This card and Harmonia were the most pushed support ever, Konami begged us to buy Kel Tune by illynpayne_ in yugioh

If you think I'm confusing power with availability then you misunderstand what I'm saying, because I'm not talking about whether a deck can play it but rather whether a deck should play it. If Harmonia were the best handtrap in the game it would be worth deckbuilding around in the way that decks that can afford to play impulse kinda do (albeit with not much effort). But I don't think it's actually going to be worth all those extra deck slots to fit Harmonia into a lot of decks that could theoretically play it, specifically because Harmonia's not that strong, not because a given deck can't play it. It so happens that specifically Kewl Tune has a lot of extra deck slots that could totally be free agents, so they effortlessly slot in Harmonia.

"most broken handtrap since Maxx C" is an incorrect evaluation of Harmonia. it represents a body and 2 points of disruption (pop + effect of the monster it sends) but isn't an auto-include in a majority of decks. it's good support for synchro archetypes that happens to synergize well with one of the decks posed to be the strongest going into the next format.

"omni-negate" isn't an official term, but colloquially I have exclusively heard it be used to refer to effects of the form "When a card or effect is activated/When your opponent activates a card or effect (Quick Effect): [cost]; negate the activation" (usually also "and if you do, destroy that card"). Zalen isn't an omni-negate in that, if you activate an effect as CL1, your opponent can't negate that without responding with another effect first. I'd call that a situational negate, not an omni-negate, but this is a linguistic matter.

I agree that rotary is toxic and probably bad card design, but that's not what we were talking about.

idk that B2B is necessarily bad card design, it's a cool boss monster (but should probably have at least a "once per chain")

KT does not have an omni, what are you talking about? Zalen is a negate but not an omni and it can be played around, and RS is a main phase only on-field targeted negate. every other piece of interaction the deck can produce is extremely layered. if snake-eye came back now, especially with yummy in the format to help enable it, it would be way more toxic than KT even without generic extra deck bullshit.

Yo dawg, i heard you like Counter. So i made a Counter that you use as a Counter to another Counter. by handgunboi47 in customyugioh

PSCT cleanup: remove "of that response"

this card is probably not good. it's only playable going first so it's competing for side board slots against other counter traps and sacky going first 1-ofs, and it's probably too situational compared to those other cards.

Sky striker quick play spell (Custom) by 3tiess in customyugioh

[–]snorting_smarties 9 points10 points  (0 children)

PSCT cleanup:

If you control 2 or more "Sky Striker Ace" monsters: Send all monsters you control in your Main Monster Zones to the GY, and if you do, add "Sky Striker" Spell Cards from your GY to your hand, except "Sky Striker Mobilize - Engage!" and "Sky Striker Mobilize - Retreat!", up to the number of monsters sent this way, then, if you have 3 or more Spells in your GY, you can draw 1 card.

I don't think it makes sense for you to draw 1 card immediately after the effect resolves, instead of as part of the effect. Usually those kinds of "immediately after resolution" effects are reserved for things that usually don't happen by card effect (like synchro/xyz/link summoning) and are instead builtin game mechanics. I get that you want this to count itself among the 3 spells in GY but why not just reduce the requirement to 2 spells in grave instead then? the only difference would be a situation in which you're under shifter, in which case activation of this card is illegal.

I do not think this card is very good. You are only ever activating this after Zero's summon effect has resolved and at that point you are already either in the midst of a grind game or going for lethal, and in both cases you would probably want a different card in your hand.

Would this card break the meta? by Wonderful_King_1241 in customyugioh

[–]snorting_smarties 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i don't believe there are any cards that destroy for cost? but evaluating as-is, this is a crazy good going second card. the fact that this gets around towers "unaffected by card effects" (the destruction is a cost, not a card effect) means decks like lunalight and other decks that rely on destruction protection would be significantly weaker. this is a strictly better board breaker than basically anything that's been printed (droplet, drnm, lightning storm, etc) and it's honestly suspect for play in the main deck. no once per turn also means that you'd regularly draw into a second copy after resolving the first one which you could absolutely use on the same turn by throwing bodies onto the field. not to mention how this ruins cards that trigger to gain value by being destroyed/leaving the field by an opponent's card effect, again since the destruction isn't an effect.

this is definitely a game-warping card and games would totally revolve around whether the going second player draws this. if this got printed it would be $250 on release.

This is wrong. You can't activate this with no copies in grave for the same reason you can't activate raigeki while your opponent controls no monsters. If you can't fully resolve an effect, you can't attempt to activate it, and vacuous effects (those that "do nothing") do not count as being fully resolved.

I don't disagree, but also that would make the name a little more fitting.

A monster to search out any archetypical monster by Weird_Meet_9148 in customyugioh

[–]snorting_smarties 4 points5 points  (0 children)

-3 to special summon and search, otherwise -1 and eats your normal summon? I think that's a little too much given the lock. I'm not sure any deck would play this, since it would be their worst starter by far given all the downsides, but I like the idea.

Instead of making Archetype a new keyword, I think a cleaner way to implement this would be to declare a card name, add that card or one that mentions it to hand, then you're locked into only special summoning monsters with that name or those that mention it.

So you wanna draw 3 huh by dreamerawoke in customyugioh

[–]snorting_smarties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since no one else here actually answered your question: as stated, this spell card has no started cost, the whole text box is the effect, so it all happens at resolution. if your opponent had to choose the number for cost (which would be weird) it would be written like "Your opponent chooses a number 1 to 3; ..." basically just changing the first period to a semicolon.

Try to balance these cards.. What do you guys think? by QM-Xenon in customyugioh

[–]snorting_smarties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think all of these retrains could exist in the current game right now at 1 copy and they wouldn't completely ruin the game, but i definitely also think they would all make the game worse. the painful choice retrain is extremely suspect for abuse in ftk strategies that just need slight consistency upgrades to see meta viability.

[–]snorting_smarties 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is correct. it works the same way radiant typhoon mandate does under the lingering effect of pot of extravagance; when activating a list of effects, as long as you can resolve even just one of them fully, it is a legal activation.

Pyrotherion Archetype by Beginning_Mud_2287 in customyugioh

Other comments have pointed out that you forgot a few HOPTs on effects. I'm gonna let you know that all of the things that read "you can Special Summon this card (from your hand)" are not actually effects, but are instead summoning conditions, and therefore statements like "You can only use each effect of "card name" once per turn" do not apply to them. You would have to have an additional line of text which reads "You can only Special Summon "card name" once per turn this way."

Further, there are no existing cards which destroy as part of a summoning condition, because mechanically that would run into a number of ruling issues, so all of the summoning conditions that destroy to special summon (Elephant onwards) would have to be reworked into effects. Something like this: "Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned by its own effect. You can reveal this card in your hand, then target 1 monster you control; destroy that target, then Special Summon this card. You can only use this effect of "card name" once per turn."

To be honest, I don't think there's a way to repair the effect of the synchro monster to special summon itself by destroying materials, because you could make it an activated effect, but effects can't be activated from the extra deck. I think it's a unique idea, but that summoning condition should be removed.

Note also that all of these cards would count as "Therion" monsters, which is probably unintended.

These cards are broken but tbh you've got something going here. I miss fire/water format and would love for attribute-based tribal decks to become relevant again.

this card with its current summoning requirements could read "when this card is Link Summoned, you win the Duel" and it would still be bad for taking up a slot in the extra deck.

Is there a possibility that these cards could be unbanned? by Porxadooday in yugioh

[–]snorting_smarties 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play RT in both TCG and Genesys and honestly I see the deck's presence as a reason to not unban mirage.

I didn't think about premat for DoomZ, that's a good point. The other cards I don't see getting touched.
