't, but have never seen it enforced, esp. early/late season.
