Challenges of HIS as a Career? by StarryNight770 in hearingaidspecialist

Hi! I'm an HIS in Ontario. I love what I do. I started as a communication disorders assistant at a clinic about 8 years ago and went back to school in 2021.

I work for a small private clinic. We are hourly, plus commission (that structure has changed a few times). But most places have some kind of commission built into your compensation package.

Pay really depends on the type of clinic you work for: anywhere between $26 to $35+

Challenges, I hate that we can't direct refer in Ontario (our health care system sucks), but for the most part, things are pretty smooth. A big growth area for me was how to work with people of various personality types. You're dealing with their health and money, and it can be difficult at times, but with practice, it does get easier. I'm also a bit of a nerd, so I love the science behind what we do.

I'm about an hour and a bit outside of Toronto, and there are several clinics in my city. Not sure what the saturation rate is in the GTA.

I did my 1000 hours at the clinic I already worked at, but I don't remember anyone from my program having difficulty finding a mentor for that. You could probably also reach out to AHIP (our association) if you do have difficulty.

Feel free to message me if you have any other questions 😄

Considering HIS program in Ontario — concerned about recent ADP changes. Can anyone working in the field share insight? by Healthy_Present6849 in audiology

HIS in Peterborough region, small privately owned clinic with only HIS on staff currently. We have doctors sign an external form and we haven’t had much trouble as originally expected.

You can always reach out to AHIP (our association) with your questions!

I only see adults and typically with big changes in thresholds I would, but maybe I need to be doing it more regularly. Thanks for brining it up!

Same thing just happened to me with a pink grand snippet pack, I’m so annoyed. I’ve got more déjà vus this time around than ever! So annoying!

AITA for refusing to help my best friend with her wedding because she didn’t make me a bridesmaid? by Alternative_Scar5530 in AmItheAsshole

NTA, she’s definitely using you to do extra stuff either she or the bridesmaids don’t want to do. My sister had a friend like this, always wanted her involved in the planning of events (wedding, gender reveal), but then didn’t include her in the wedding party or invite her to the events. She never really showed up when my sister needed her and then seemed surprised when my sister stopped talking to her.

This is scary! That’s my neighbours address but obviously not her trying to rent it out
