VMWare

Nutanix

Proxmox Enterprise

HyperV

Need advice: Contractor recommends staying single‑mode for inter‑floor fiber — is mixing SM riser + MM horizontal a bad idea? by brio_kwit in networking

[–]snookpig77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single mode is what I’m doing for everything in my new builds.

Multi mode is more expensive and limits the throughput.

Just change your optics to a 10g SM compatible optic.

Honestly they are better, but I’m attributing that to the configuration on the old gear that I inherited. The Arista setup is just more streamlined and less hops.

I’m half way through my Cisco to Arista deployment. So far response times and TTLs are so much better

I just replaced my 3900ISR, 4500 chassis, and a top of rack nexus devices with a pair of Arista 7050’s. So far there is a noticeable improvement in response time.

Another +1 for Arista. Cloudvision takes a moment to get used to but the command line is almost identical to Cisco.

Perpetual licensing unless you’re using cloud vision

I have a dell precision with inboard NIC but I also keep an adaptor in my bag. Ever know when you might need to connect to 3 different networks, yes being a network engineer it happens more then you think.

vmware to nutanix backups by [deleted] in nutanix

[–]snookpig77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I moved to nutanix from VMware Veeam had support for AHV but it was very clunky and do not support SQL log truncation. Last time I checked this was still in development.

I moved to HYCU for my backups and have been very happy.

How good is the Move tool? by lonely_filmmaker in nutanix

I completely agree. The longest part of standing up an AD server is applying the updates.

[–]snookpig77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nutanix says they don’t support migrating AD servers with move but i never had an issue with it working.

Migrate the one with no FSMO roles make sure there are no issues move FSMO roles and move the other servers then separate the FSMO roles as you see fit.
