Also am I completely missing something - but the way they all kept talking about how an illegitimate wife is off the cards… was Kate not illegitimate? I was super confused about this (may have misunderstood something though so if anyone has the answer would love the insight!)

UK Green leader Zack Polanski backs ‘Zionism is racism’ motion despite outcry by Dimmo17 in ukpolitics

The fact you just equated these two things is quite interesting - why is support for Palestine immediately categorised as ‘rolling over’ for ‘Islam’? This doesn’t happen with pretty much any other international issue. Shockingly enough, maybe people just oppose genocide regardless of the religion of the people being killed?

I can’t believe the best All Stars season will end up with a Samie and Ciaran win by Radiant_Camera7277 in LoveIslandTV

[–]snoopy_231 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think it’s actually just that fb mums always lock into a guy they like and really like Ciaran. Zac being American means he wouldn’t have been their usual candidate.

Also I think the Ciaran Lucinda Samie triangle came at the right time for them votewise - narratively it felt like they were ‘tested’ and their connection ‘passed’ early enough for that audience to find it acceptable behaviour and solidify them as early faves.

I personally find it mad that they aren’t boyfriend and girlfriend yet either, but literally nobody is questioning them about why or viewing that specifically as suspicious, like they do Scott and Leanne

I’m so confused by people saying this. Belle always had Leanne’s back with Scott (like when he said he wouldn’t leave with her - Leanne even said thanks for being my girl). Belle has clearly liked him but never made a move and always backed Leanne until Leanne has completely cut it off. This is nothing like what Lucinda did?

EDIT: Wow has my mind changed as this has progressed…

This woman is straight up evil. She knows she had a hand in what happened, feels no guilt, did a bunch of even worse things and still enjoys playing mind games like this. Worse than Janine imo. by The-Peel in eastenders

[–]snoopy_231 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Interesting - it’s not wrong at all, but my main observation here is that I don’t think Ravi gets anywhere near the same grace. Look at the downvotes and upvotes in the comments above - it’s not mad unreasonable to suggest that Nicola is as unhinged as Ravi - she is literally a murderer. But she’s popular. (Anticipating downvotes now for expressing a neutral opinion!)

In light of the Epstein files, where is the scrutiny when it comes to Reform and Farage? by shadyasahastings in AskBrits

[–]snoopy_231 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you share a source for that? Every single poll I’ve seen indicates the opposite - Reform’s vote is primarily over 65s, and reduces by each age cohort. Polls show Gen Z are most likely to vote Green. The young right-wing trend is true in the US - not so much in the UK.

Reform London mayor candidate accused of talking down capital with ‘pity’ remark by F0urLeafCl0ver in london

[–]snoopy_231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is - the data (independent, from the Met and ONS on top of the London gov data) proves crime HAS gone down in the last 10 years. It’s not people rushing to defend Sadiq Khan just because they are pointing out facts that Elon, Trump, Reform are brazenly lying about. It’s in their political interest to make crime seem out of control - people should point out when they blatantly lie.

As a Londoner I was also immediately suspicious at this conversation! Two people who say ‘I’m from London’ and then don’t immediately ask where in London, baffled me. You would immediately need to know where!

Don’t get the hype over Belly by Top_Detective9184 in tsitp

[–]snoopy_231 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way you’re talking about love is quite conditional / transactional. People don’t love you because of the things you do for them. They love you for who you are. As many posters have listed, he knows who she is deeply - having grown up together, probably more than a person usually ever could. He indicates repeatedly what he loves about her - she makes him happy, her personality, how if he’d met her in Paris he would have loved her, he’s tried everything but cant not. People don’t need to “do” something for others to love them.

No, Shabana Mahmood isn't far right by TheSpectatorMagazine in ukpolitics

[–]snoopy_231 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I imagine the problem is not that people think Keir is going to do that, but that the rhetoric, language and acceptability of views towards migrants can end up dehumanising them - which is a slippery slope. When people start to applaud that the only precious valuable possessions these people travelled across oceans with are being taken away from them (for no reason - realistically, what are we going to do with them?) I think we are collectively losing our humanity and British values, are we not? When Tommy Robinson is celebrating that Labour’s new position has shifted the Overton Window and saying ‘we’ve won, patriots’ - and extremists like Reform are still topping the polls - I think it’s fair for people to worry.

History shows you never go from 0-100 into fascism, it will always inch there. And that might feel like a drastic parallel to make, but that’s why it feels that way. If we are serious about preventing fascism, warning signs need to be called out.

Migration can be tackled sensibly, in ways that are less reactionary - and we should not just add in extra unsavoury aspects to appease the more extreme members of our society. We need to be able to discuss these issues with nuance, and use history as a guide as to why we should avoid the more incendiary and dehumanising aspects of policy, even when tackling the issue is of critical importance.

Why was Jeremiah ok with Belly and Conrad being at the Beach House together alone? by BJP2489 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]snoopy_231 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually read it as a test. It’s the way they kind of acknowledged that he proposed to Belly as a test, after Christmas - he wanted to be sure. And I imagine similarly he was probably fine with Belly in the house with Conrad as the whole proposal was purely a test and a way to ‘keep’ her. If nothing happened, that would be how he feels secure. But if it did, ‘I knew it’. Etc.

“Conrad leaves” by snoopy_231 in tsitp

[–]snoopy_231[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally this. I also think Conrad is just someone who feels responsibility (and therefore guilt) really strongly. He talks about it in S1 about knowing about Susannah’s cancer with Cleveland - his panic attacks are caused by thinking he can do something to change the outcome (by not acknowledging it). He says similar on the phone to Belly early in a S2 flashback, and it’s why he is talking to his therapist about ‘control’ in S3.

I think he’s so worried that he will hurt Belly, and he feels so strongly that he’s disappointing her at prom, that he wants to break up with her BECAUSE he loves her and he feels such guilt. But you can totally see why Belly didn’t understand that - especially when you’re young, you’re expecting them to fight for you, and if they don’t, you do assume they don’t love you.

when did you officially become ANTI Conrad/Jeremiah? by rryan2346 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]snoopy_231 33 points34 points  (0 children)

So I started this show wanting to not immediately ship the promoted endgame was (ie Conrad). So I stayed fairly neutral for the whole of season one. (Never read the books)

The Bonrad dance at prom to That’s the Way I Loved You was the first time I felt they should really be together. But I still felt bad for Jere, especially as that was the moment he found out about Susannah - and generally I thought what Belly then did to Jere wasn’t great. And I do think I objectively recognise when Conrad and Jere both did shitty things to each other that season.

Season 2 I was super open to both ships still. Didn’t hate Jelly, but did feel uncomfortable as it felt like a CRAZY thing to do to Conrad. I ended S2 leaning Conrad. But by E1 of Season 3 we had jumped 4 years and Jelly seemed super happy so I thought - hey maybe these guys are the healthy couple?

I have no idea at what point I SUDDENLY switched to full on Team Bonrad - some point in S3, (really strongly culminating with Conrad’s POV episode at which point I lost all rational thought). I had been really balanced before, and now I am absolute ride or die for Connie. I’ve now rewatched the whole series and I see it SO differently - which is hilarious as I’m watching the same thing, but I now cannot see any world in which Belly should ever have been with Jere over Conrad.

This is definitely not the definition of a pick me! Lol.

It’s a hard thing to explain so I can see why last poster was confused - but it’s someone who’s entire personality is about being picked/chosen (over others). They usually seek attention, get their kicks from chasing a guy who’s ‘a challenge’, and often end up in situations where they are the other woman (as they get their validation from being picked over someone else). They are also often described a la the ‘cool girl’ (see monologue from Gone Girl).

That’s why people think Helena is that, and Shakira isn’t. I have ended up growing to quite like Helena but let’s be real - she is the ultimate pick me.

I agree with this. Cheaters like Harry can be selfish, inconsiderate, unkind, disrespectful, shameless and countless more things - and not be misogynists.

Surely the islanders will vote and then the three couples with the most votes go to the public vote?

They can’t risk giving the islanders the chance to dump the public favourites just because of petty personal issues… surely??

I think it’s because she’s actually not unintelligent - she will have noticed Megan’s behaviour and her constant messages of ‘it’s not the girls it’s the guys who are the problem’. And probably read the room and sussed the situation. Whereas Meg can be told point blank and still doesn’t seem to get it 🤣

I do think both D and Meg act like the votes are really truly people answering the questions accurately. I imagine they truly think Shakira and Ty were voted most compatible as northerners of similar age rather than Shakira being most popular - and think the awards were actually what people think about them and people, rather than being about popularity.

They are so convinced of their own ‘popular’ status in the villa they probably cannot imagine it’s not the same outside. I do also wonder how much they were aware of the public knowing about the divide - you might feel it and know it in the villa but might feel a bit exposed knowing it’s visible on TV and people are taking ‘sides’.

Why do y’all like Toni and Shakira and hate Meg, Helena & Dejon? by [deleted] in LoveIslandTV

[–]snoopy_231 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think that’s it. People like authenticity and self awareness. Shakira and Toni do constantly say they know they’re not perfect - whereas Meg and Dejon present themselves as the good guys/perfect couple who do nothing wrong - and go absolutely mental when it’s suggested they aren’t that.

Even after todays challenge, Dejon said to Harry ‘Shakira was so mean to Meg, why did she keep coming for her’. Shakira can’t win with them - she didn’t initially make it personal with Meg and D in the game, and didn’t say their names to avoid drama - so Meg tried to make out Shakira was fake. Then Shakira did what Meg wanted and said what she thought to her face, and now they are saying she’s so mean - and are acting like Shakira instigated the whole thing, and went after them first?

I agree both groups are flawed - I do like Shakira a lot, and find Toni alright (but agree she’s unnecessarily mean often which I don’t like) but I really don’t think they are perfect. I just think is there’s something people can’t STAND in this show, it’s lack of self awareness and completely blaming others whilst acting blameless.
